Do an average weight and reps. It's always good if you can log the actual details. However the regular squats will not benefit unless you give some intervals to body to change.

Try cardio and some low weight squats

Elliptical I recommend. Treadmill can burn bit more calories however elliptical help the whole body workout. Treadmill will cause knee damages in future however crosstrainers are more safe.

Everyone wrote valid points and I believe diet will be more than enough if the goal is just to loose weight but it may take bit longer. You can loose weight quickly if u diet and going to gym at the same time. One thing I am sure is gong to gym doesn't help to loose weight unless u don't control your diet.
