Some restaurants add things to the eggs -- I think IHOP used to add a little pancake batter -- to make them thicker. Does the entry for Village Inn add hashbrowns to the entry (numbers for the whole meal, not just the omelet)?

Oh BOY do I understand this. I enjoy cooking, I love baking, and I just like food. My first reason for eating at a restaurant is to try something I can't or don't know how to cook at home. Often those new dishes are the ultra-delicious, hyper-palatable ones that set the bar too high and make me dissatisfied with the usual…

Realized I also didn't give thanks where it's due. Anubis, I really appreciate hearing it all spelled out by someone who knows what he's talking about. You do that so often, and even when I don't entirely grok the science and terminology, it's good to know that does actually make sense to someone smart. Thanks.

I give myself very good advice, but I very seldom follow it (said Alice). I really do know from experience that the simpler I eat, the better my success, and the more protein (within reason), the better – but I keep wanting to elaborate on that. I read the forums and keep seeing, “eat what you like, but in the right…

OMG I'm laughing so hard I'm wheezing, and the dogs are standing on my lap, licking my face, wondering what's wrong. Thank you, I needed this!

Pineapple, canned (in juice) or fresh. OMG. Smoky, sweet, tangy.

You're 5'10", and you want to weigh 141 lbs? First, that's probably an unhealthy weight for your height. Second, the last 5-10 lbs of that is going to take a looooooonnnnnnng time to come off. What others have told you here is a good idea -- look seriously into recomp.

Me three, as to the holiday diet break. It's been -- and is being -- a real fight to stay within calories, and I don't always succeed. I get seriously hungry around midday some days, and my regular lunches just don't seem to cut it. And I'm craving more carbs -- semi-sweet, peanut-buttery carbs. I know I can get on top of…

I used to be a regular right-after-coffee daily goer. Over the past couple of months, though, it's gone down to every 3-4 days. Not only that it's been little rocks, or what the geologists might call conglomerate. And while it's not uncomfortable in the in-between times, the passing of them has been rather unpleasant.…

I'm afraid this is a question you'll have to answer for yourself. Everyone's different; some of us stay un-hungry longer with protein and fat, others with a more carb-heavy balance. Some of us do just fine with a protein shake for breakfast, some need solid food. And everyone's meal timing is a little different. Give the…

Shrimp stir-fry on jasmine rice. Iced tea. One carefully-hoarded lebkuchen from Christmas for dessert. Yummers.

There's just 4 grams of sugar difference per cup between the two (8 for soy, 12 for dairy). If you prefer dairy milk, go ahead and have it! I'm diabetic myself and we keep 2% in our house. Recently my doctor cut my metformin dose in half, and my BG's doing so well that I'll soon be off it. I'm able to do this because I eat…

I've done the "don't keep it in the house" thing for years, but when the cravings get out of hand, I will by golly get in the car and go buy whatever it is that's taking up space in my head. It's taken a very long time to get here, but I've finally figured out that when I plan a small serving of that thing and can look…

I drink diet soda daily. I use splenda in my coffee, too. I've lost 89 lbs in a year. I have no brain fog, no sugar cravings, no issues. Artificial sweeteners are not evil, unless you have a particular medical reason to avoid them.

Whole avocadoes. With skin AND pits.

Same here. Except two dogs (who don't walk well together) at 8 AM and two walks. But quiet and not windy, and I actually enjoyed the walks. Not a bad way to start a new year, even at these temps.

When you're starting out, macros really don't make a lot of difference, unless you have some medical reason to restrict one or another of them. Stick to your calorie recommendation to start with. Having said that, after a few weeks of logging you might find that you are more comfortable with more protein, or maybe more…

Apparently we need to eat pieces of pie in even-number increments. Piece one, retain calories; piece two, release calories. So whatever you do, have another slice of pie!

If you're looking to make friends, good manners really make a difference.

Just one day. All you have to do is plan one day. 24 hours is ambitious enough when we're getting started.

If 150 lbs to lose is obscene, then there's a whole lot of us lowering the tone around here. It can be done, and you can do it. Welcome in!
-
Congratulations! What a wonderful reason for a diet break!

Becoming clear to whom? I honestly want to know how anybody proves that our ancestors ate only one meal a day.

Oh goodie -- zombie thread AND spam. All we need now is ACV for the morning trifecta.

This is one place where there is no hard answer, because there are so many variables. Start by eating half your exercise calories for a few weeks, logging carefully, and see what your progress has been. Then tweak to suit.

Those breakfasts sound pretty good to me. Do you like them? do they fit your calories/macros? do you feel satisfied and un-hungry till lunchtime? If so, then you're on the right track. By the way, what are German bread and Russian bread made with?

Looks like you know everything you need to know about nutrition, fitness and parasites. When will you be hosting an AMA?

This year I confirmed for myself that setting a time limit on a weight goal will backfire. Even if I make a mini-goal, I get so very overwrought about will-I-get-there-on-time that it's not worth the angst. What I really wanted for this year was to get off metformin. My most recent bloodwork was very good and my dosage has…

I love this, it's perfect! Thank you!

I've been doing laps in the pool before and after my aqua aerobics class for the past couple of months. Yesterday I did my nine "before" laps and stretched out in the water to wait for the instructor to arrive. I noticed that my legs no longer float to the surface of the water but sink down to the bottom. (The pool is just…
