You're making your own luck. Great results, great goal. Cheering for you!!!

That's the number my doc told me is controlled by diet. It's likely "your doctor isn't worried..." is office staff-speak for "Statistically you don't fall into a risk group that would benefit from counseling and/or medication." That doesn't prevent you from scheduling another appointment to discuss the test results with…

In defense of your doc and NP, if they're under the age of 50, their medical education (either initially or through continuing ed) included science-based nutrition. However, in their practices, they've likely seen 95% of overweight patients 1. never try to lose weight 2. try and give up or 3. try something woo-ish and…

Congratulations on the good numbers. I got similar results on CICO; i.e. reduced my A1C to normal range and down from 2 pills to 1 pill each for high blood pressure, cholesterol, and GERD after the first 10 pounds. Hoping for zero meds after the next 40.

After a loss of 27 pounds. my doc asked how I did it. When I said "Tracking on My Fitness Pal", he replied, "Yeah, tracking is the only thing that works long term." Then I got cocky, stopped tracking and gained 17 pounds. Back here for the 3rd time and for life.

Is the live blood testing lab still there? I went as a joke several years ago and saw great video of my "white blood cells eating fat" in a drop of blood. Before the test, the spiel was that if my whites were low, I would need their kidney/liver cleanse. After the test, my white blood cell count was good but the cells were…

My local Kroger sells Magic Pops http://www.deliceglobal.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=76&Itemid=150 They give you the crunch and not many calories. Four of the deli size and a Laughing Cow light wedge is under 100 calories. There's a chocolate drizzled version for 40 calories each.

Daily weighing and charting will help you discover your body's pattern. My weight jumps around 2-3 pounds with a whoosh every 10 days. When I weighed only once a week, I'd see random losses and gains, then stress myself out for the next seven days. Daily, weekly, monthly--you get to decide based on your body and your brain.

If you're in a challenge, you may be comparing yourself to others who have more to lose. If they were eating poorly as well, they may have lost lots of water weight that first week and that's discouraging to you. That's all you're doing wrong, comparing your loss to others. In 6 months, those others will look at you and…

Threw away the Trader Joe's sunflower seeds that my dear niece gave me. I woke up this morning with a headache after dreaming about pouring them directly into my mouth and realized they're a temptation I can't resist. Yet.

If you're seeing a counselor for the anxiety and depression, ask his/her opinion of cognitive behavioral therapy. It's the basis of the Beck Diet Solution, which has lots of posts and a group on MFP.

3. How even though I don't see a whole lot of change yet, I can vividly see my success. And how much that actually means (if anyone would have told me at the beginning I'd spend 6 months barely loosing 18 lbs and still not look a whole lot different, I may not have even done this! Now I say, BRING IT!) This is exactly what…

Republic of Tea has several no or low caffeine chocolate teas, zero calories.

Rare and appropriate, I'm going to use that. The word "cheat" is just too negative for me. But rare and appropriate are special days to be planned and appreciated.

And how to deal with lapses. Lots of great information and mental exercises.

Beck also has a Facebook page with daily thought exercises and several Youtube videos. Very helpful.

Thanks for this idea. I used fresh marinara, fresh tomatoes, turkey pepperoni and low-fat cheese. It made a lovely lunch, larger and few calories than the low-calorie frozen pizzas. The bread makes a crust similar to PH thin crust, but tastier.

Another one I like is "What would you do if you knew you couldn't fail." I know tracking and exercise work for me, so I stopped trying to argue myself out of doing it.

Republic of Tea has some caffeine free chocolate teas, good hot or iced, that help with the evening cravings.

For me it's more about not letting the weekly weigh-in confuse and scare me. One problem with weekly weigh-ins, and this has been stated repeatedly, is that weekly weigh-ins will only by coincidence be representative for your current "real" weight. You could be 2 pounds heavier or lighter the next day. No single day is…

Weight Watchers recipe vanilla mug cake with Cool Whip and strawberries. 100 calories if you pile on the CW! It's not mean to steer someone away from bad nutritional advice. If your body can't detox on its own, you should be in a hospital.

Some people may not comment on a weight loss from concern it could be from a serious health problem.

HuHot was always a favorite restaurant for a plateful of relatively healthy food--lots of veg, some noodles, a little chicken and sausage, sprinkle of peanuts, side of rice, hot sauce. I decided to treat myself today and filled the usual two bowls for my usual heaping plateful. After eating a third, I was full. A month…

The online community here is much more supportive than on WW. Beware, though, if you post woo nonsense, you'll get called out without mercy!

I made cookies for a family party and, for the first time ever, matched the recipe's yield number. In other words, I didn't eat half the dough!

The next time you're at the grocery store, pick up a 28 lb bag of dog food and ask yourself if you'd like to be carrying that around again. Or imagine 112 sticks of butter and pretend you have to put every stick inside your shirt. A 28 pound loss is amazing and, even if you can't see the difference, you are healthier than…

A chiropractor pushed on my back so hard he ruptured muscles in my upper abdomen and I had to have a metal mesh patch surgically tacked over the tear. The same chiropractor swore I needed $100 shoe inserts even though I had no foot or leg pain because "Your feet will start to hurt someday." Oh, and he tested my saliva with…
