  • 3/1-3/7: Very bad, lots of drinks 3/8: AF 3/9: AF 3/10: AF 3/11: AF Woooooo Mon-Thurs AF done. We're making lamb tonight so there's most like a glass of pinot noir in my future, but I don't have the calories for more than one glass. I have a very concrete weight goal to hit by April 1, and I won't get there if I don't…
  • 3/1-3/7: Very bad, lots of drinks 3/8: AF 3/9: AF 3/10: AF Made a 9 hour trip to get my Covid vaccine today. Husband opened some wine with dinner. I turned it down. I am so happy he asked me instead of just pouring me some, and it was effortless to say no. 8 months ago I probably would have enthusiastically taken it. 6…
  • 3/1-3/7: Very bad, lots of drinks 3/8: AF I've had a couple of "normal person" days in a row that involve running errands, PT/walks, cooking dinner, doing small chores, getting a decent night of sleep, and doing it all without being in a lot of pain or feeling like I need a long rest. Went from the green to the blue bands…
  • Hey guys, glad to see you all still here, having your successes. I got to start off March with a week of 11 hour days in the office for physical inventory - the kind of close-quarters, not-urgent activity we're not supposed to be doing during a pandemic while corporate still has WFH orders issued. I am still deeply…
  • You're usually so right about everything, Lemur. I'm sad to see you be so wrong about this :'( We might have to take this to the Debate section.
  • You're new! It takes time to learn all this, and even more time to really understand and apply it. The basics: -Calories are king. Eat less than you burn and you'll lose weight. -Logging accurately and honestly is very important to make sure you're eating less than you burn. -Macros are carbs, protein, and fat. You do want…
  • Week 1: 6.5 drinks, 3 AF days Week 2: 5 drinks, 4 AF days Week 3: 11 drinks, 3 AF days 2/22 - AF 2/23 - AF 2/24 - AF 2/25 - AF Even if I drink for the next 3 days, which I probably will for husband's birthday weekend, I've officially done half of February alcohol-free! That wasn't a specific goal this month, but it's…
  • This x1000 :D
  • What works for you is going to be trial and error to find what suits your personality and what you can do without getting frustrated or burned out, but here's my tips: -Yes, you need a food scale. You have no idea how much you're really eating until you're measuring out portions. You might get good enough at eyeballing…
  • Got a couple more AF days in, and don't have calories for drinks tonight. Trying to settle into an AF M-Th pattern. Week 1: 6.5 drinks, 3 AF days Week 2: 5 drinks, 4 AF days Week 3: 11 drinks, 3 AF days 2/22 - AF 2/23 - AF My friend called me and asked me to be a groomsperson in his wedding last night. I of course said yes…
  • My tip: read the “Most Helpful Posts” under the General section, and if you have questions after that, ask them. Motivation waxes and wanes. Fitness buddies come and go. But knowledge about how our bodies work and what behaviors bring success can’t be taken away from you. Applying that knowledge is what gets you to your…
  • You didn’t mention your age or sex, and you don’t say if you’re sedentary apart from your occasional exercise. I’m not assuming anything, but I’m going to throw out a hypothetical situation for a 45 year old, sedentary female to explain why someone might not see weight loss. The TDEE of sedentary 45F is ~1530 calories. If…
  • @CMB44512 Just 10 beers in one week! You used to go through that in 2 days! Congratulations, keep it up! @Lilylady3k Hang in there. This past week has been really hard. Not just on what we might have been personally experiencing, but also checking in on our friends and family. And for what it's worth, that weight on the…
  • We got our water back on late Friday night. The plumbers only found 6 (of 72) units with issues and were able to cap them off then and there. Saturday the snow melted, and on Sunday the only evidence of snowmaggedon was my dead plants and husband's amp that got fried from the power cycling. After taking a shower in my own…
  • Oh definitely. My calorie range is 1200-1500, trying to average 1350, and Saturday is maintenance (~1800). Protein is 70 some days, 100 other days, but averages out to mid 80s over the week. Trying to be really precise every single day is stressful, and going with weekly averages has never hurt my weight loss.
