  • Nothing wrong with your definition of "self treatment"; it sounds very sane and well-considered. Unfortunately a great many people have the mindset of "more is better", decide that early-morning fuzziness before coffee is actually that brain fog, and get a little crazy with the supplementing -- which frequently leads to…
  • For weight loss, the bottom line is that the calories you burn must be more than the calories you eat (CICO). Keto is a tool you can use for weight loss, if it suits you and your health. It's not magic, it's not guaranteed, and for many people it's not sustainable in the long run. That doesn't mean it's useless. You may…
  • As much as you want, as long as it fits your calories/macros. And as long as it doesn't crowd out other important nutrients.
  • And if you need more than one week to get comfortable with a 5% or 10% change, then give it two weeks. There's no time deadline, and you want these to be changes you can live with. Best of luck!
  • You should be aware that MFP counts all sugars, not just added sugar such as in baked goods, cereals and coffee drinks. If you absolutely need to know every mcg of any form of sugar found in all fruits and vegetables then that's what will be reported. If you're more interested in the amounts of sugar added to other foods,…
  • I wouldn't count on that, if I were you. MFP didn't update for me, and I kept the same calories for a few months. Not until my weight loss stalled did I think to refigure my numbers, and then it was a few hundred calorie drop. (We were not amused.) Re-calculate your numbers every 5 lbs/2.5 kg and save yourself the trauma.
  • We're so trained to expect hunger and deprivation when we try to lose weight! If it doesn't hurt, it must not be working, amiright? It's hugely liberating when we finally realize that no, this doesn't have to be miserable. There's a certain comfort in knowing what The Rules are, though, and I still find myself wanting to…
  • You've had some terrific advice here, and I think your attitude is even terrific-er. Let me also put in a vote for the Libra app or HappyScale or Trendweight to help you see how your weight loss is going over time, and to put the little blips of everyday weighing in their place. It's wonderful not to get hung up on the…
  • Probably okay for the first week -- it'll mostly be water weight. Not so great for the long haul, though. Look into variety if you want to make this a real attitude change. Beef, pork, peanut butter, real milk, eggs and whole grains are all your friends.
  • Why no carbs or sugar?
  • Because people who follow those ridiculous protocols never get to maintenance in the first place.
  • I think I'd start to dislike bananas in a big hurry with that.
  • You're far from stupid. All of us have had to learn the lesson that dieting isn't the be-all and end-all -- life is, and making a good and healthy life for ourselves and our families is. I admit to being remarkably thick on this lesson! The road doesn't end at goal weight. Keep going, even if the road has to loop around a…
  • You lost me when you quoted FoodBabe.
  • The OP appears to be trolling -- or better yet, chumming. Throw a piece of meat into the right waters and you get a frenzy of sharks. I also note that the OP has been posting woo for two days now and doesn't respond to any comments or questions. Probably not going to, either.
  • Absolutely talk to your doctor before you decide what to do! She'll probably recommend keeping your protein up, lots of green veggies and whole grains, water, sunlight and exercise -- but you'll need to keep her in the loop about what your plan is. And congratulations!
  • There's nothing wrong with diet soda. Unless you personally have an issue -- if it triggers cravings or if the sweeteners taste terrible to you -- then go ahead and drink it. ETA: Water's good too. Drink what you like and log it.
  • Keto is not magic, and doesn't work for everyone -- and I speak as a (relatively) low carber. If you feel the need to try it, go ahead, but as with every other way of eating, be prepared to tweak to suit you personally.
  • Since June of 2016 I've lost 75 lbs, and I have about that much left to go. I've also lowered my A1c from 7.9 to 5.4 and I'm out of diabetic range, which is even more exciting for me. As so many other posters have said, this is a simple process but that doesn't make it easy. It's tempting to make it more complicated than…
  • This. Also the one about not buying the candy two weeks before. I buy it on the day of October 31, or whatever day trick-or-treating is scheduled for our neighborhood.
  • Rats. I got a wholly different idea of this thread from the header.
  • Team Diet Mountain Dew!
  • Keto isn't magic, and it doesn't work for everyone. How do you feel? Do you feel hungry a lot of the time, or does the amount of protein/fat in your macros hold off hunger for a long time? Many people find that a higher level of carbs does the trick for them. You'll need to experiment a bit to find the levels that are best…
  • I don't pay for many websites, but I do pay for access to the ATK sites, and I'll probably go on renewing. It's rare that I fail with any of their recipes, and I've learned some great techniques as well.
  • It's a long journey, but we're all on our own long journeys no matter how much weight we have to lose. Welcome to MFP, @doconnor91 and @ndonele and everyone!
  • I DVR both ATK and Cook's Country and bingewatch them every now and then. I have a good three dozen of their recipes in rotation -- their White Chicken Chili is to die for.
  • So -- the baked pumpkin pudding is borrowed (and barely tweaked) from the Smitten Kitchen website. She's a bit chatty in her posts, so here's the recipe straight up, with my tweaks noted. Pumpkin and Sour Cream Puddings Yield: 7 to 8 half-cup puddings (or four one-cup puddings, which is how I do it) Pudding 1 3/4 cups…
  • I'll post it as soon as I get home. Probably this evening.
  • I have a baked pumpkin pudding recipe that I love and make for dessert every couple of weeks. Tastes like the pie, but without the crust. Yummers.
  • Or just "sitting cross-legged".
