Here's a great example of weight loss not being linear and needing to stay the course! It took 20 days to see any significant movement in the scale after switching to a half pound a week. But I waited it out, kept my logging consistent, and hit a normal BMI today. Feeling very proud. I'm switching my full body lifting…

And as far as the exercise - you can't out-exercise too many calories. Trust me, I tried it for years. Don't rely on exercise as a backup plan if you aren't consistent with tracking your food. If you're consistent with logging and stick to your calorie goal, and stay committed to nourishing yourself and not undereating,…

How tall are you? How much weight do you have to lose to get to a normal BMI? The previous posts hit on some important points. Breastfeeding makes you extra hungry because it requires calories from you. If you have less weight to lose (and less fat stores to pull from), too aggressive of a deficit is going to make you…

On average days, 10-12K before exercise. On a busy day if we have an outing of some kind, 15-20K. I'm at home with five children full-time now. I have endless amounts of housework so that helps. It's nice out so I spend a lot of time gardening and playing with my kids and chasing a toddler around. I don't spend much time…

She's going to have to figure it out on her own unfortunately. I had a friend who went on a VLCD of 900 calories a day with some meal replacement program. I believe she was under the care of some quack doctor but I'm not sure. She lost about 70 pounds, but huge amounts of her hair fell out, and eventually she binged on all…

I had a great birthday! My husband decorated and my kids made cards. We went to the farmer's market and then gardened the rest of the day. My husband bought me a bunch of smaller pajamas to replace the too big ones and a gift card to buy some new bras. I've been wearing sports bras since I don't have to worry too much…

I'm team have the dog carry it. A harness or dog backpack. That's what I did with our border collie.

Breastfeeding is going to require energy from you in the form of calories. How many calories that ends up being is going to be entirely unique to you and your baby's nursing habits, but start with the assumption that it's 500 calories. If you eat enough calories to maintain your current weight - 500 calories from…

The collagen supplementation market is unregulated. They're all making wild claims to sell you something. There is no hard scientific evidence to suggest it actually does anything for you, and they're under no obligation to prove that.
-
How exactly do you think collagen would target the structure of the fat below your skin? How would collagen that you ingest and break down travel from your digestive system directly to your cellulite, be reassembled in any meaningful way into human collagen, and target it? If you're eating a balanced diet, you're already…

Having been around here for a while, this is my advice. The "thing" that people insist isn't the unsustainable part of their weight loss plan, is usually the thing that's MOST unsustainable and why they keep failing to lose weight. They like to insist it's something else because reasons I guess. I understand wanting to…

If you couldn't stick to it, then something about that plan was unsustainable. Did you pick too aggressive of a goal and dropped your calories too low for you to stick to? Was the exercise too much, too soon? Was the diet too restrictive? When we try to do too much right from the very start, it tends to be exciting when we…

I'm 5'1" and 140 lbs. was my first goal after losing the biggest chunk of my weight (55 lbs) with the intention of setting smaller goals after. My next goal is 130 lbs. (3 pounds away from that) to get myself into a healthy BMI range, and then find a happy place between 120 and 130 lbs. I think 140 is a good goal to aim…

The amount of water weight you gain from strength training is inconsequential in the long run. You may have some water weight initially and then go up a little after your workouts, but it does drop off and if you're logging accurately and consistently you won't have anything to worry about. The benefits outweigh something…

You will find that this is fairly common because the database is created by other users. Even verified entries can be wrong if the restaurant or manufacturer updates an item, so it's best to double check and then edit or create your own entry with nutritional information from the restaurant.

Still holding steady 133. My plan is a half pound a week from here on out. I was sick last week and now not sleeping well, so my workout recovery has suffered. I also feel I've reached the point where I can't increase weight or intensity for certain lifts anymore without fatigue, so that's a sign that I'm getting close to…

These are my weight loss stats over the last year while breastfeeding. There were two diet breaks in there, and a stomach virus last week that resulted in a two pound loss. The deficit created by breastfeeding is going to be unique to each person, but estimating 500 calories and getting a minimum of 1800 calories is a…

Already starting out at a healthy weight and wanting to lose more is not going to be the same scenario as someone who is obese or overweight at delivery who has a lot more calories to consume every day and still lose. Someone who is already on the low end of the BMI scale would likely end up sacrificing far too many…

I'm 5'1". Highest weight was somewhere between 220-215 about 9 years ago. Currently 133lbs. after losing 62 pounds since my 5th baby was born a little over a year ago. Planning to lose a little more and then enter maintenance and continue recomp. I eat less of the same stuff I've always eaten. No special diet, just plenty…

I don't log gardening and landscaping but I do a lot of it during the spring and summer. I can rack up 15-20,000 steps easily since I have a huge yard, so I just eat the extra calories that MFP gives me from my Fitbit. I also have my account set to active so it all seems to work out fine.

Along with other measures of health, BMI has been helpful for me when trying to pick a goal weight because I had no idea what to aim for. Body composition is also relevant. I've been overweight my entire adult life so I don't even know what a healthy weight looks like. I'm 5'1" and 133 pounds with a BMI of 25.1. The range…

Lately I've been mixing frozen berries with yogurt and sometimes adding a cut up banana. Most of the time I'll have halotop, greek yogurt, or a protein bar after dinner.

The awesome thing about breastfeeding is that you don't have to eat in a deficit while breastfeeding. You probably already know that breastfeeding creates a deficit all by itself, a pretty big one, so as long as you consistently eat at your current maintenance calories or even above for an extended period of time, you'll…

I don't have cheat meals. If I have a special occasion where I know I'll be eating more, I'll save calories for it or eat at maintenance for the day. Either way, I plan for it and log it.

I've been thinking a lot about this discussion since it was posted and really appreciate all of the insight everyone offered. I'm getting really close to maintenance and I've been thinking a lot about how my habits have changed over time and considering all of the advice everyone offered. I wasn't overweight until I left…

You can add me :) I'm a mom to five and I lost weight with MFP after my last two pregnancies. I lost 70 pounds after my fourth was born 4 years ago, then had my surprise fifth baby a little over a year ago and I'm down 62 pounds and counting and at my lowest weight in about 15 years. I hit my highest weight of 215-220…

You can do it! My suggestion would be to start a progressive strength training program now. Don't wait until you hit a certain goal. I started from the very beginning because I knew it took a lot of muscle to carry around the amount of weight I was carrying, and I wanted to keep as much of that muscle as possible both for…

I understand. I've never not been overweight since even before having kids, and the scale just kept going up and up until it started to jeopardize my health, so I understand wanting to return to healthy weight. Breastfeeding can help with that and still allow you to eat a large amount of food which is nice. You can find…

You don't have to focus on weight loss while nursing if you don't want to. Nobody should feel obligated to lose weight while continuing to sustain another life. Eating intuitively and for energy is important, which is why I always recommend eating what makes you feel good and energized and not below your maintenance…
