Don't...have a partner that supports you? That sounds like an issue out of the scope of the deep well of MFP advice....
-
Right?! I'm honestly shocked by the amount of people that seem to think that marriage is like living with a roommate, you deal with your own struggles and they deal with theirs and if you need some help you better figure it out yourself because you wouldn't want to put out your spouse....wouldn't you prefer a partner that…

This is an interesting study which I think highlights the difference in analysis on both sides. From your side, you use this as proof that excess food, for some people, is converted into them using more energy without them even thinking about it, therefore those people must be naturally thinner. However, those who don't…

Well, at least we can all rest easy knowing that you kept your judgment of the lives of others intact through all these trials.

I realized I had no idea how this started too so I followed it back - looks like it went "all calories aren't equal, otherwise everyone would be losing weight" to "people aren't losing weight because they count calories inaccurately" to "counting calories is easy -lots of incorrect calorie counting- and also newbies should…

You've revealed one of your hidden assumptions here - that the failure of newbies is disproportionately related to being overwhelmed by weighing of food. I would say it's far more likely that the failure of newbies is disproportionately related to not being able to eat everything they want in the portions that they want,…

I'm no hypnosis fanatic but I'm totally the person picking recordings over human contact because people suck! :D It's probably more the placebo effect than anything else but getting into that mindset is the difficult part of trying to lose weight so kudos to you for finding a way make it work.

If I lean my weight on the balls of my feet my weight is higher than when I lean back on my heels, which is lower than if I stand straight. Scales are stupid! I agree with using standards to check though, because I'm curious too - do you have anything big and heavy you can test it with? A big bag of rice or flour? Weights?

I wonder if this is a good time to point out that I, the person who set this person off on their wild repeated mental illness accusations, don't actually weigh anything outside of raw meat...because my deficit is high enough that I don't have to worry about a 20% (now that it's been pointed out to me, actually more than…

I've seen people call fasting not even water, and people call fasting eating up to 700 calories a day. That's why I'm asking your definition. What a strange response.
-
@msalicia116, when you say "fasting", what do you mean by it? Even for different kinds of intermittent fasting they have different fasting definitions, so people that are criticizing might not even realize what you're doing and think it's something else.
-
You only need to lose 30 pounds? Don't fast. If you're very overweight, have been overeating for a long time (think years), and don't have much to do, fasting for a few days won't have too much of an effect on you. But if you're anywhere near a healthy weight, have to do anything beyond lay in bed, and don't already have…

For a few of the things I see you measuring on there it looks like you're measuring in tablespoons/cups when you should be using grams - for example, cashews. They're very calorie-dense so measuring 1/4 cup of cashews can leave you off by a large amount. Another common mistake - do you log your strength training/use a…

I think you're right and I misread - and on further reading of the guidelines you and him are both right because the FDA does go by gram measurements in servings, not serving amounts. Thanks for correcting me, that's good to know! Edit: I would say this makes weighing even more important, to reduce the margin of error by…

Frankly, I would splurge on a swimsuit - if you buy something you really love, that's comfortable and fits you well, then you'll be much more likely to want to wear it. Esther Williams makes really popular vintage suits - they look good, fit a wider range of body types well, and aren't string bikinis which make them often…

Yeah definitely, you'd have to go by grams and decide if it's worth the extra calories, if you want all the yogurt, etc. after weighing for sure. Weighing isn't a method to keep in a deficit, just a method to make sure that if you want a deficit you have the tools to get there! :)
-
Honest question - what do you think people who weigh their food do to weigh their food from day to day? What is, in your mind, the way they cook/eat on a daily basis? Preferably with a sample day rather than generic "weigh and measure and weigh and measure". Because I'm fairly certain what you imagine isn't what's actually…

The most I exercise is walking for an hour a few times a week, if that. I just passed the 65 pound mark. My biggest change was to recognize a portion size - especially as I cook large meals and just take however much I want for dinner and then munch all night.
-
So now you're backing out of your "Not 150 calories" claim? 10% or 20% matters. Especially when it's on every item you eat, all day, and especially if you don't have much wiggle room in your calories. Not to mention your other mistakes are not governed by the FDA requirements, so the consequences of them could be…

THIS IS NOT TRUE. Repeat: THIS IS NOT TRUE. Your yogurt is not guaranteed to contain 140 calories. In fact, in the US it can be up to 20% off ("the label is considered to be out of compliance if the nutrient content of a composite of the product is greater than 20% above the value declared on the label", Title 21 of the…

This shows a fundamental misunderstanding of how to count calories though, and frankly throws doubt onto the many points you try to make against CICO, since you've revealed that you don't really understand it. Do you truly think that every single egg is the exactly same weight, down to the grams? Have you looked into the…

Haha I just made them roughly the same size and faded them together on http://ezgif.com/! Took a little tweaking but that's what I do to my own progress photos too ;)
-
A pound and a half won't make any difference in the long run - just pick one and use only that one and you'll be fine :)
-
See I have the reverse - once I ordered a pot pie and it was literally a bowl of thick soup with a piece of toast on top!! I was so mad!
-
I was very overweight when I started so my first progress picture is at 50 pounds - I would say you're suddenly going to see a difference at 35-40 pounds. That being said, there is a difference. Look at your legs and your sides, as well as your upper arms.

Sometimes I do struggle with those perceptions you're talking about - feeling guilty over eating something that seems unhealthy, even if you know it's not. It's not rational or rooted in facts, because I do eat unhealthier things but some things stick in my head, like burgers. Burgers are not bad! I know they're not bad!…

That doesn't sound like any beauty school I've heard of :flushed: Beauty school is like studying to be a plumber or an electrician, not "school" per se but technical training in a particular field. Trust me, the people running the nail salon probably know very little about chemistry and biology :D Anyway I know what it's…

I psychologically am more hungry when I don't move around. I say psychologically because my theory for it is motivation - once I've done some work that day, I feel accomplished, proud of myself, and then like I can totally stick to my plan. If I'm being lazy anyway, I feel worse and get that irrational "what's the point"…

This always makes me wonder about people trying to lose that last 2-3 pounds....I can lose 3 pounds of water weight after a night of drinking! I don't understand how they can have their weight so stable that they can recognize needing to lose such a small amount.
-
Frankly, I know people are very big on "log every morsel" but I don't bother under a certain amount. I'll just weigh the parts that have enough calories to make a difference in my deficit - cheese, meat, dressing, croutons, those kinds of things. Then for the salad I just estimate 150-200 calories for lettuce and call it a…
