  • ^^^^ This.
  • Deficit = good. Wine = good. Wine and deficit = excellent day.
  • You might find some ideas here: http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2009/12/09/beginner-body-weight-workout-burn-fat-build-muscle/
  • The links in this post will help you: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10300331/most-helpful-posts-getting-started-must-reads In short, the number of calories you eat everyday has to be less than the amount your body uses. This is referred to as CICO (calories in, calories out). If you eat at a deficit,…

  • Same for me, but the moment when the CICO formula finally sunk into my thick skull was an eyeopener. Of course, if I didn't like steak and beer so much maybe I wouldn't need cardio to keep me in a deficit!
  • I saw better sleeping patterns and more energy as my first results as well. At two weeks my wife told me I was not snoring as loudly or as much. At fifty days, I am only beginning to see physical changes. If you are sleeping better, your body is likely repairing and restoring itself more efficiently. If you have more…
  • If there were not a beer or two at the end of the day, I would have a hard time convincing myself the extra effort of exercise is worthwhile. Getting to drink while maintaining a deficit and watching the lbs drop slowly? Priceless.

  • ^^^^ This. If you want to gain muscle, that is a different discussion.

  • What every I have brewed recently. Currently have a smoked porter, dry stout, blond, and a braggot in the kegs. All time favorite? Schneider Weisse.
  • Where is the 'like' option? This is great!
  • It could be that your body is not having to work as hard to digest food, so there is less heat generated. I notice this if I miss a meal or fast for a day. A sweatshirt or vest can help, but you will probably adapt in a few weeks.
  • I hate going without and feeling hungry. This ^^^^ explaination - which is all over these forums thanks to ninerbuff and other dedicated posters - was a lightbulb moment for me a few weeks ago. When I started this round of cutting out the weight again, it felt like a roller coaster I could not get off of. Learning this…
  • Welcome! This may help: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10300331/most-helpful-posts-getting-started-must-reads Most of us here understand loving food.
  • ^^^^ This. Other people are not worried about you. They are thinking about themselves. They are worried about their insecurities. This part of why confident people who smile, are kind, and engage with others are more successful. They make people feel better about themselves. If you are a reader, look up a book called "How…
  • Start here: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10300331/most-helpful-posts-getting-started-must-reads Go from there. Log everything - good or bad. Then you will know how to make improvements. Find a way to get moving. You CAN do this. Anyone can, but it requires determination and discipline. The real question…
  • Yes, but the point is that your CO is now greater than CI, not that the cardio actually 'burned fat'. The cardio helps with CICO, but does not target fat in any way. You would get the same result if you ate only 1100 calories and did no cardio. The exercise is allowing you to eat more, that is all. I have no complaint with…

  • ^^^ Good advice. Learn to understand yourself and learn to read menus. Both are skills we are not taught in school - we have to pick them up the hard way. I would add this: think about your food choices in dual terms. Day to day is important, but so is week over week. For example, I know that Saturday and Sunday are days…

  • If you have enough calories in your day, in-shell sunflower seeds are a possibility. The process of getting the seed out of the shell can help get you past a craving. However, you have to be careful because they are very calorically dense.
  • "If Jeff Goldblum told me to get a bowl haircut and rob a bank, I totally would. ... Like, I'm basically a human Play-Doh press. ... It's sort of like the Inquisition, but less fun. ... Pucks of Suffering" I was in tears - thanks for the laugh!
  • Welcome! I had to look up runners toe. I am sorry I did!

  • Fear of failure is normal. Failure is even normal. However, refusing to try, fail, learn along the way, and get better is inexcusable. To paraphrase a wise proverb, "Anything worth doing well is worth doing poorly while you learn to do it well." You have taken the first steps. You signed up for an account here. You know…
  • You have to plan for the expenditure. Like you, I refuse to drink water with alcohol in it. I want real beer. I brew my own, so beer is just a part of my intake. It is not too bad through the week, since exercise offers the opportunity to work off some extra calories. However, the weekends can be a little rough. What is…

  • I cannot use artificial sweeteners - they all taste metallic to me. I also love soda. What works to keep my intake of empty calories down is to make iced tea with minimal sugar. I use Constant Comment, but any good tea will work. I put in 1/3 of a cup of sugar per gallon of tea. This translates into 35 calories per 16 ozs.…
  • I once heard a little maxim that you can get rich by being stingy, but no matter how rich you get you will still be a miser. I think self image and diet follows this same principle. If the negative is what motivates you, what happens when the negative goes away? It is far better to focus on the positive, on the things that…
  • Will be forty in a month. Hope it is okay if I join in here. Same story for me. Two girls and a wife. One daughter and I will eat fish. The other daughter and my wife act like they are being poisoned by the smell of fish cooking. Pleasing everybody just isn't possible some days.
