I drank 3-4 diet sodas a day and was 300+ pounds for over 25 years. I am down over 190 pounds and still drink 3-4 diet sodas a day. For me personally I see no negative effects.

At 349 pounds my feet, ankles, knees and back all ached and hurt almost all of the time. Now at 157# none of those bother me anymore.

I credit calorie counting for a 192# loss in 20 month's. I don't think I would have ever accomplished it without counting calories.
