Take your power back from your scale, then. If you know you've been on target with your plan, then you know you haven't gained weight. Acknowledge that responding emotionally to the number on the scale isn't helping you to stick to your plan and achieve your goals - your daily weight can fluctuate due to factors other than…

It is a matter of individual preference. I find it plausible that some individuals do better with eating breakfast while others are more successful when skipping breakfast. Breakfast seems to be one of those meals that I eat because it is part of my daily routine. When I skip it, I don't seem to suffer any ill effects. But…

You could gain a pound of fat by eating around 3,500 calories over your maintenance level. If you haven't done that, than it is unlikely that you've actually gained a pound of fat. Keep in mind that your scale does not measure only your fat level. It measures everything, including whatever fluid you happen to be carrying…

No, it is not low carb. The cheese sauce is made primarily of mashed beans, potatoes, and nooch. My daughter eats this, but I call it macaroni with bean sauce, because she finds it disappointing if it is referred to as macaroni and cheese. It is a vegan dish that I think captures the essence of traditional macaroni and…

Team Daryl (Eugene) Personal goals: 7 pts. Challenge #1: 1 pt. Challenge #2: 2 pts. (I think. I didn't do a workout with combat, but did climb 50 flights of stairs. I think the ability to climb lots of stairs at a fast pace could come in handy during the zombie apocalypse though, right? Plus, I really really wanted that…

Challenge #1: The Beet Challenge I thought I posted already, but I guess I am losing it. I add vegetables to anything that I can in order to increase the volume. I like to eat a lot of food, so, for instance, if I make my fake out macaroni and cheese, I add onions, shredded carrots, and zucchini. That way I can eat a big…

Some people really do seem to lose weight effortlessly on a low carb diet. My husband is one of them. I think it works for him because it seems to significantly reduce his appetite for some reason, so he is satisfied eating tiny portions, which results in the consumption of fewer calories. Reducing my carb intake does…

One common dietary cause of heart palpitations is caffeine. Caffeine is a common ingredient in supplements that claim to boost metabolism, increase energy, or increase metabolism. If you've started drinking energy drinks, diet soda, or protein bars that claim to boost your energy or metabolism, check those for their…

If you worry about the feelings of the person who made the treat, really stop to consider that. How disappointed is that person likely to be if you do not eat the treats? How will that disappointment compare to the other disappointments in that person's life? How long is that person likely to experience that feeling of…

Here are a few of my favorite lunches/dinners. I often tweak ingredients to make recipes fit my needs - sneaking in extra vegetables wherever possible and eliminating or substituting ingredients to meet my preferences. So all of these recipes are starting points. You can browse around the different sites that these recipes…

For me, the issue is one of power/control. If I start labeling food as good, bad, healthy, unhealthy, etc., I am giving the food power that it shouldn't have. I prefer to give myself that power/control. So it isn't about placing a value judgment on the food. Instead, I apply that value judgment to my choice whether or not…

Protein fluff. I mix a scoop of chocolate casein protein powder with 3/4 c. of unsweetened almond milk. I beat it on high for about 10 minutes, then pop it in the freezer for 15 minutes. It makes a big bowl of cool creamy chocolatey fluff. It is a lot to eat and keeps me full for a few hours.

I've always been great at losing weight. I don't know how many times I've reached my goal weight. It is the maintaining weight that was difficult for me. Realizing that my perfectionism, which I had been struggling against since I was a child, was leading me to embrace cognitive distortions was huge for me. Once I was able…

How recent is the knee stiffness? If home treatment and (I assume) rest weren't helping, I would schedule a visit with my doctor to make sure there isn't something medically wrong. Exactly what are you concerned with when it comes to the eggs? Are you just looking for variety, or do you have a specific concern regarding…

My weekends are the same as the rest of the week. I am not dieting and taking the weekends off - this is the way I live every day. YMMV.
-
It is good that you've identified the cause and the effect. Working on the weekends causes you to be stressed out and you respond by overeating to deal with the stress. While that coping strategy worked for you in the past, it does not work for you any longer. What are your options? 1. Eliminate the cause 2. Eliminate the…

When it comes to weight loss, the only thing that matters is your caloric deficit. Splitting hairs over details only serves to distract from that principle. It is irrelevant to an individual's weight loss if they perceive that they are eating at a 500 calorie deficit and doing cardio so that they can eat an additional 250…

While I am not Vegan (for example, I just purchased a vehicle with leather seats), I do prefer to eat a plant-based diet. You definitely can lose weight taking animal products out of your diet as long as you make sure you have a calorie deficit. There are many plant-based diets recommended by various doctors (Pritikin,…

1. While cutting out junk and empty calories is beneficial to your health, it isn't going to automatically result in weight loss. As others have pointed out, the only factor that causes weight loss is eating at a caloric deficit. If weight loss was your only goal, it wouldn't matter what calories you consumed - a professor…

I have been blown away very recently by Mason jar salads. They *really* do stay fresh for several days as long as you layer your ingredients properly. I'm guessing it is because you really pack the salad greens tightly at the top, so that prevents air from getting in. And I love that they are already prepped and waiting…

Bonus Point Challenge #1 - All Players Abraham's A'ha Moment I lost over 80 pounds about 5 years ago. Maintaining the loss was a huge accomplishment as I'd been a yo-yo dieter for many years. This fall I had some difficulties with my breathing that made exercising difficult. Exercise has always been an important component…

Is he bringing home the ice cream, candy, chips, fast food, etc. because that is how your relationship has always been, or is he bringing it home to prove his point that you can eat those things and still lose weight because that is what he does? If it is the latter, I can see how that would be really annoying, especially…

Team Daryl I met my food logging and exercise goals this week and completed bonus challenges 1 and 3. 9 points

This sounds more like you are on a diet focused on obtaining weight loss results rather than making a lifestyle change. Why are you getting up at 7 am and walking to the gym? Why are you logging all of your food? Is the number on the scale your only measure of success? What is the difference between going on a diet and…

Bonus Point Challenge #1 Orange Crush, Kit Kats and Mints. Tell your team your strategy for eating healthier. This week I made Mason Jar Greek Salads for work. I don't typically bring salads to work, as it takes time to prep. However, the Mason jar salads were amazing. I prepped them all at once and they stayed fresh until…

This week I made Mason jar salads for work. They were easy to make and have held up surprisingly well over the week. The order in which you layer the ingredients is crucial. There are plenty of great recipes available online and they are easy to tweak to fit your eating plan. Do you have access to electricity at work?…

Your post reminded me of one of my favorite songs about self-acceptance, I'm Good by The Mowgli's. Listen for the lyric, "No, I won't give up. I won't give in." I'm not sure of your taste in music, but this song should have pretty broad appeal and I just love its message. https://youtube.com/watch?v=kx8hmQX8Q30

Well, I logged all of my food daily (3.5 points) but only exercised 2 out of 4 times due to illness (sinus infection and breathing issues). I did earn one challenge point. Can we call that a 5 for the week? Sorry, team Daryl, hopefully my breathing will improve and I'll do better next week!

I'm guessing your phone isn't very accurate. I got 1K steps yesterday. I am sick with a sinus infection and having issues with my breathing. I slept most of the day. My steps were necessities only (bathroom, medicine, letting dogs out, washing out nebulizer tubing, water). I was actively trying not to move more than…
