Complaining about Weight Watchers? I'm in! People keep telling me I should join, but besides the inconvenient meeting hours, I just don't like any of their plans. They say their plans are so simple and convenient but they really aren't. I've tried going through my Chinese buffet, counting various points in my head and it's…

I'm in, 279270! I lost exactly 21 pounds during the last 4 months, so I think it's entirely do-able for you and me to lose 21lbs from now until June.

I've been doing "intermittent" fasting for four month now and love it. Not the 5:2 kind but the kind that can be called "skipping breakfast." I don't eat anything after 6 in the evening until noon the next day. Black coffee in the morning is the only exception.

I've never had a doctor mention my body fat at all. In fact I've never had one measure it. BMI is usually enough for them to tell if you are in the dangerously obese area, even "overweight," is not really medically dangerous and most doctors aren't at all interested in our body fat percentages. Once, back in the day when I…

Just my opinion and we're all different, but I would guess that it's the sugar that is sabotaging your will-power. When we eat foods high in sugar it causes our insulin levels to rise. The insulin comes out to handle the sugar and then excess insulin stays in our blood stream for awhile looking for more sugar, making us…

As you just said, everyone is different, some people are like you and like to "play with," a concept while others may find that if they start playing with a concept, pretty soon they've played it into an intermittent fasting plan where they fast for two minutes between donuts. Or is that just me? ;) I do better with a few…

I did it for the last two months and lost 12 pounds which is more than I lost the last few times I just counted calories. There is some evidence that giving yourself a longer period of time without any calories, encourages your body to go to fat stores for energy. My plan is the 6/18 thing. I stop eating at 6 every evening…

It gets a bit harder when you eat out because you can't take your scales with you -- Or can you? ;) That's why I prefer eating at big chain restaurants because they usually have all their calories already logged on My Fitness Pal. Just enter something like Arby's French Dip and Swiss sandwich and, because they weigh the…

It's fabulous that you're doing so well when you have the added difficulty of medications. 160 lbs sounds like an "ideal," weight for you, but you will be below the dangerous "obese," range long before that. 185 lbs might be a good comfortable weight for you, long term.

Since many of us tend to gain a few pounds, every year, during the holidays -- and never lose it -- I've been going the other way. I've decided not to make the holidays about what I'm going to eat, but about friends and relatives. I'm usually the one doing the decorating, cooking and clean-up for my family, so it's sort of…

I think 1200 calories a day should put you at your goal by November. When I go that low I usually lose 10 pounds the first month and thereafter, about a pound and a half a week. So say you lose ten in August and five pounds each in September and October, plus a few pounds in July and November, I'll bet you could be down 25…

Bumping this up because I think this post is so helpful, for all of us.

A few times, after my eating had been out of control for several months, I have managed to break the pattern of overeating with a three day fast. When I fast it's a true, water only fast. It does wonders for me in several ways, it breaks the bad habits, it addresses my fear of hunger, it rests my mind from food choices and…

I smoked for 25 years, but I jumped rope for 21 minutes a day during that time so I think that kept my lung capacity pretty good. I didn't feel bad when I smoked and didn't feel physically bad at any time after I quit. The mental stuff was hard, cravings and some depression during the first year. About twenty years after I…

Long ago dieticians set the 1200 per day minimum, because they thought it would be nearly impossible to get the necessary nutritional needs on anything less. That was in the 1950's when meeting the "four basic food groups," was a big thing so women were expected to drink 2 glasses of milk per day, eat five servings of…

Good for you! According to the science journalist who wrote "The Happiness Project," people come in two types where this sort of thing comes in. Abstainers and Moderators. The people who do well with moderation, are the people who can eat one bite of chocolate. They save a few calories for a small desert each evening, they…

Okay. Now I'm not just fat, I'm crazy. I can see the robot square on my page on your post above, but when I click on the link from my computer there is no robot square.

myfitnesspal.com/blog/AbstemiousMe/new See if you can link it with this.

I'm on the website and there is no robot question.

I've scrolled as far down as my screen will go. The only things under "save" are some faint words about copyright printed into the background.

Me too, Olyamhc. Maybe it's something that will get fixed in a few days. Mine used to stick, when I was posting regularly a few months ago.

Please add me. I just watched the Gray Taubes hour long talk on Youtube about why we are fat and I'm completely psyched to cut carbs drastically.

Thank you so much, cute little terrier! I'll give it a try.

The only time I ever had really bad gas was when I was eating lots of sugar free sweets -- particularly sugar free ice cream.

I have noticed that, for me,t nothing sets off a growling concert faster than eating a breath mint of chewing gum. I think it just takes a lot of stomach acid and activity to work those items through. I once ate a breath mint in church, and boy was I sorry. Hunger is something I just expect when I'm on a diet. I remind…

I didn't try to lose weight while breast feeding because I came home from the hospital at 118. Even so, I was down to 103 in two months. I've heard the baby takes as much as 1000 extra calories and mine seemed to. He fed every two or three hours around the clock so I was exhausted. It's no time to be hungry! Good luck and…

Thanks everyone!

When I quit smoking I gained 80 pounds in six months, going from 125 to 205. My own brother didn't recognize me. I was eating more, but not that much more and I had actually upped my exercise by adding one hour of daily walking to my usual work-out routine. Don't insult people by insisting that they're not being honest in…

A few years ago I broke my leg in two places, femur and tibia. The doctor told me to eat lots of protein to help the healing. To tell the truth, I ate cheeseburgers and anything else I wanted while sitting in a wheelchair all day and still lost weight. Healing bone requires many more calories than we usually burn. Have fun…

Sad. Even in those days they didn't know the difference between lose and loose. :)
