  • Just want to say thanks for starting this discussion because I am in a similar position. I'm on my second Fitbit One and it is on its last legs and I also strongly prefer the clip models to the wrist models. I also don't care about heart rate (isn't meaningful for me to track for fitness purposes since I am on carvedilol…
  • Which value in particular was high? I have been a vegetarian for 26 years. About 10 years ago, I had a high overall cholesterol reading, but the main contributor was my triglycerides. The doctor I was seeing at the time recommended stopping refined carbohydrates so I switched to whole grains for everything and my…
  • Standing all day makes my back hurt. We have standing/sitting desks (adjustable) at my office and I've never seen anyone actually standing (there are probably like 75 people working here).
  • I think you need to start using a food scale and making sure you are logging everything, because if you are full on 1300 calories and your maintenance calories are 2133 something doesn't add up. Because you didn't flip a switch and start feeling full on 1300 calories because you decided to try to lose weight.
  • I have found that I have a limit. If I eat more than about 1500 calories in one sitting (and really, it's more like 1400) I just don't feel well. I can basically feel when I am approaching my limit. So, I bank calories throughout the week (200-300 per day) and then when I eat out on Friday (when I don't have time to…
  • I lost 45 pounds a few years back eating like 200g of carbs per day, though I wasn't tracking macros so that's just an estimate. (Gained some back due to abdominal surgery and multiple weeks unable to exercise so if you click my profile the number is <45 but I am still a size 4 and I am good with that.) Anyway, I could…
  • I had a hysterectomy during maintenance and I put on 10 pounds during recovery (not talking about the constant fluids from the IV drip, which took about a week to get out of my system through my kidneys). Still have that 10 pounds, a year and a half later. Not really wanting to go back down to the level of deficit I had…
  • Vegetarian since August of 1993 (I was 15 at the time, never much liked meat growing up so it wasn't hard to give up). Ovo-lacto, no interest in becoming vegan. I have been up and down in weight over much of my adult life, but this site seems to be steering me in the right direction (lost 45 pounds in 2016, gained some…
  • I used to have this problem, not necessarily for sugar but just hunger in general. I fought my way through it and did not go over my calories, but I was miserable the whole time. I have since had a hysterectomy, but still have ovaries, and now I do start to wonder whenever I have cravings and extra hunger if I would've…
  • I see that in European products (which I get in snack subscription boxes) all the time. I don't find it useful either. I even saw it on a spice jar being sold on Amazon once. People were oohing and aahing over the 100% of vitamin C in some red pepper flakes and I'm like "do you know how many jars you would have to eat to…
  • Vegetarian for 25 years, been up and down in weight at least three times. Most recent significant loss was 45 pounds in 2016, which I have mostly kept off (had a hysterectomy at the end of 2017 which led to 7 weeks with little to no exercise, so gained a bit back) simply by counting calories. I pay not one bit of attention…
  • 25.5 years of ovo-lacto for me and also never looked back. I didn't do it to rebel, I really just never liked meat and finally decided I'd had enough. (We were a nonpracticing Protestant household, generally, so there were no particular religious food restrictions.) Never paid much attention to nutrition other than…
  • Nope, that's been banned by Amazon for several years now. (They used to allow it.) I think there might be exceptions for books but that's about it.
  • Does the old dishwasher still work and can it be expected to work (despite making noises, requiring pre-washing, or some other condition) for a little bit longer?
  • I lost 45 pounds in 2016 and my waist didn't shrink as much as my other parts. Come to find out, I had a 16cm fibroid (no other symptoms) causing my abdomen to be somewhat distended. I still have a weird waist-to-hip ratio a year after my hysterectomy, which I think is just my anatomy and skeletal structure, but sometimes…
  • 30 minutes to 1 hour of what? Taking a 30 minute walk or doing 30 minutes of yoga (under 100 calories each for me at 5'5" and slightly under 130 pounds) is quite a bit different from doing, say, a Focus T25 or Insanity workout in terms of calories burned, and there are lots of values for exercises in between, as well.
  • Read the Amazon reviews for the Haribo sugar free gummy bears and you will get the reference.
  • I don't really have any suggestions, but I can sympathize. When I was in my 20s, I tried running as a form of exercise. I got runner's knee so badly during the first week that I could not walk down stairs (up wasn't so bad, but down was murder) for like two weeks afterwards. I tried everything -- varying my shoes, inserts…
  • Honestly I only get about 100 steps per minute even doing kickboxing workouts. Only certain Shaun T. cardio workouts net me more than that. (I have a Fitbit One, which I believe has been discontinued, so it is not one of the wrist models, though.)
  • You don't have to deal with menopause symptoms if you keep your ovaries. I kept mine and I've been fine. During the operation you can't have anxiety as you are not awake! After I was mostly just glad it was over. I also had no complications whatsoever. No clots (in the hospital they had these things they hooked up to my…
  • I had a 16cm fibroid and a 2cm fibroid. I lost 45 pounds with them (but didn't know I had them at the time as they were only causing some vague symptoms like occasional constipation). Went to the doctor for something else and she found a mass in my abdomen (that was the 16cm one!). Ended up going with the hysterectomy,…
  • Kombucha is awful though I haven't had it recently. It was so acidic, though, that I thought the enamel would fall right off my teeth then and there. There are these protein chips called Protes that keep showing up in fitness subscription boxes. They are made from pea protein and most of them taste like spackle with a…
  • I am 40 and lost 45 pounds at age 38 on a lot more than 1400 calories per day (but I was exercising a lot). I've since basically kept it off, give or take a few pounds. MFP's calculations were pretty reliable for me. I even did all right using the values from the exercise database. I lost inches everywhere but maintained a…
  • It's on Pure Cardio, I *think* around the time you are doing mountain climbers. (I do isolated Focus T25 and Insanity workouts when I feel like it, without doing the whole programs. Pure Cardio I do a lot because I find it to be one of the more challenging ones. I always just figured there was some kind of audio delay when…
  • I lost 45 pounds in 2016. I had some loose skin from that (not as much as people who lose more weight, of course). I have been a vegetarian for nearly 25 years and eat a very high carb, relatively low fat and low protein diet. It is now 2018 and I still have some loose skin (have basically maintained my weight loss in that…
  • I had a total abdominal hysterectomy on October 31 (had one 16 cm fibroid and one that was smaller; Dr. said if you have more than one, you can get more in the future, and I didn't want to have another surgery later on, so they took everything but my ovaries; for reference I am 40 and don't have or want kids). I had a…
  • Protein doesn't fill me up at all. (I'm not saying it doesn't work for some people, just not for me.) I find that eating high fiber foods (which are low in calories despite having a lot of physical volume) is better for keeping me full. So if you try one thing and it doesn't keep you satiated, there are other options.…
  • I don't get much of a calorie burn from yoga, but I do enjoy it as a way of maintaining flexibility, getting moving in the morning, and destressing. If a gym membership is not in the cards (and remember some workplaces and apartment complexes have gyms that are free for employee/resident use), the suggestions in this…
  • They are OK for beginners or those who are out of shape or recovering from an injury, but I got bored with them very quickly. Also I found the claimed distances to not match up at all with my Fitbit. I know I am short and if I take the same number of steps as someone who is 6 feet tall, I wouldn't cover the same amount of…
  • I've been vegetarian for 24 years. (I eat eggs, honey, and dairy, and have never been interested in giving them up.) I have been overweight as a vegetarian and I have been a healthy weight as a vegetarian. It's all about CICO. I lost 45 pounds with MFP in 2016, maintained through most of 2017, had an abdominal hysterectomy…