  • Here checking in, also trapped in Texas Snowmaggedon, in full-on survival mode right now. We lost power Monday, and there was a bit over-consuming of wine to stay warm since we have electric everything and had no way to make tea. It was 43 F in here. The roads were clear enough for us to go to SIL's house the next day and…
  • A family friend in med school stayed with me one summer because she had some special training in my city. I barely saw her. When she wasn't in class, she was finding matches on Tinder who would take her out to eat. In three months, she never used the kitchen to make a meal. She figured she was young, single, in debt, and…
  • @Lilylady3k I recognize a couple of those cheeses, but some are new to me! Dairymaids is on my list the next time I'm in the Houston area. We go to the Dallas equivalent here frequently, but I'm pretty excited to see they carry some different things.
  • Feb 1-7: 6.5 drinks Feb 8: AF Feb 9: AF Feb 10: AF So... I am generally not doing well. I've taken one step forward and two steps back in surgery recovery, I'm miserably hungry, I'm getting about 4 hours of sleep a night, and I'm so cold all the time. And then there's little things, like I'm playing one of those dumb…
  • Catching up in here and saw this. First off, I can honestly say that out of everyone I've gone to bars with who didn't drink alcohol, only one of them was a (known) alcoholic. The others: -Avoid alcohol for religious reasons -Choose to not drink because of bad experiences with an alcoholic or are in the medical field -Are…
  • Saturday night in our house is almost always takeout night. Husband asked me what I wanted, and after some back and forth we settled on fajitas. My logic: lean grilled meat + grilled veggies, a bit of avocado, skip the tortillas = fairly healthy dinner! Reality: he also ordered pupusas, the meal came with chips, and he…
  • Thanks for checking in! Its been OK, there were no life-threatening complications or infection or anything dramatic. I was originally supposed to have two artificial discs put in, but when they got in there they discovered my spine was too small at the lower level, so I have a hybrid disc + fusion now. The recovery for…
  • Ok guys, scientific misinformation anywhere drives me bonkers, and I'm seeing a game of telephone happening in this thread where "Your body processes alcohol first" starting to warp into "If you drink alcohol your calorie deficit doesn't matter, your day is ruined." That's not how this works. THIS IS SUPER OVERSIMPLIFIED:…
  • AF last night. I had to get behind the wheel of a car for 3 errands yesterday, and the last time involved sitting in traffic. Driving has always been a great way to flare my back up, and I guess I’m still healing (or surgery didn’t really work :# ). Anyway, had to take a painkiller, so no drinks for me. 2/1 - AF 2/2 - AF…
  • Had a glass of wine with dinner last night. The recipes tonight and tomorrow each call for a bit of wine, so we opened one bottle of white to cover both of them. I wasn't up for cooking, and I'm not sure what husband opened - dry riesling, maybe? - but it was a lot sweeter than I was in the mood for and I kind of regret…
  • @lmlmrn No problem! I'm always here to do math :p @CMB44512 OK since I missed Dec and Jan, I admit I just went back and stalked you a bit. I am cheering for you SO HARD. YOU CAN DO THIS. You don't want to end up like your mom, you want to be there for your GF and future family, you want to take care of yourself. But also,…
  • I can't predict exactly what will happen with your body, but you're really hungry and have no energy. Even if you gain 5 lbs of pure fat, I think it would be worth it to feel a little better and give you the energy to get quality workouts in. Like... you can always cut again if you have to. I know that's a depressing…
  • It sounds like you need a structured workout program that involves progressive overload. This, of course, would be better if you can get some weights to work with, but if you're stuck with bodyweight exercises, there's options out there like You Are Your Own Gym or a multi-week, progression-based program like this:…
  • At home, almost every meal I cook has four servings. Two served up for dinner for me and husband that night, two for lunch tomorrow. If I go back for seconds, I don't get lunch. I want lunch. We also meal plan, only buy what we need for the week, and don't stock very many "snacks" or "basics" - there's no whipping up a…
  • A serving of 40% hard alcohol is 1.5 oz, or 3 tbsp. A serving of bitters at 47% would be 1.275 oz. You're having about 2/5 of a drink if you're having a tablespoon of 47% bitters.
