  • Inspirational! I would love to be down that much in 90 days. Nice work!
  • Interesting that the story says that "Those with the trackers lost about 50 percent less weight than those without." Also shocking to see this: "The least accurate, PulseOn, was off by an average of 93 percent. The most accurate device, Fitbit Surge, was off by an average of 27 percent, the Guardian reported." I don't use…
  • Check the quality of the foods you're eating to get 1200 calories. Two big macs vs. loads of fruits, veggies, and beans, can make a big difference in how you feel.
  • * Adopt a weekend warrior attitude. * Walk or ride a bike wherever you need to go. * Exercise on your lunch break * Exercise with your partner when you're at home * Diminish the house work to "maintenance" mode (ie. no projects) * Streamline your life in other was: * - buy multiple shirts/pants of the same type that you…
  • Positive self talk can also help with this. Create mantras that you repeat to yourself every day or even a positivity journal that focuses on identifying the good things you like about your body. Research has shown these kinds of activities can reshape personal self image over time.
  • +1 to this -- among all of the weight loss transformations that I've looked at online, those where the person has clearly put on a lot of muscle are the most transformative. I also think that if it is lose skin you're worried about, keep in mind that skin takes a lot longer to shrink. Also, ignore unrealistic sources of…
  • Time to try a new sport! Try something like biking or swimming. Take a spin class or swim class. Maybe rock climbing or running. Expand your horizons. Keep going! :)
  • Just ignore it or say "I don't want to share my weight."
  • I had two significant losses earlier this year too. It's been a process for me and only four months later have I had felt some return to normality. I found several articles on this website useful: http://psychcentral.com/resources/Grief_and_Loss/
  • I'm not sure I've got the cool part, but I do use MFP -- does that automatically make me cool? If so, feel free to add me. I've been logging my food and exercise daily.
  • Hey -- isn't there a book about that? Something like, "The 20 Percent"? As I've gotten more responsibilities in work, the only thing I can do (because I can't do more) is to be more efficient and simplify my life. Still... work is a major excuse for me (ie. I need to get x project done tonight, so I can't workout).
  • Has joining MFP been a way to create a new group of people you can identify with?
  • Breaking up with someone is a major life change, akin to a death in the family. I wouldn't be surprised if the 5-stages of grief would apply to breakups too... not to mention a change in personal identity (ie. the "I" instead of "we"). I agree... the community aspect of MFP is a great outlet :)
  • Yep. I've got the "too busy" excuse too. It's also very easy to start prioritizing other peoples' lives ahead of our own lives, especially when it comes to people we care for (ie. children and significant others).
  • Interesting point. I would like to suggest an alternative here. I think anxiety should not be viewed as an excuse. Although society likes to label things like depression and anxiety as excuses, I'd rather not. For this thread, an excuse is defined as a "false reason" for not achieving our weight/workout/lifestyle goals.
  • Hello 30-somethings! My name is Sydney and live with my other half and our four kitties. I have a job that is productivity based, so it's very easy to start putting work first and my health on the back burner. I've lived in five U.S. states in my life and currently reside in Nebraska. I'm passionate about bike commuting…
  • Inspirational! Nice work!
  • Depauperating the gut of bacteria can predispose it to colonization by non-beneficial microbes. The recommendation to consume yogurt and other foods with microbes is simply to aid recovery of a balanced, healthy community within the gut. Recent studies show the gut microflora responds very quickly to what we eat. I am…
