  • It's a book. I bought mine used from Amazon for less then $8, I think. In my mind, it is especially important to get a handle on this if you're a bored or emotional eater b/c the weight will come back on if you don't deal with that issue while you're losing.
  • I am generally an "all natural" person but I finally decided to give phentermine a try and I'm so glad I did! I've lost just over 10#'s in 6 weeks and it has really allowed me to learn and practice some behavior modification techniques, really deciding if I'm hungry or wanting to eat emotionally, etc. My best advice would…
  • Gentian violet is OTC at health food stores and is used for oral thrust all the time. It turns the mouth purple so you want to apply it with a q-tip but it works great. Breastfeeding moms often use it for themselves and baby when baby gets thrush.
  • No problem! That's what I get for using my husband's name. ;-)
  • It's actually Patti. Ron is my husband. :p Just figured I'd better make that known in case anyone wondered about my other posts.
  • Wow! Congratulations! Have you been on phen the entire time or just a portion of that? I'm 5 weeks into phen and have lost a little over 7#'s. Still slow, but better then the 1/4# a week I was losing prior to it!
  • I haven't had my blood work redone but wanted to tell you that unless your liver enzymes are elevated above 100, it's not a huge deal. Liver enzymes elevate and decrease for lots of reasons but doctors generally don't worry about them until they've gone well above 100. Not suggesting you don't talk to your doctor, just…
  • I'm working through this book as well and have found it very helpful. But I have zero sense of humor. :-) Sorry. :disappointed:
  • If you're sure it's muscle pain then Arnica 30c taken once every 15 minutes for three doses will help a lot. Arnica cream can be used liberally on the muscle without worrying about dosing. Do Not take too much Arnica by mouth.
  • @angie55575 do you eat back your exercise calories? Or even half of them?
  • I have to second The Diabetes Solution book!! It is a fabulous resource for really getting diabetes under control. The only thing I can say about the diabetes classes where they supposedly "teach" you how to eat is if I had followed them I would have been screwed. They basically teach you to eat whatever you want just…
  • I added phentermine at the beginning of this month. It has helped me tremendously in terms of appetite control, weight loss, and mentally adjusting my thinking. The only side effect I've had is dry mouth but I drink so much water I tend not to notice it. I do not have the zero desire to eat that others have said they have.…
  • I experienced an extreme amount of sexual and emotional abuse from the time I was tiny. That's as concise as I can make that. By the time I was 10 I was anorexic and shifted into bulimia by the time I was in my early teens. Fast forward MANY years of gaining and losing small amounts of weight. I was fairly active so…
  • A very close friend is almost ready to deliver (she is 40 BTW). She's lost 25#'s this pregnancy (this is #6), looks great, has had the best pregnancy of all of them and is still on track to deliver 2 weeks early a 10+ pound baby (she has HUGE babies). So long as you eat nutrient dense foods the baby will get everything it…
  • When I first got my Misfit Shine I was shocked that I was only getting about 3000 steps a day on average. My tracker made me very aware of that and I started to just move more. I always park really far from stores now, etc. I made my first goal to consistently hit 10,000 steps just because I understood that to be…
  • This is hard. At one point we had 3, ages 3 1/2 and under. Other then going for slow walks (because 3yr olds don't walk fast) the only thing I could do to get any exercise was to use a treadmill at home. If I could get through the exhaustion and do it, I always felt better. I also used Bill Phillips Body for Life weight…
  • I have a close friend that is 40 and found out she was a type 2 diabetic and then right away found out she was pregnant (surprise!). She's lost 25#'s this pregnancy, is no longer considered type 2 (normal A1C now) and has had her healthiest pregnancy thus far (5 previous ones). So, yes, you can safely lose weight while…
  • I was a gestational diabetic with my last pregnancy due to getting pancreatitis early in my pregnancy. I became GD at 14 weeks b/c of it. I was put on insulin part way through and it was the worst mistake of my life. If I could go back and undo it, I would have worked WAY harder to control it with diet and would have lost…
  • This is me exactly. I was thrilled to find myself two pounds less by the time my cycle was done. But the pre-bloat is awful.
  • I started phen on 7/6. As of today (7/23) I'm down 7.6 pounds. It sounds so little but I was literally only losing 1/4-1/2# a week. This has been a very helpful addition to using MFP. It is allowing me to stop and think before I eat. I don't have the absolute zero desire not to eat as some have said. But just being able to…
  • Unfortunately, doctors are notorious for ignoring Free T3 and Free T4 thyroid numbers. Your TSH can be in the "normal" range but few people do well if their TSH is higher then 1.5. But most labs say up to 4.5 or 5.0 is "normal." If I don't keep mine at 1.5 I gain weight like crazy (and really fast!). If I don't keep my FT3…
  • I REALLY want to encourage you to get the book The Beck Diet Solution. It is not a diet. It is cognitive therapy from home for changing your thought patterns around food. It was recommended on this site and I bought it. In just the first chapter I found help and have continued to read it. I really think you all will find…
  • Thanks for the suggestions. It looks like from what you all are saying that I'm basically already doing what I can. I do most of these foods already protein/fat wise. Maybe it's finding the balance between needing to eat higher fat/protein and stay within MFP calories? The higher fat foods are so caloric it really changes…
  • Some people do not hold onto minerals well and this includes sodium. My son is one that has to eat an incredible amount of salt to feel well and stay healthy. If your body needs it, it needs it. Do not worry about weight gain from sodium. Unless you have a clear medical reason for limiting salt, there is no reason to. Salt…
  • 1 calorie! That's perfect. I've been trying to figure this out too. I want to log my exercise for statistics purposes for myself but not have the calories added back in. Thanks, OP, for asking that question!
  • It is *barely* over normal. Given my history, my doctor is thrilled with these numbers. I don't live and die by numbers. I want to be healthy. 7 points over on cholesterol and 4 points over on LDL is not even acknowledged by most doctors b/c it's so close to normal. Additionally, I don't generally care what doctors think,…
  • I highly recommend the book The Beck Diet Solution. She gives concrete things you can do on a daily basis to overcome emotional eating and make new habits. It is basically cognitive behavioral therapy at home. It has been a huge help to me. I got the recommendation off of here and I've been so thankful for it!
  • LOL. Well, they'll be conflict with this one. :-) High cholesterol runs strong and deep in my family. My dad died at age 42 from a heart attack partially as a result of it. So I come by high cholesterol/triglycerides naturally. Ten years ago my total cholesterol was 350, HDL 36, LDL 200. I instituted a high fat diet of…
  • This sounds so much like what I just finished reading in the Beck Solution. Very good book on changing the thoughts to lose weight and keep it off. Someone here recommended it and I highly recommend it as well. I have found it very helpful with the mental game I was playing (which is near identical to what you wrote).
  • Well done.
