  • Who told you that about your milk supply dropping when you get hungry? I call nonsense. Hunger is a bodily cue to eat. It's called eating intuitively. Yes, breastfeeding burns lots of calories, so you need to eat more to support your milk supply. But hunger is not an indication of a decreased milk supply. Your milk supply…
  • Looks like everyone is making some good progress this month! All the things have decided to go wrong this month but I'm trying to roll with it and not eat my feelings. My one year old is now going to likely have surprise in-hospital dental surgery under general anesthesia early next month as his condition is rapidly…
  • What did your doctor say? The recommendation is 6 weeks, and perhaps longer with a pelvic floor injury. Remember, even though you feel okay, your body is still undergoing significant healing internally. The site of your placenta is like a big scab on the inside of your uterus, so you want to take it easy and allow it to…
  • People are *kitten*. It still happens to me now even at a normal weight for my height. I have diastasis recti from having five children, so seeing a slim person with a slightly enlarged abdomen seems to be an automatic indicator of pregnancy to idiots. If I'm bloated or not careful about sucking it in, I can't go out in…
  • I honestly don't know about you personally, but I can say that I get headaches when I'm sleep deprived. They don't go away until I get at least 7 hours of sleep. My workouts and recovery suffer when I don't get enough sleep. When I'm eating at a deficit and also trying to be consistent with my workouts, I absolutely have…
  • I promise you that you aren't going to undo anything. Your body is responding appropriately to the demands that are currently being placed on it. Please relax about it. It will be okay. Now is absolutely not the time to worry about restricting or trying to lose weight rapidly. To give you some perspective. I gave birth…
  • Also keep in mind that women gain weight during pregnancy that includes not only the weight of their baby, placenta, extra blood and fluid, and breast growth, but fat stores as well. If you lost weight rapidly enough during your pregnancy that even your growing baby's weight was outpaced on the scale, you don't have the…
  • You are going through MASSIVE hormonal and physical changes right now. Pregnancy and post-partum do not place the same demands on you at all. You did not burn up to 1000 calories a day supporting your pregnancy. Do not try to guesstimate how much breastfeeding is burning right now. It's likely much higher than 500 calories…
  • Also, OP, if you don't have a breastfeeding community around you, work on getting one when you recover. Go to La Leche League Meetings or breastfeeding peer support meetings. It will be extremely helpful for you to understand how normal this is and that nothing is wrong with you. It's not healthy to be restricting like…
  • You can be burning up to 1000 calories a day by breastfeeding alone. If you're hungry, you need to eat. Breastfeeding hunger is a real thing and right now you need to worry about your physical recovery and helping that little baby grow. Don't worry about trying to lose weight right now. You literally just gave birth.…
  • OP, just so we're clear: do not use your food scale to ACTUALLY eat 1000 calories a day. You should be eating the appropriate amount recommended to you by MFP based on your stats. There are many bad things that can happen if you under-eat.
  • I continued with my fifth pregnancy, but with lowered intensity and modifications. What feels okay when you're not pregnant may not feel okay when you are, and it's important to listen to your body and not push yourself. I'm glad I did it. I didn't gain as much weight as my other pregnancies (even though I still gained a…
  • I've been married for a long time. My husband and I live our own lives and we happily overlap. He does a similar workout to mine but we don't workout together and we don't dictate to each other how it's done or what we eat. He knows better than to discourage something that has a positive impact on my life because that…
  • Eating too much never really impacted me, until eventually one day it did. I was okay with being overweight and didn't care what I looked like. Aesthetics weren't enough to motivate me. I had zero incentive to lose weight until it started to influence my health and physical ability to do the things I wanted and needed to…
  • Thank you for this!
  • 5'1" and 129lbs. 36 - 28 - 34 Strength training turned me into an inverted triangle. I have five children.
  • Congrats on your baby! Usually by 8 weeks post-partum, you'll have dropped the majority of your water weight and be cleared for normal activity. Since you're only 4 weeks post-partum, now is not a good time to judge how much weight you'll have to lose so I suggest waiting another 4 weeks before starting. Secondly,…
  • Play outdoors. Go to a soccer field and run around with a ball. Go for walks. Go to the playground and play together. Play is exercise for children, and extra steps and running around are good for you, too. If I'm doing structured exercise, I do it alone at lunch time.
  • I'm 5'1". This is my second time losing weight with MFP after my 5th baby a little over a year ago. I started at 195 and I'm currently 129 with a plan to settle closer to 120. My tips are to figure out how to eat as much as possible and still lose weight. That might mean a smaller deficit and that's okay. Stay active. Eat…
  • Alta HR - pretty spot on for me. It matches up with what I'm currently losing at.
  • It's temporary. You have logging to fall back on for reassurance so you know it's not fat gain. It will eventually drop off. Just keep doing what you're doing.
  • Surpassed my second goal weight! Feels good to be in the home stretch and really see things coming together. Started Strong by Bret this week and got all my workouts in. I think I'm really going to enjoy it as my next program. Height: 5'1" Hw: 195 July goal: 130 Ultimate Gw: Somewhere between 120 and 130 July 4th: 131.0…
  • I finished the advanced workout and started the Strong by Bret workout subscription. The format and rep ranges are similar, and there are additional glute circuits and extra full body workouts that come with three new workouts a month. It is pricey, but I really enjoyed SC and wanted to keep to a similar full body program.
  • I see long-term recomp in my future once I make it to my goal weight. I don't see losing even more weight being the solution because at some point I will just need to work on growing muscle in order to get to where I want to be composition-wise. I have the paper thin loose skin on my lower stomach and it doesn't bother me.…
  • I'm aiming for 120 also! Once you get down to a lower weight you really start to notice what's left but even 10 pounds makes such a huge difference. I have the upper back fat still, too.
  • Welcome! We are pretty similar! I'm 5'1" and started out at 195lbs. I'm down to 130 and my baby is almost 15 months old. I've been breastfeeding for almost 11 years straight with five children (save for a few months during my pregnancies) but this would be the first time I've ever consistantly used it to my advantage for…
  • I don't really care about it. Fluctuations don't bother me and any one day doesn't matter to me. My food logging is on point and my overall weight trend has been downward. I've lost almost 65 pounds in just over a year so taking a relaxed approach is working out fine for me.
  • Almost every morning. There are some mornings that require prioritizing drinking coffee over weighing, so then I just weigh the next day.
  • I'm a nursing mom also to my almost 15 month old :) I recommend starting out by eating at least maintenance calories for your current weight while breastfeeding since it creates a deficit by itself. Since you only have 10 pounds to lose you could even eat above maintenance and aim for a half pound a week (and I recommend…
  • I eat back my exercise calories. I'm currently eating them back in the form of ice cream. Didn't stop me from losing almost 65 pounds.
