Hi gang! I feel like I'm living in a hair dryer. Temps hovering around 100 with a heat index over 110 today and a 30mph wind. Ahhh....summer in Oklahoma. I did a little shopping this morning between a medical appointment and lunch with my BFF. I got a pair of shorts and a pair of capris in a size I haven't been for quite a…

Janet - have you tried meetings? Am I remembering correctly that you did online only? I just have had such great success and made several forever friends through two different WW meetings during my time with the program a and would love it for you if you could find a good group and leader near you. Now, not all WW meetings…

Hi gang ! It's oppressively hot and humid here in OKC and it seems like all good humor left with Kevin Durant's decision to leave the Thunder. I spent most of the day yesterday on the computer researching, and eventually purchasing a new ultra wide angle camera lens. I wish I'd had it at the Grand Canyon back in March, but…

Janet - we had a little thunderstorm this morning really early and got about .4" rain out of it. Not enough rain to water thoroughly and now the humidity is outrageous! It woke Dave and Dinky up, sent Dinky hiding under the bed for the rest of his sleep, but I didn't wake up at all. In fact, I woke up in the position I…

Hi gang! Just realized as I was looking back through things that I've been lurking most of the week and not posting. I guess just not feeling chatty - which is soooo not like me! It's a pretty lazy day here. I washed and cleaned my car really good this morning after WW but not much else. Dave's making a green bean salad…

Patti, i assume you're talking about your Suzi. if you're talking about me, there's no storms in the area. We generally don't get really bad ones this time of year. It's too dang hot. It takes a good mix of hot, warm air and a cold front banging together to get the really severe storms. Bert - that dang word. (((BIG…

Hi gang! We're home from the lake and it's been a busy couple days. We spent all morning yesterday cleaning up one of he sailboats in anticipation of sailing July 4. The municipal lake where the boat club is and where we keep her is a great spot for viewing fireworks - it's in the middle of OKC and you can see fireworks…

Hi gang! A hot day at the lake, but we found a good spot to anchor the boat and swim this morning. Bones - I even have enough signal to check in with y'all! I just did the absolute stupidest thing. - lost my prescription sunglasses into deep water ! I'm so aggravated with myself! I'll have to go the Walmart and get some…

Here's my flower bed with the phlox in full bloom.

Mornin' y'all! It's a glorious morning on my back porch and I wanted to share it with you while the coffee's brewing. More brutal hot here for the next couple day before a "cool front" drops our temps all the way down to 90 or so over the weekend. Karla - yes, Dean is Kelly's grandson that we were talking about the night…

Here's Dean with a PBJ face enjoying his lunch.

Hi, gang! It's sweltering hot here in OK. Today is the second babysitting day and we're having a great time! Dean is a very happy baby and at a really fun age, too. He was scared of Dave yesterday, but enjoying him today. I'll post a pic of the two of them playing with Dave's "stick bucket" - a bucket full of wood scraps…

Wow! What a surprise to check in after missing yesterday to see that we ALL missed yesterday! Guess everyone is busy, busy! Mary Lynn, that's a beautiful ode to fathers you posted. You write very elegantly and I very much enjoy reading your posts. I sometimes think my redneck roots are a little too visible in mine! Becky,…

Real quick, I wanted to show y'all his pic of Jessi catching the bouquet at a wedding she and Garrett were in a few weeks ago. That's my niece, Liz, just behind and to the left of Jessi with her hand up in he air.

Hi gang! I'm on day 7 of tracking everything and will get to see how it plays out at the scales tomorrow morning. We're going to dinner at a German restaurant and then to a Nitty Gritty Dirt Band concert tonight with some friends. I have no idea what I'm going to eat, but will figure something out. Janet - enjoy your trip…

Bert - try VRBO - vacation rentals by owner. My cousin Jodi, the one Karla knows, found the house we stayed in at Key West that way. Kelly, my sister/cousin, and her family have had great success with AirBNB. We haven't tried that ourself, because we're normally camping..... Good luck with the hunt!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PATTI!!! You've been on my mind ever since I read your post about the family meeting yesterday afternoon. Ditto what Karla said about yard sales being good places to buy used books. Karla - so sorry about the codeine cough med wiring you up. I knocks me flat out! Funny thing, my alcoholic/addict ex couldn't…

Oh my gosh Patti! Hoping it's just a discussion of some kind and not devastating news. Bert - I don't mind the notifications at all! I'm just so impressed with the activity you're getting in and it's such a difference from what you were able to do before surgery. Karla - my sentiments exactly on the gun issue. Nobody needs…

Had a great nap after lunch - it was raining, much cooler and we actually had the windows open. I've had a post-nap snack of watermelon and am cheering on the OSU Cowboys baseballers. If they can pull off this win, they're in the College World Series for the first time since 1999. UPDATE: COWBOYS WIN!!!! I had a good…

Here's a piece of the big flower bed where things are just starting to bloom. That's Memaw's birdbath. The taller stuff behind it is phlox which are about to bloom and they are just glorious all summer. I'll have to post another pic when they're blooming.

You can see several of my buckets and an old stove in this pic.
-
Here's some of the containers I put together this year. As you'll see in another pic, I like making flower pots out of old buckets and other "found objects".
-
This is the first of some back porch pix. It's my favorite spot on the whole place!

Impatiens in the pots that were given to my mama when I was a baby. That's more impatiens in the flower bed in front with my Memaw's peonies I moved from my house when I moved in with Dave. We built that flower bed especially for the peonies last year and I keep adding to it.

THis is the new flower bed around the mailbox that we made a couple weeks ago.

Hi gang! It's a cloudy, rainy day here in OK so far this morning. Just sprinkling here at home, but apparently raining a lot an hour and a half south at the lake. Flash flood warning in effect down there according to TV weather. We came home Wednesday and my girls and I had a wonderful evening out. Dinner in Bricktown…

Patti - we had a storm shelter put in a couple months ago, so I'm much calmer now when it storms knowing that I have my hidey hole in the garage waiting for me. It's all stocked, too - the family pictures, batteries, light, weather radio, bottled water, snacks and whiskey! Trust me folks, if your house gets blown down,…

Good morning my friends! It's the long lost Okie checking in again at last. Karla - holy cow! Izzy's bouquet must be as big as she is! Absolutely GORGEOUS flowers! Have fun at the recital. Patti - enjoy your time at the cabin. We're headed to the lake tomorrow morning. Dave was there most of last week fishing with the guys…

Hi all! No time like the present, even if it's after 11 pm local time, to check in after a long absence. Hellacious thunderstorms in OK his evening, but think the worst is over finally. I think there was either a brief tornado touch down or very strong straight winds out at the farm. The preliminary report is a tree came…

Beth - I was such a dentist chicken that I didn't even have my teeth cleaned for about 10 years, in spite of having dental insurance and taking my kids every 6 months. Finally tried a new dentist that another cheer mom worked for and promised he would give me gas and wouldn't belittle me for not going. As soon as I sit…
