Ugh, this week is not going well. I’m doing the opposite of what I want to do—I’m eating even more unplanned food than last week on vacation and the holidays. I’m not even measuring because I don’t want to know or don’t care. I’m mindlessly nibbling off my kids’ plates, while I’m cooking, and when I’m not even hungry. Why…

Yes, true it’s part of life. I wish I could enjoy vacations more, actually. I find it hard to relish the indulgences.

Does anyone else have mixed feelings about vacations? I am a glutton for routine, as well as a stay at home mom, so fellow moms will understand how traveling with four little ones is taking the crazy show on the road. Nine hours in the car, it’s a lot!

4. Stick you your usual routine as much as possible. If you’re in the habit of eating in a certain window or working out first thing in the morning, try to keep with that.

Okay, I’m going to answer my own post. Sometimes it helps me to think through answering my own questions: 1. Plan your treats in advance. It is okay to have that pizza or hot cocoa or whatever, but don’t negotiate those treats in the moment. Know at the start of the day what you’re saving your calories up for so you’ll be…

As I approach two years since joining MFP, I have gradually learned that it truly is a “friend” here to help me, not to rule me. Meaning, it makes life more manageable not having to guess at calories. By putting it in the log, it’s off my mind and I can focus my energies on other things. It’s one less thing to worry about.

It sounds like you’re doing a great job, especially given your circumstances. I wouldn’t worry about working out at all right now. Make sleep the priority. If you get adequate rest your cortisol will stay lower than if you cut into sleep and try to squeeze in exercise. Focus on sleep and eating in your calorie budget.

Jumping in here! Just for today: 1. Eat slowly, mindfully, sitting down 2. Ask my kids to clear their own places and package leftovers so I’m not tempted to nibble 3. Pre-portion my nighttime snack (150 cal) when I make dinner

It's not related to TOM or being truly hungry. I could eat a huge meal beforehand and still wake up and eat. It's just a habit. By hormonal I'm wondering if something like cortisol causes me to wake, and also stimulates a feeling of appetite. Habit making and habit breaking, so hard to do!

I'll pray for you!!

What if I put a door chime on the fridge announcing my little secret? Maybe five nights of that and I'd been done with my silly habit.

I can relate! It's fun to succeed and seeing the scale go ever lower as a marker of success until you reach your goal. Then you have to accept that the number bouncing up and down around your goal weight is success. How about making a new goal and measure of progress? It could mean getting a step tracker and setting a goal…

My goal weight was my wedding weight. That's what he married and I think it's nice to more or less stay close to that.

I have to laugh when I read, "One little party is going to be pretty irrelevant to the big picture." True, but the cookie exchange is over, and tonight is a Christmas buffet, tomorrow is my son's first birthday, that afternoon is a food-filled concert my kids are in, and tomorrow night is a Christmas party at my friend's…

Thank you for all of your advice. It sounds like banking calories is the way to go. It may seem like the obvious choice to you, but in the past I have gone into these types of situations and failed miserably by either having an unrealistic plan (i.e. to not eat on iota of anything there) or having a free for all. I have a…

That's the key, not overeating. I thought I could indulge in low cal ice cream but one bar became two, became three...

Yes, you're right. I think of my babies' bellies how they change when they get older though. When they're toddlers they aren't fat, but their belly kind of sticks out. And eventually they develop core strength and they have flat abs. I will do as you recommend and work on sitting and standing straight. I catch myself…

Thanks for the replies! I'm very grateful for the body God gave me, but I want to increase my fitness both for myself and to set a good example for my children. When I flex or pull my abs in, I can get to the pre-baby state. It's just when I relax that it gently slopes out. Thankfully I don't have loose skin, extra fat or…

I would say go see an endocrinologist :)
