I agree. And having a parent pile food is a recipe to encourage secret eating.

I think that parental behavior is important AND kids (just like adults) are different. I used to be fairly smug about how we handled eating with young children (you have to try everything once each time it is served -but don't have to have more if you don't want more). Worked like a charm with my oldest -didn't work so…

Don't lock the thread! It's a great discussion on how to help our kids!!

Cool!

After binngeing on Mon night, and having some challenges Tuesday afternoon, I went for a short run and walk to re-focus myself and managed to end the day within my calories!

I woosh 3-6 pounds and then go up and down by a pound or two for 3-5 weeks and then I woosh again. The woosh is nice (even though I know it's not all weight loss) and the gaining a pound isn't nice (even though I know I haven’t really gained weight)

Wow! Congrats!

All of my old "small" clothes set aside over the last 15-16 years including some pants never worn now fit me! Now I have to decided if I'll stop here or go further (and then have to buy new clothes!)

Great!

@tomteboda you rock! I love your attitude! You really are super awesome! I have a good friend who has never once commented on any weight loss (or gain) and I know that, for her, I am the same person regardless of what I look like on the outside and she loves me for who I am and not what I look like. I appreciate that and…

Did close to the same thing. You could look at it like I'm trying to - there will always be setbacks. The setbacks aren't the problem. It’s what you do after the setback. Log it, notice how you felt (without judgement if possible), and celebrate yourself for sticking to your plan today. Not logging it makes it feel more…

I had a huge blowout last night. 1000 calories. My NSV is that I'm back on track today and said no to a bagel.

Wrong way around. 5 pounds is around 2.2 kg.

You gain a huge health benefit when you lose 10% body weight. Reaching a "healthy" BMI may or may not be a great goal for any particular individual. I think the most important thing is can you maintain at the weight you reach. You can always get down to 200 maintain there and then reassess. My goal weight puts me at an…

Sorry to hear that @amanda. I have definitely found that having a dog has increased my daily activity - walking 30-60 minutes every day. Also, he gives everyone in our family lots of love!

You look great!

I'm also 6'1". I started out at 245 and am now 213. Aiming for 200 for now. Maybe a little less- although not as excited avout onderland. 200 land would also be good! Enjoying fitting into all my clothes! And want to be able to eat a fair amount at goal

Loved that book! And great analogy. I think a big step for me is understanding the difference between restraint and restriction. If I feel restricted my first impulse is to rebelet (and eat an moan about how things aren't fair) Restraint feels different I feel better when I exercise restraint -as @scolaris says, if I…

Why not sign up for the weekly Zumba class? And then continue with the walking. You could find a walking partner and shake up the routine a bit- i.e., walk interspersed with some body weight resistance exercises (lunges, squats, push ups, triceps dips), or walk interspersed with going up a hill, doing intervals. I agree…

As another very tall woman I can relate! When I was younger, I'd say I was 5'11. Now I'll proudly claim my 6'1.

I agree. I also think that I want to be at a weight that's easy to maintain. So maybe my BMI will be 26 instead of 24, but I'll get to eat more! Then hopefully I'll be able to maintain long term

Amazing milestones everyone! Congrats! I love that they include pounds lost, clothes fitting, fitness goals reached, and habits starting to be established. I've lost 10% of my body weight. Fit into some smaller clothes Logged over 100 days in a row And am playing soccer tomorrow and am hoping to have more endurance!

Ate a medium to large brunch and then a really yummy big dinner! The 90 minute walk helped keep me almost down to maintenance - but not quite. That's OK. It was less than I ate last year, and back to a small deficit tomorrow. Merry Christmas to all who celebrate!

BMI is overrated I think. Aim to achieve a weight you can retain while still enjoying life then you're much more likely to maintain.

I'm 6 1 female and currently 222-aiming for 200. According to a recent body composition assessment, everything that isn't fat weighs just over 150. So my goal would puy me around 25% body far. I am somewhat self-conscious of my weight- even at my skinnier at 17, I was still 170! However, it's a good thing because it…
