IF helped me control my eating on the weekends. Weekends were always a challenge because my meals tended to be much bigger. I learned that I didn't have to have three square meals per day, so I switched to two meals on the weekends. IF on the weekends (a smaller eating window) allows me to have more satisfying meals. I…

Let's assume 30-something is still young lol. I have two kids and a full time job. My main focus this time around is finding a healthy lifestyle that I can maintain long term. I want to be healthy for my kids but I also want to be healthy for me. I find that working out during my lunch hour is the long term solution for…

I was sure I was being mocked. Either way, you are right it doesn't matter. In my head, I am still 240 pounds. It's been over 10 years since I've been at that weight but it sticks. I guess my past experiences with teenage boys have tainted my perception.

thank you for the positive comments! I am grateful for the support. It truly brought me back to high school, where I was 240 pounds and quite obese at 5'4", and I associate any attention from teenage boys with that time. I know it's kind of pathetic to still have those thoughts in my 30's, but those feelings never truly go…

Hi Laura! I'm around your weight, two inches shorter, but with a history of obesity as a child as well. My weight has ping-ponged throughout my adult life, but I am trying to make a permanent change this time. Good luck in your journey and here's to 160!

not extremely petty but there’s a stack of clothes in my closet that i would love to be able to wear again, plus i am too cheap to buy new clothes

You're not alone. You can do it!

"cheat meals" were a remnant of my binge mentality and it made me confirm my suspicions that deep down inside, all I wanted to do was gorge on food all day, so why not cave into it indefinitely. now I'm on round 2 of losing the same weight, and while I sometimes eat out for special occasions, I do everything in moderation.…

very inaccurate. i have a sedentary job but I work out 4 times per week and remain lightly active while picking up the kids, going to the park, light cleaning around the house, etc. I am 5'4" and at the moment 172 pounds. Accoridng to the calculator I need 2,363 calories to maintain my weight. My TDEE according to my…

I do it here and there. It does give me a bit of perspective ie I don't need food every other minute. I practice IF on the weekends when I know my lunches and dinners tend to be bigger, so I wait until 12 pm to eat my first meal.

I'm four weeks in. It's been a completely different experience this time around. Today, I had to miss spin class. So I took a walk instead. No guilt. No regret. I felt like it was do-able, the whole weight loss thing. It feels more sustainable but I do miss seeing the weight drop consistently and sharply.
-
I definitely do not intend to lose 40 pounds in 4 months. I am currently losing at a rate of 1 pound per week and I find it sustainable. I do want to mention though that at my current weight (175) I AM obese. At the bottom of the obese range, yes, but still obese. So, while I don't want to lose as fast as I did in 2016, I…

It took me 4 months to lose 40 pounds.

I went down to 140 (my goal weight) in 2016. I did it by tracking on MFP and waking up at 4 am every day to run on a treadmill for an hour. I would get nasty migraines once a week, and each migraine lasted three days. So, half of the time, I had throbbing pain in my head, and everything felt woozy and distorted. My period…

No, never at the gym. But, just last year, as a 5'4" female and somewhere in the 160's, I received a boatload of harassment while biking to a bike trail. On thar particular evening, Nelly was performing on the other side of town. Boatloads of teenagers and young adults were in their cars or waiting at bus stops trying to…

another 175 weigh in and i am just waiting for happy scale to catch up.
-
That is difficult for me to accept - mentally - that I may still be losing weight and the scale has been so erratic up and down in the last few days. I am trying to look at the big picture and I am not doing anything drastically different, so I should still be losing. Thanks for sharing your experiences and hopefully as I…

Thanks for the advice. I am going to try work out with a second barbell. The fitness room is usually pretty packed, and the second barbell might be a challenge when it's really crowded. I also do want to try a couple of sessions with a personal trainer but I want to hold off until I reach my goal weight. It might seem…

what helped for me was eating small meals/snacks throughout the day and never having an empty stomach.

Because I'm on the treadmill 4-5 times per week, I figured I should focus on upper body. I'd like to incorporate lower body exercises, but I can't get the proper form for squats on my own, and I'm a little intimidated...

Sometimes you'll end up with cake or other treats in the house. You need to find ways to cope. You can freeze the cheesecake and take one piece out at a time. However, at this point, it is more about forgiving yourself for the past few months, and finding a way to move on. It sounds like you are suffering from depression…

I am struggling with this in a major way lol. There's nothing I like more than a big bowl of snacks and TV time after the kids go to bed. All I can do is try to: - portion control - swap out to lower calorie options such as frozen fruit - indulge less often

It is hard for people to accept that the reasons why people overeat are varied. It would be great to pinpoint that one reason why the average adult in the US is overweight, but we won't be able to accomplish that in this thread, unfortunately. Speaking from personal experience, as someone who spent the first 30 years of…

I agree with all the comments above. I have PCOS too, and it's horrible in a lot of ways, but I found out that the CI/CO equation worked perfectly well for me once I started keeping track of my calories in an honest way. Though, there was a time I was convinced that PCOS made it impossible for me to lose weight. I was…

The author's been: - fat and unhappy - thin and unhappy - fat and happy - maybe one day she'll discover what it is to be happy, period. What I got from this article is that when she was thin, she didn't have the right tools or the approach to strike a balance between diet and exercise to maintain a healthy weight. She was…

Unless it's served buffet-style, weighing a plated dinner would mean taking apart the food and weighing the meat/starch/vegetables separately. It could be seen as "playing with your food". I don't know how that could be done in a polite manner. Another issue is that the focus of the evening would be on the calories rather…

The kitchen scale is a tool. I equate the kitchen scale to my mixing bowl, knife set, and other kitchen utensils. There are many people within the normal weight range who rely on intuitive eating to maintain their weight. I am not one of those people, yet. Intuitive eating has not worked for me in the past. It is quite…

I'd love to be taller, and have a higher TDEE as a result LOL...that's all that comes to mind as an "average" sized woman. There are people who are actually jealous of you.
