Feel free to prove what I said is wrong. I'm all ears. Now, if you want to talk about workouts that involve total muscle failure, then there is evidence that light weights to maximum reps can also provide bulk and stimulate muscle protein synthesis while minimizing injuries. However, when you're defining LIGHT, MODERATE…

How to lose fat: CICO. Calories In vs. Calories Out. How to increase muscle mass: Low rep high weight - no more than 8 reps before rest, heaviest weight you can do proper form with. Moderate lifting is good for some bulk and some endurance, heavy is all about bulk and light is all about endurance and carving muscle. 1-8…

Sorry I wasn't clear. What I'm getting at is those numbers are in the middle range, making them a MODERATE strength training workout and not a HEAVY LIFT MUSCLE BULKING WORKOUT. Yes, you should be taxed to finish *any* workout. It means you're doing it right. You should be taxed when doing light reps at the end of it, or…

Well, we're all John Wayne, right? We don't talk about our stress, we don't "share" our feelings with our buddies over poker. We endure. Sometimes we endure too much and yeah...eating our stress away, drinking our stress away, smoking our stress away or even working our stress away (Who here's got a wood shop in the…

There's lots of reasons why that could be - the most common ones are: 1) You're measuring food, not weighing - that can cause major inaccuracies in what you're consuming. 2) Your calorie goals are off. 3) You're working out and the calories burned is being estimated too high by whatever you're using to record it. 4) You're…

No sweets? Wait, what? Oh man, I don't feel so good...I think I'm gonna lay down and take my spare calories and get some M&Ms...

Might sound crazy, but have you ever considered grow your own? Either start your own home garden or spearhead the campaign to start up a community garden where everyone can share in the bounty and the work. That would solve fresh veggies and maybe even fruit. Farmer's markets are great places to barter when you're cash…

No kids for me, but I have been severely injured and unable to workout. However, I continued to eat as if I was... Sadly this means I started off my weight loss journey at 398lbs and my target weight is 200lbs. I managed to knock myself down to 325lbs and got stuck like Pooh in a honey jar. So I joined MFP here and…

Roller Coasters. No seriously. They're engineered to handle 250lbs of person in each chair. AT 250lbs, you can fit in one more or less comfortably. My wife and I are Roller Coaster junkies and haven't been able to have a fix in over 15 years. Yeah...that's some serious motivation right there. The great sex thing is also a…

Then suck it up and get back to it! This is a marathon not a sprint! You're going to want to exercise just so you can "afford" that cheesecake you saw in the store window that we BOTH know you don't have the willpower to avoid! You are going to be depressed when the weight comes off slower than the syrup dribbling off your…

I've been there. What really struck me hard one day was a quote from West Wing's character Leo who said, "I don't want one drink, I want ten drinks. I don't understand people who only have one drink. I don't understand people who leave half a glass of wine on the table. I don't get people who say they've had enough. How…

Losing weight has nothing to do with how often you exercise. It has to do with Calories In vs. Calories Out, or CICO. Use MFP to find out how much you should be eating to lose weight. Measure your food accurately. Record your workouts accurately. I sit for most of the time during the day, so I set my calorie guide to…

BMI is flawed, don't follow it, don't even think about it. *I* am 6'2" and currently weigh 298lbs. According to the BMI (and rightly so) I'm OBESE. I have a buddy who's 5'6" and *lean*. I mean, ripped abs, pects, everything. His body fat is around 17%. But, because muscle weighs more than fat, he's WAY beyond the "average"…

... *Points to where you put 8-10 reps in the range from STRENGTH training to ENDURANCE training* Since it's in the middle by your own standards, I'm gonna say that no, you don't really think 8-10 reps of those weights is heavy, it's moderate. 1-8 reps = heavy. 8-12 reps = moderate. 12-20 reps = light. By your own…

Okay, here's the deal: Everyone prior to this pretty much has it right: You eat less than you burn, you lose weight. PERIOD. CICO works. However, here's a gem of wisdom I've learned for myself...whatever you do, stay as constant as you can. If you *always* eat just before bed, then keep doing so as long as you're eating…

At least you didn't say how do *they* feel...that might have been a little awkward... No, that's not what I originally read...honest. >.>

As a practitioner of Tai Quan Leap, I do not believe in kicks to the pants, but rather...a boot to the head.

I feel your pain - I've lost 27lbs so far and there's really no difference anyone can easily see and although I have to cinch my belt tighter, I've *almost* lost a pant size...but not quite. I started off at 325lbs so I still have a long ways to go, but I don't mind that others haven't noticed yet. *I* have noticed that…

Saggy/flabby skin has to do with skin elasticity, not muscle tone. Toning your muscles doesn't change your skin's elasticity. In fact it will do nothing, except give you something to do while you wait for your skin to respond. However, that being said, are you sure it *is* loose skin only? I would refer you to This article…

Well shucks, thanks CJ. The biggest thing I learned on changing my eating habits was something I knew a long time ago and forgot along the way - get the protein in you first, then fiber (veggies) then everything else. That helped me to not feel exhausted every time I tried to do anything. Any day I fail to stay under my…

Nice SGB...you go girl.

Make. Your. Own. Pick a powder, get a liquid multi-vitamin, find some frozen fruit (for flavor, half a serving is plenty) and add milk or ice + water, your choice. I've tried EAS Lean15 Vanilla Creme which has an excellent flavor. Other than that, I've stuck with mainly no flavor added, non-GMO soy powders.

I've got another 98lbs to go, feel free to add me.

Hehehe! Okay, so - I'll be 48 this year, I started off at 398lbs at my worst (several years ago) and struggled like mad to get down to 325lbs on my own. Took a few years. 12 weeks ago, I started using MFP's simple and smart CICO program. Today was my official weigh-in....drum-roll please...298lbs! I've lost 27lbs in 12…
