  • Thanks. I was thinking of a Garmin Forerunner since I mostly run for my exercise. I’ll look into the Fenix.
  • I get an appetite that won’t stop when I eat carbs- baked good, cereal....that sort of food. If I can restrict that intake for about ten days, I lose that need to eat. I go for a walk if I feel I want to eat or drink a big glass of ice water with lime or lemon. I’m really not hungry...it’s just the need to eat.
  • I began my weight loss journey July of 2015, over 15 months I lost almost 60 pounds. Then I was was in maintenance for about a year, but at too low a weight I now realize. I had low energy and had to struggle to run as much as I wanted because I just ran out of energy. Over this past winter, I readjusted my eating habits,…
  • Bai drinks. Tea with lemon. Coffee, of course.
  • Yes you can lose, but in my case, I became skinny fat..... everyth8g was so jiggly. Running and some weights helped. Do you have a Wii? You could do that with the kids!
  • I had to measure and log my calories. I’ve been doing that religiously for 2.5 years and have maintained a loss of between 55 and 60 pounds for almost two years. It’s the only method that works for me. But I’m not a dietician. Just a former fat person. You might be just at a plateau, your body adjusting. Be patient though.…
  • Just purchased three pints today. I should have checked this thread first. I would have looked for Oatmeal cookie. In my freezer sits Red Velvet, Birthday Cake and Cinnamon Roll. It was soooo hard to choose. I wanted the Salted Caramel... well dang it, I wanted to try them all! Sadly, I had extra Couscous for dinner and…
  • Good point. But wondering why when I inadvertently add 6 pounds to my weight, my tummy bubbles over the waistband of my running capris and feels horrid...
  • I walk at least half an hour every day. It clears my head.
  • I use Apple Music and have a couple playlists for my iPod, depending on my pace and distance for that day. I like the upbeat tempo and mindlessness of the music.... The runs are often over before I get bored....
  • SweetPea. I mean this with kindness, but I’m not sure losing 15 pounds is going to make you any happier... just how I see it...... :/
  • Yes. Your waist is trimmer.
  • You can do this! I’m 61. Weighed 206 in July 2015. Have maintained almost two years at 150. Add me if you’d like. I’m a religious MFP’er!
  • Maybe 130 isn’t your goal weight? As posters above said, try a range and focus more on your shape and not the numbers..... easier said than done. But something to think about. :)
  • I stick with extra fresh veg. Have sweet potatoes but avoid the mashed white. Only a tablespoon of gravy. No dressing, but yes to cranberry sauce. No skin, but extra turkey breast. Sadly no wing for me! I bring a dessert. Pumpkin lasagna, made with low cal ingredients. A couple spoonfuls is enough. But yes, it’s just one…
  • I’ve got big thighs. I’m the thinnest I’ve been in my adult life and I still have big thighs. I think they are genetic. Weight loss occurs over the entire body. If my thighs were as thin as I’d like, I’d be too bony elsewhere.... Walking/running and squats help firm them though.

  • Beginning running at age 60. I ran my first 5 k in March and came 2n$ in my age group with a PB. I’m running again -4 miles - in a couple weeks when I get back to AZ for the winter... really looking forward to the challenge!
  • Now I do piles of cardio so I can eat more. But I first lost by just restricting my intake, and added cardio and weights once I got a good loss started. Someone suggested I do cardio first, fairly intensely and then weights, so the burn continues more. I dunno. But that’s what I do......
  • Michelle, you did! I’m thinking 5 k is good for me at the moment but 10 or 15 could be possible. When I winter in AZ I’m super busy with a variety of activities and when I’m home for the summer, I dislike outdoor running b/c of black bears and bugs.
  • You finished! That’s super! I ran my first 5 k in March. Signed up now for a 4 mile the end of the month and a 5 k in December. Yes. We’ve got the racing bug!
  • I changed the way I ate, by eating ONLY foods I liked that fit my budget of calories. I had to give up breads because they are my trigger food and make me more hungry, but that was only a personal choice. I learned how to leave my plate when I felt full, rather when than the plate empty. That drives my husband crazy now,…
  • If you’d like, please add me..... we can ‘run’ together!
  • I too like to call myself a runner. But one who just discovered she COULD run! Might I dare to say, you might change your challenge to 500 miles, instead of 1000?If you’re super busy and, despite loving to run, can’t find the time, maybe you should modify that goal... nothing destroys motivation quicker for me than a goal…
  • I find age didn’t affect my weight loss. Mostly it was my commitment. I look better at 61 than I have since my early 20’s.
  • Ignore the weight forecast. But I think the rest is fine.... at least I maintained health and lost weight using MFP.....
  • You will feel fuller longer if you consume sufficient lean protein. But I think monitoring your calories is a great start.
  • It may sound weird, but I actually feel better now when I go to bed somewhat hungry. Back in my overeating days, I had to be full to feel good. After maintaining now for going on to two years, I sleep better and feel better in general when I’m not stuffed with food. I’ve also a love-hate relationship with baked goods.... I…
  • I started running last October at the age of 60. A friend of mine who is a Master Marathoner helps me with encouragement and tips. She said to run as far as I could and walk if I had to. So that’s how I started. Now I can run without walking. I never imagined I would be able to do that....find a pace and just go. It’s…
  • Could be water weight? Don’t stress...... :)
