• Another problem with MFP is that the calculator overrides to 1200, and it does not work with your actual TDEE. Example: My TDEE (non-exercise days) is 1600. To lose 1 pound per week, I'd have to eat within 1100 calories. However, MFP override the number to 1200. If I manually enter 300 calories for exercise, my total…
•
I'm not saying that people don't also put on unnecessary fast, or that they can't lose weight by reducing intake. I'm saying that not all weight gain is necessarily fat in adulthood, nor is it necessarily bad.
I have been reading studies that appear to indicate that older women (70 years old +) tend to be…
• When I first started my weight loss journey, the cheat days made me feel like terrible. Now, when I look back at the big picture, the cheat days were merely bumps on the road, meaningless anomalies, and they had very little impact on my overall weight loss. The most damaging impact of the so-called cheat-days is what they…
• Self-sabotage is a common theme among those of us who are struggle with weight issues. I can relate. I am close to your age (30) and I was overweight or obese for all of my adult life, up until April 2016. Even now, while technically in the normal weight range, the struggle isn't any easier. I struggle with overeating on a…
• I've been losing 1 pound per week up until recently, but I'm on a maintenance break for now...my last period was in March. I have a doctors apt scheduled, but I'm slightly freaked out. I've never gone so long without....aside from pregnancies, breastfeeding, etc.
• He doesn't sound especially well meaning.... therein lies the problem.
• That is most of the struggle. We're human, after all. It isn't as simple as doing a few calculations, and voila! For some of us, it's a constant battle. Weight loss is such a mind game.
• I am taking a diet break due to mentally being exhausted from the weight loss journey. I do feel like I have no idea when/how to get back on track because I'm so much enjoying having little extra snacks throughout the day. Knowing myself, I thought this might happen but I tried to think I would have behaved differently.…
• I was definitely obese as a child and I weighed 240 pounds by the time I was 19 years old. I lost weight and I got down to just above the normal BMI cut-off at 150 pds at age 19. Then, as I got married & had 2 kids, and my weight zig-zagged for a few years. I am now 30 years old and weigh 142 pounds. I am within the normal…
• Wow. So there is hope that my thighs will get smaller? Never mind. You can't spot reduce...
• I agree that if in a way is a form of fasting that we all have practiced in some form or another for years. Example: skipping breakfast to have a bigger lunch However, there was a poster a while back who had shared his IF weight loss story. He ate his daily calorie allowance within one small 4hour window. It was regimented…
• A diet of 1200 calories per day might mean a 1 pound per week weight loss, which is quite reasonable. Why are people so negative about a 1200 calorie diet? If a 6'1" active individual ate only 1200 calories per day, I can see negative repercussions, but a 5'3" sedentary female?
• A slightly overweight woman of average height (5'4") with a desk job will maintain her weight at 1600 calories. If that same woman were to eat 200 calories above her TDEE, it would account for a gain of 20 pounds per year. 200 calories per day could mean an extra x-large latte, or half a muffin. That same woman could be…
• If you don't use it, you lose it. That's what keeps me motivated.
• For the past 4.5 months, my goal was 1200 calories, plus eating back a portion of my exercise calories.
• I lost weight while breastfeeding. It added a nice amount of calories to my daily calorie goal, and I didn't have to eat a low amount of calories at all. See if you're losing weight at TDEE calories and re-evaluate.
• I agree. You could still have a big salad or a bowl of soup for dinner and call it a day. When I have a big lunch, I am usually able to keep my dinner relatively light.
• Like others, I find that "seeing the big picture" helps deal with binge eating. I don't think I have conquered them completely, but I can cope better with then after the fact. If I binge, it comes from a place of self-doubt. The binges reinforce a lingering feeling that I am destined to be fat, that I lack will-power and…
• I am not at maintenance yet, but... I weighed 240 pounds 13 years ago, then dropped to 150 pounds. One marriage and two kids later, I am at 142 pounds, with a goal to get down to 120-130 pounds. I have never gone back to 240, but I came close with my second pregnancy. My TDEE numbers have so far been fairly accurate.
• lol, this site is not very friendly toward women who try to net 1200 calories. If I net 1200 calories, I barely lose 1 pound per week. That is not an aggressive goal in my book.
• Similar stats here (142 pounds and 5'4", trying to lose 10-20 pounds) and similar calorie goal (I eat back some of exercise calories but sometimes I don't to make up for higher calorie weekends, etc.). I pair my dinner with a big chopped salad. Lots of lettuce, kale, celery, carrots, radishes. I make a home-made low-cal…
• I've followed a similar plan since December and I'm doing ok. If anything, I have more energy now. I go to bed at 8:30 pm and I get up at 4:30 am. I eat on average about 1400 calories. If you're at 1200 calories before dinner, you can have a smaller dinner (400 calories) and NET 1200 calories (if that's your goal). I go to…
• I log everything & weigh most things, but I don't weigh everything I eat (to maintain my sanity). I purchased a scale about 6 weeks into my weight loss. While I did notice discrepancies in what I was logging prior to owning a scale, I found that most errors cancelled each other out, so now, I am more relaxed, and I trust…
• Wow. This is inspiring me to take a diet break, but I don't know how to get there mentally. It would feel like giving up, and a throwback to all the other times I didn't follow through with weight loss. I can't get over that hump. Plus, I am very routine based. If I get used to getting that extra treat at night, or a…
• I love cottage cheese, including non-fat. I appreciate the variety. I eat my cottage cheese with 0.5 cup of frozen fruit. It is delicious. I am just the opposite of a picky eater. I love all the food.
• Big salads with nonfat dressing. So time consuming to chop, peel, wash and prep the veggies that I got lazy for a while. But now I love making salads. They are so filling and really help to add volume to my meals, which helps with a low Cal diet
• Thanks for posting this. I have a similar body type and problem areas. I'm 5'4" and 143 pounds at the moment, and my all-time highest was 240 pounds. I am aiming to reach 130 pounds to have some "wiggle room" in maintenance as I am just 2 pounds shy of the overweight category. But, looking at YOUR pictures (as opposed to…
• question. I'm losing about 1 pound per week and eating an average of 1300 calories per day. My period is delayed by 2 weeks. i've taken 2 pregnancy tests and both were negative. I have been regular for a few years, so it is unusual. Is it a sign that I should slow down my weight loss or is it a normal byproduct of weight…
• I am a mom of two and I work a desk job as well. I wake up at 4:30 am to get my 1 hour of cardio. During lunch, I walk and I get at least 5,000 steps in during my lunch hour alone. Both of my parents passed away at a young age and it is my main motivation to get to a healthy weight (and maintain it). This is actually the…
• It is absolutely a habit. It took me at least two months to get used to a new normal where I wasn't snacking throughout the evening and while watching tv. I did it gradually and eventually I lost that "pull" toward snacking. Weighing my snacks and knowing their caloric content helped me decide whether I really wanted to…
