@Scolaris, this is a great discussion! I hadn't done the math either, but now that I have, I feel great! I have lost 31.2lb over about 30 weeks, for 1.04lb per week. I had higher losses at the beginning when I was still nursing my baby, but I also had about 5 weeks of maintenance in there due to travel and holidays. Not…

+1 to this. While MFP sets my calories to 1590/day (5'6", 170lb) to lose 1lb/week, my activity level usually allows me extra calories every day. So, I aim for the 500 calorie deficit as well. Totally in the camp of exercising so I can eat more :)

I've got two kids about the same age, though I am back to work now and the kids are in day care. My starting point was a little lower than you (205), but sounds like we're in a pretty similar situation  Feel free to add me as a friend! My number one recommendation, if you are really serious about losing weight, is…

Your idea of money in the bank for every day you resist is a good one. I also liked the suggestion about banking calories. Have a lower calorie breakfast/dinner planned, and get in some good workouts on the weekend. Then you can indulge a little more during the week when the snacks are out. Also, try prelogging your meals…

Good for you! When you hit a plateau, or eat more than your goal, hang on to that feeling! There are times when you'll feel like nothing is working, and you're not making any progress, but you are. It's just not linear. I find that's one of the things I struggle with a lot - I feel like I'm making a big effort but getting…

I think I saw it mentioned above, but apples are super for fibre. A decent sized apple with the skin on (150g not including the core) can have 4-5g of fibre in it! I try to eat an apple every day - Honeycrisp and Jazz varieties are delicious, if you can find them

I'll second this one... tons of great workouts, and nifty little things like boxes to check off as you complete sets, break timers, videos showing how to do each move, etc.

I will take a stab at how much oil was in my serving of whatever I cooked. So, if I pan fry fish, and I put oil in the pan, and eat 1/5 of the fish, then I'll enter 1/5 of the total oil measurement. It's not super accurate, but it works for my purposes. I usually try to be short of my calorie goal by 50-100 calories per…

While I was exclusively breastfeeding, I added 500 calories per day (little girl was hungry!). Once she was decently established on solids (around 7 months), I dropped back to 300 calories per day. I kept an eye on my milk supply, but I never had a problem with supply when I was reducing my calories. You might have to be a…

Turkey burgers! Yum  They're known as "birdgers" in our house...lol

You can make a really great soft taco (ground beef in whole wheat tortilla, salsa, sour cream, and lettuce) for around 400 calories, depending on how much meat you add. Serve veggies or salad on the side, and you're set.

We've got you beat here in the frozen wasteland that is Winnipeg... pretty sure they were reporting windchills in the -30s this morning. I think I froze a little patch on my palm when I touched the gear shift in my car this morning :o I'm from northwestern Ontario originally, though I think that's fairly interchangeable…

If I have time to watch tv, I have been stepping onto and off of my Wii balance board. You can get a lot of steps in through the course of an hour show

I found it was a difficult adjustment when my daughter stopped breastfeeding - losing the equivalent of an extra snack each day in calories was a shock! And I'm finding it difficult to get back into calorie restriction mode after taking a break over the holidays. But I keep thinking about how I'm only partway to my goal,…

Yup, me too.

OP, if you love walking, don't let what anyone says stop you from doing it! Cardio is not a pointless exercise. Any exercise that burns some calories and allows me to eat a little more and stay at my deficit goal is good by my books :)

I was able to access it by clicking on it on a friend's post, but I can't see the Challenges tab at all on the Android app. Apparently, challenges are only for US users (probably to do with the prize rules), so I wonder if they disable the Challenges menu tab for those of us outside the States?

You can do it! There's lots of great advice here. One thing I do to get my step count up when I'm at home is to be as inefficient as possible when I'm moving around the house. So, for example, if I'm putting laundry away, I will only carry a few items at a time, so that I have to make multiple trips up and down the stairs…

My food from MFP is showing up on Fitbit, but my steps and activities aren't showing up in MFP. Oh well... an exercise in patience, I guess :)

Tiny bit is quite a lot for such a short time. You will get there. Don't be so hard on yourself Hun
7 weeks is a short time?
I have been using MFP since June. I don't think noticed a big difference in how things fit, or how I looked, for at least 3 months. So, for me, 7 weeks would have been a short time :)…

I'm going to visit my parents for Christmas for a week. I have decided that I'm going to take the week off of logging (I have been doing so daily since early August), and see how things go. I'm hoping to maintain for the week, and I really want to see if I am able to do this "naturally," or if I'm going to need to continue…

While I track my calories daily, I aim to be under/at my goal for the week, not every single day. It allows me to deal with those days that I go over without feeling so much guilt about it, but still be on track overall. As well, I try not to deny myself the things I love to eat. While I do talk myself out of that piece of…

I always have a slice of toast with my eggs... the fibre/protein combo is what fills me up!

Well, there are two ways to go about this. I did what above poster mentioned - I set MFP to a 1.5lb/week loss, then used the food diary to add calories back in. I used 500/day when my daughter was nursing exclusively, bumped it back to 300 when she started solids, dropped it to 200 as she dropped to nursing twice per day,…

I am 5'6" and am just under 170lb. I have MFP set to lose 1lb/week, and I'm finding it pretty easy to stick with my calories and not feel hungry all of the time, or deprived. 1.5lb/week would probably be manageable, but I like to eat  Slow and steady has been easy for me, and it really makes me wonder why I spent…

I've lost 30lb so far, after two pregnancies. I'm still hanging on to the "pouch," but it's definitely getting smaller. Keep working at it, and you should see the reduction too! I keep feeling like this is taking forever, but then I remind myself that 6 months ago, I weighed 30lb more. You can do it! Good luck!
-
Lol... I'm going file that one away for future use!

I aimed to eat a minimum of 1800 calories per day. When my daughter was nursing exclusively, I added 500 calories per day extra. Once she started solids and scaled back with nursing, I bumped that down to 300, then 200 calories. Now, she nurses once a day (at 14 months), and I don't eat back any extra calories. I have…

Stress on the body can delay ovulation, which in turn will delay when your period starts. It could be that IF was stressful enough to dot that. I would highly recommend looking at "Taking Charge of your Fertility" by Toni Weschler if you are interested in the details. I don't bother counting my full cycle length any more -…

This is me. I have noticed the increase around ovulation as well. Took me a few cycles to clue into why I was seeing a mid cycle gain. I am happy to see that I am not the only one! Invariably, it happens on a weigh-in day too :P
