Lots of people have hereditary high cholesterol and it is manageable with diet and exercise. The key is finding out which foods your body needs to lower it. Some people will need a low fat diet to lower theirs, some people will need a high fat diet (I did). Having your cholesterol be higher for a couple of years while you…

Lots of people do this. It works well (and doesn't look silly IMHO). I'm just not a necklace person. ;)

I HAD to lower my goal to 1# per week b/c I could not do 1200 cals a day. It made a huge difference in my ability to be successful staying within my calorie goal. MFP set me at 1510 and with exercise I can end up around 1700 (eating back half). So definitely worth changing to 1# a week.

Hemochromatosis is a possibility. As is your body taking iron in but not utilizing it (needing more co-nutrients like vitamin C). You can actually have high iron stores but low circulating iron. 279 isn't not awful and nowhere near the "danger" zone, but you definitely want to start finding answers to "why" and aim to fix…

I have familial high cholesterol. My father died at 42 from heart disease and high cholesterol and every extended family member has as well (grandparents, etc). Nothing about statins is going to help you. At 11yrs old my cholesterol was well over 300, nearing 400. The only thing that has ever brought my cholesterol down is…

Oh girl. This is SOOOO normal. And it should make you feel better about the weight because you'd be surprised how much water you lose that first 24hrs (hidden meaning: peeing non-stop. LOL). I pump the serious fluids the first few days trying to just flush everything out. The ring thing is pretty common. I finally got a…

Oh my goodness, yes! I gained 50#'s with my first two pregnancies. I left the hospital 24hrs after having them having already lost 35#'s (they were 9.3 and 9.12 so a long ways from 35#'s). Birkenstocks were my friend b/c my ankles were so swollen (and my fingers, face, and anyplace else that had an inch that could hold…

I never take mine off when I workout but I don't dead lift yet. That said, I'm not usually one to take my rings off unless it really really hurts so I would likely start out not doing so and see what happens.

Did you somewhere miss where a number of us suggested she continue to weigh, measure, and log what she eats to make sure she doesn't overdo it? No one is telling her to eat with abandon. What we're telling her is she's growing a baby. She can (and should) be careful with her diet (weighing, logging, etc) but at this point,…

So much good advice here. Food allergies are so hard! We dealt with some anaphylactic food allergies for quite awhile and it's exhausting staying diligent. You're doing a great job! Just hang in there. It feels like forever but you're more then half way. Just do your best food wise and deal with it afterwards. I completely…

Elphie, I'm sure mentally this is very difficult. Not sure how far along you are, but if you're far enough to either feel the baby move or have the baby belly popping out, put your hands on your belly and remind yourself your body is doing an amazing thing. You are growing a baby. If your doctor is allowing you to lose (or…

I am 2.6 pounds from my first mini goal of losing 20#'s. It's taken me almost a year to get here with lots of ups and downs and a TON of emotional work. I'm now losing steadily. When I lose this 2.6 pounds I told myself I get to redo my kid's bathroom decor. They outgrew yellow duckies about 5 years ago. I'm looking…

OP - This ^^^^^^^^^ is excellent advice. Please look at it again and again. You need to plug your stats in MFP again and see how many cals it says you need to maintain your weight. My guess is it is well over what you are getting on an average day.

I have to doctor my coffee big time. I use xylitol instead of sugar. It is a 1:1 exchange with sugar. I use a powdered creamer instead of liquid as I tend to use less of it for some reason. I allow for myself to have 2-3 cups per day and still have breakfast.

Ah. Was typing when this posted. This is absolutely dead on. Body fat, weight, dietary fats. All related to hormones. Sorry for the repeat info. She beat me to it.

First, yes, LONG term loss of cycle can be an issue health wise but 8 months is far from long term. You are right to be addressing the issue now but you do not need to panic. Weight loss has definitely caused my cycles to change. And definitely being too low (even the low end of normal) can be an issue for some women. That…

Welcome. Our stats are almost the same. I am also 5'2 and looking for my first goal at 150. I don't know if I'll go lower then that, but that will put me where I was when I got married. I'm pretty muscular so not sure I'll go below that. Welcome to the group.

I did not say being on mfp meant one is putting it ahead of working out so don't put words in mouth. I specifically said *I* had a choice to make. As for the fda link and not trusting the fda, I was simply trying to grab a link off of a page that most of you worship as truth. Had I posted a link from an alternative site…
-
Because.......I have a life to live and very rapidly did a search and when I saw fda.gov grabbed the link. I didn't have time to read it. I saw your comment later and started a post that apologized for the mis-grabbed link but got distracted by kids and didn't end up posting until I saw this this morning. So no, not…

Very often I found it wasn't near as bad as I thought it was when I did overdo it. I would use it as a learning time and then move on.

I actually have no issue with what you stated here about freedom to disagree, your disagreement with me regarding aspartame, etc. But if you go back and look at most of these posts where people "disagree" with someone, that is not how the post is written. It is written (as you said) as "so and so is wrong." Not, "I…

The ability to look back over 30 days and see where my calories had been that month was one of the things that helped me move forward with working harder to stay within my daily goal. The good news is, now that you saw your denial, you can move forward from it. Good for you for being honest with yourself.

I am firmly in the camp that aspartame is not safe. I don't care if others want to fill their bodies with it. So be it. But I do not believe it is safe and I do not believe AT ALL that this issue is settled in the health community. Having read plenty on how aspartame got approved by the FDA was just the beginning (besides…

Oh, no kidding. The issue was, I literally craved Diet Coke so I drank it like water. Any sort of diet soda would satisfy the need but I preferred Diet Coke. That's where I do think that aspartame does have addictive possibilities because there's nothing else in it that would indicate that kind of pull.

[quote="johnwelk;38107249" [/quote] John, you are not worth it. It would not matter how much evidence I posted you would be of the same opinion, so what would be the point? Since my family actively uses hpathy, and has for years, I could really care less what you think or what the NIH says when it comes to hpathy. My boy…

I'm one of those people that is/was greatly affected by artificial sweeteners. It did affect my cravings, I did gain a tremendous amount of weight drinking them (b/c it affects cravings which affected my appetite). And to top it off, the AS gave me a severe case of pancreatitis while pregnant (not a good thing!). Needless…

THIS ^^^^^ is balance.

If you haven't used it, you probably have no room to make comment on it. Given its been our sole source of medical care for the last 7yrs, has been used extensively in my home for severe allergic reactions, completely healed my boy's bleeding disorder, is safe and inexpensive, I can tell her unequivocally that it works.…

Activated charcoal capsules. Sorry about not specifying that. Taking the capsules internally will often help pull down a histamine reaction. I second the epsoms salts too! I completely forgot about that. They will help pull one out of a reaction too sometimes. Hope you get some relief today. Pregnant and itchy us no fun…

Hi Elphie, Activated charcoal works sometimes. If you have any capsules of that on hand you can try two of them. It can be repeated with decent frequency (ever hour if needed) if it works for a short time. This is not likely something you'll have on hand but you could get tomorrow. Homeopathic sulfur 30C and/or histaminium…
