There's not much difference between sugar and honey, why would you switch? Just use a reasonable amount and track it.

If I'm understanding, due to history of constipation, your doctor has put you on a 3 day prep. If that's correct, follow the doctor's orders. You will probably face a setback at the gym, but no worse than being out from a cold. 3 days won't be bad, but will probably force you to take a couple easy days getting back. You…

He's 13, perfect age to start learning. Start slow, and start small. Maybe set a goal of just jogging for 15-20 minutes. Don't focus on distance or pace other than to go slow. Just encourage him and tell him he can do anything if he puts in the time and effort. He doesn't need c25k, that's for sedentary adults. Just have…

Ever notice how many paleo evangelists have only been doing it for a couple weeks or even just a few days? It's so restrictive and as others have pointed out, calories and nutrition are totally different considerations. If you're here to lose weight, your primary concern should be calories. I can't buy in to any 'diet'…

I drink them, but I generally don't believe they do anything. I drink them because I like the taste, and they're safe, not that expensive, and may help a little. I've been drinking the same brand as my protein, ON which is on Amazon. BCAAs are 3 of the 9 essential amino acids which you get from whey, eggs, meat, and other…

I never liked backpacks or belts too much bouncing unless you get them really tight which isn't fun. I always had a cycling bottle that I carried like a football running back in the crook of my arm. Ultra runners seem to prefer the kind with a strap for your hand. Try a few things and figure out what works for you. You can…

It's good but slow. You'd have to walk for hours to equal 20 minutes of running. Same reason you have to bike twice as long to get similar burn to running. Pick what you like. I think the 10k step rule is a good guideline if you're not working out. If you have a desk job, you're probably not getting 10k steps and will find…

Be very careful with PWs. I've used them on and off for years. Most people cycle on and off, after a month or so I'd get headaches and other side effects. Most importantly, there's a lot of research out there of the potential impact to liver function. Just think of all the B vitamins and other crap they cram in there. Many…

Thanks Roxie, I kind of think it's something else and mine would end up in the same place. I jumped back into my normal routine, but nothing has been normal for the past 2 weeks. I generally border on over training, but at the moment am well rested. However I'm coming back from a beach vacation with one 6 mile run to my…

coffee makes me tired if I drink too much and/or am not drinking enough water. Try drinking more water and if you feel tired, down a bottle quickly. I find that benefits me quite a bit. Other than that, sleep seems to help...

Ya, they never even had me sign the agreement so there is no agreement and they're not going to charge me. It has nothing to do with billing, it's a small gym and they just go in and make the change. I just canceled my wife's 24 hour membership a couple months ago and she was able to use the remaining time we had paid for…

You do pay up front here too, so on 6/1 you pay for all of June. They're saying if you give notice on 5/20, you still owe another payment on 6/1 which is crazy to me in a no commitment agreement. In fact, you committed to the 6/1 payment as of 5/1. I understand in an apartment lease, or if they're giving some price…

You mean change it so it doesn't post the update at all? I guess that would be better. I like the idea of only posting the change from a specific period like Saturday morning to Saturday morning.

As far as I know it syncs every time. My wife still uses a regular scale, so I tend to use that for day to day. On the one hand, it would be nice to see all the fluctuations but I don't like that MFP always posts I've lost weight anytime my weight is lower than the previous measurement.

I don't know about the flex, but I wear a One to track steps. I'm always surprised how big the adjustment is from steps alone. If I go to crossfit, I don't worry about getting credit for exercise. It helps me reach 10k steps which gives way more than enough calorie adjustment. I also do a lot of running and cycling and…

How often / long do you ride? And how long did it take?

I also live in LA and work in OC and have a 46 mile one way commute. I get up every day at 440 and leave the house at 5am. Crossfit 6-7 and start work at 730. I leave work at 5pm and get home at 630pm. Almost everyone can make time for a workout, but it has to be a priority. I have no sympathy for someone who doesn't even…

Ya, that's basically it. It's just a theoretical question, I don't expect there's a definitive answer I was just thinking it would be interesting if your body was able to gain more weight than the food actually weighed to begin with.
-
Regardless, there are 9 cal/g in fat right? So a pound of fat should have 4,082 calories. Assuming the 3,500 example were anything less than 4,082 for an individual, you would gain more weight than the food you ate right? Just seems counterintuitive to me that you could (in theory) gain more weight than the weight of your…

Water weight might account for these temporary ups and downs. Do you weight everything before dinner? try weighing yourself 3x before eating to make sure you get an accurate reading. Then, ensure you weight everything you eat AND drink. Unless your scales aren't accurate, it should be close. Regarding over night, you lose…

Exactly. I've heard people say something like if I eat a pound I'd gain two. I was just thinking through whether it's actually possible to gain more weight than you actually eat. And I used pure fat instead of another macro because it's 9 cal/g instead of 4 with protein and carbs. A pound of carbohydrate for example would…

By the way, pace yourself at the start of the race. Adrenaline causes a lot of people to go out too strong. Don't worry about your time, enjoy the event. If you came in a little slow, you'd have that much more opportunity to improve your PR.

Stick to the plan! Regardless, you've put in the work, it's time to have fun. The extra long run may do more harm than good, follow the taper and trust in your training. You may have had a hard time because your body needs the taper, so enjoy it and the payoff of all your hard work.

If you decide you need 1400 calories / day to lose weight, then you just need to stick to that. But, the composition of the calories will determine how satisfied and full you are. A standard snickers bar has 215 calories, so you could eat 6.5 bars in a day to hit 1400 calories. The bars are 1.5 oz so you'd be eating 10 oz…

You don't need to worry too much about this for a 4 mile run. Having some cold water to drink and dump on your head can help. I lived in CA and moved to TX for a few years. Was running 3:30 marathons in CA and get to TX and couldn't do more than 8 miles starting at 4 am due to heat. As others have said on hydration, you…

I love it but the expense is really adding up. I may quit after this month even though I enjoy it. It's a great interval/strength workout that I can't replicate on my own. It's hard to do anything like it at a normal gym because etiquette requires you not take up half the equipment to set up a circuit. It also gets you to…

I'm sorry for your loss. Don't forget they're just clothes. If your sister was here I'm sure she'd say congrats on your weight loss, now donate my old clothes! You can't use them anymore, but someone out there sure can. Donate them so someone else can benefit from them.
