I lost 62 pounds last year with combined calorie counting, no sugar and 16/8 intermittent fasting. Would I have lost as much with just the calorie counting? Maybe, but I've done that in the past and not lost quite as much. To get back to your question, no you don't have to work-out if the very idea of it makes you want to…

Merry Christmas! I've been tracking this past 15 months and lost a little over 50 pounds. I'm coming off a sugar binge and the resulting regain, but still tracking and hoping to lose the last 10 to 20 pounds during 2019.

I love this thread! You're so beautiful, CricketKate! Just for today, I'll try to eat the right amount of calories. I won't try to make up for the overeating I've done all week, I'll just try to hit that line on the nose. Just once, just for today.

I've lost 52 lbs , going from 212 to 160 and not one person, friend or relative, has commented. I think some people have decided that it's bad form to mention a person's weight.

1. Huge salad topped with drained 5oz can of salmon and ranch dressing. 2. Peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat and an apple. 3. Soup, salad and sandwich; (usually tomato or veg soup, small garden salad and tuna or cheese sandwich)

I lost a pound a week during the past year without exercise and I'm sure you easily can, too. Still, as an older person who walks with a cane, I envy anyone who is young and able enough to exercise. When I was younger and trying to lose weight, I loved running and dance classes because they were things I could do off…

I weigh and update on MFP once a month. I only lose about a pound a week and I tend to get discouraged if there's no change, so weighing once a month ensures that I'll see a loss of three or four pounds. Weighing monthly also takes care of the cycles of water retention that discourage some women.

You look fabulous in that picture. I had an hour glass figure like you have (only not as good) when I was young, but now that I'm getting older my weight has shifted so that most of the excess is in the waist area and I'm losing my rear. We oldies call that, "all belly, no butt syndrome." Take that body of yours to the…

Thank you, that's so interesting! I just realized that's the thing that's working for me about the 6/18 timed fasting I've been doing this past year. I know I would probably be losing at about the same rate if I spread my calories over the whole day, but knowing I can't have anything at all after 6 P.M has taken that…

A little different point but I wish my friends, family and co-workers would learn to just say "No, thank you," to the servers who ask if anyone wants dessert. They're busy! They don't have time to listen to your explanation of the diet you're on, or why you aren't hungry, or the gastroesophageal reflux disease that would…

I am beyond impressed! First that you lost 180 pounds, and second that you braved the surgery. Your tummy looks fantastic now -- who knew they could make such a fine looking belly button?!

Liquids. I like to chew my calories, so I drink only water and black coffee.

I'm not trying to argue at all. I posted some current links about IF on a thread about IF. I thought they were interesting and pertinent to the topic. Who is this "we," you keep referring to? Are you a moderator and are you speaking for board policy? If so, I wonder why some opinions require cited sources while other…

What narrative are you accusing me of cherry picking for, Anvilhead? I've said repeatedly that I provided links of studies because people were complaining that no links were provided other than that of some doctor I never heard of who was being called a quack. I didn't say that the studies proved one theory or another. I…

If I were a judge I'd throw out your strawman arguments that assume I'm saying IF is the answer to all weight problems. Someone above on this thread called IF nonsense. Another person above on this thread complained that the link provided by the OP wasn't done by a reputable source. A a response, I provided links of…

Human study This is early days to expect huge controlled studies, but enough serious university research programs are interested in this to make it seem like it's probably not total "nonsense," as some here like to insist. It's easy to call time restricted fasting a fad, but calorie counting was considered a fad when it…

Fasting study and Circadian rhythm study. Several reputable medical research facilities have done studies showing various benefits of intermittent fasting.

I'm sorry, I don't understand what's irresponsible about mentioning ongoing studies that are discussed on cancer websites all over the internet? Just google on "fasting and cancer," and you'll find serious medical sites talking about it. I made sure to qualify my statement by saying the studies are still ongoing and I…

I agree! In some cases oil can add far too many calories, but if someone has eliminated almost all good* fat from their diet, adding in 120 calories of oil might be worth the extra calories. It can help by making the vitamins they do consume more absorbable. *Most of the nutrition science you read right now points to…

New studies are going on as to whether or not IF can reduce cancer risk and boost the immune system, but early results are promising in those areas and suggest it is beneficial in many other small ways. Just on a personal level -- I love it! I've been doing it for ten months and although the 45 pounds I've lost may all be…

You might try adding a little more oil to your diet.

I read the book, and loved it, when it first came out and I'm enjoying the series now. I don't agree with every aspect, but the overall commentary on how much we women are judged by our appearance and our own complicity in this, was certainly mind expanding.

People will do whatever they want with their bodies, gain 500 lbs, crash diet, everything in between. My only problem with this sort of thing is that we're letting other people judge us by a standard they call "fitness," but most doctors would call unhealthy. Cardio and some weight training is fine, but women need a…

Go to your "home page," click on the tiny scale that is pictured just under your avatar picture and "change today's weight." It's not the same as changing your goal weight. Good work losing that 25lbs!
-
See what happens when you just read the bold parts and not the what's in between?

Wow, MadisonMoll, thank you so much for doing all that for me! I've already copied it to keep, it's such great information! Off to do some research on that breakfast thing -- it's going to put an end to my intermittent fasting I think. Thankyouthankyouthankyou!

Thanks, Gamliela! :)

I think maybe what you've learned is how to tell other people they're wrong because you expect everyone to be just like you. I have never, ever, eaten after my child or my husband, or been a between meal nibbler, I don't even taste food when I cook, I just follow the recipe. And I've already stated that I don't track…

It's interesting how everyone assumes that mistakes in calorie addition always result in people eating more calories than they record, why wouldn't it sometimes result in eating less calories than recorded? Some people are even assuming that a woman's doctor believes that, without knowing the woman or the doctor. Why so…

So long as we're being condescending as well as patronizing let me make it even simpler for you. We eat out every day. We eat inside the restaurant. I am not going to take my scale to the restaurant with me, I am going to take the restaurant at their word so far as the calories in their food as listed on MFP. At home, I…
