As someone in a similar-ish position, I doubt you'll be able to do the running for at least three days after starting the SL5x5 squats. I know I struggled!!! Found it really easy at the time, but that deep squatting uses parts of the muscles running doesn't touch. I did a social half-marathon distance run yesterday, and…

I almost always run on empty. Though doing 14 miles yesterday on not much more than a bowl of cereal 6 hours previously became challenging on the legs. Managed it, and then ate the quantity of food you usually only see in cartoons...

Thanks for the great reply - much appreciated!

You'll certainly never be the fastest, but at 30 minutes you'll not be the slowest either. 30 is respectable. Not competitive, but respectable. Better to run 30 than not to run at all. FWIW, I started out around 30 minutes, but persistence has got me down to ~24 minutes. However, I'm far from a good runner, with no natural…

Well, the weight is neither here nor there, it's the body fat, strength and fitness that matter. I think it probably is time to ease off on the cardio though, as I'm possibly close to the stage where I'll see more visible changes by increasing lean mass than losing more body fat (though I could do with doing this too)....

No - haven't. Tell me more :)

If I've been sweating (say, after a run) I take the HR off, wet a facecloth, wring it out until it's just damp, and wipe the HR down. I then dry it using a dry part of the facecloth. Seems to work for me, and I've had no problems. Though I have nipped my skin a few times due to the lousy plastic strap...

Oh yeah, and MFP app synchronisation is flaky. I know it's MFP and not the Fitbit app (as I can verify that the data's in the cloud based on the Fitbit website). However, 99% of the time it eventually figures it out...

I find that the Fitbit Charge HR I use does occasionally get a bit confused. Today, it over-recorded the number of flights of stairs I apparently took (by a factor of 2) but this is the worst mistake it has made in the 3 months I've had it. I did forget to remove it whilst hammering in a post one weekend, and it…

Weekends are a bit ad hoc, but through the week I currently: Wake at 0530 for a 7K run Catch an 0700 train (with a bit of walking at the other end to/from the office) Make a point of using the loos in the basement through the day (I'm on floor 2) Do a 4-6K walk in my lunch hour In the evenings, either take a 5-8K walk with…

Thanks folks, that helps. BTW, I have my activity level set to sedentary (as, if I didn't do the exercise, my desk job would fall into that category) and I have negative adjustments activated. Also, I made a small mistake - my balance of -3447 KCal was over the week, not the month.

If you make an effort, and the weather is kind, it's easy to get to 10k steps. However, the best I've managed thus far (bearing in mind I also have to work 0800-1700) was 35k steps. That took some doing, but on a normal work day I'm getting 16-25k steps (morning run, walk to and from train station, walk at lunchtime, walk…

Edinburgh - add away :)

I can get a bit spacey and light-headed, my legs feel extremely tired and I can feel close to fainting when standing up (from sitting). That's on a serious deficit day, like yesterday (where, despite eating well, I still ended up with 1200 KCal left to eat (1500 planned, 1869 food cals, 1618 exercise cals). Not something I…

Oh, I thought this was about the Large Hadron Collider. My bad :)

I'm ugly and proud! But, no wait, ah, oh yeah, I see what you are asking.... it's 18C here. <blush>

Nowhere near as many as you think*. I guess my avatar scared 'em all away (but, let it be taken into account that the face fungus is no more, I am now back with the badger and blade, getting that BBS mojo thang honey).... * Honestly wasn't my intention. I'm not celibate, never claimed to be. Just occasionally like the…

Ack, get a room you two ;) Or, in the spirit of this thread, separate beds :p
-
Proud to not have any. No problem with those that choose to, though. Life's all about going your own way. Now, scars on the other hand, I could show you a few ;)
-
PS. Disclaimer: I'm *not* celibate. I just thought it would be a good counterpoint to the 'Sex? Sure...' thread. For my own part, I'd like a bit more than I get, but would rather have less but of high quality, than more of lower quality. As with everything in life, a few better things are better than many mediocre ones...

Fortunately for you all, I am not wearing my terribly hip Crockett & Jones Highburys. I lent them to Daniel Craig.

This. I average 20K steps, work to a 1500 KCal net goal, but often find that the calories burnt permit around 2500+ KCals to be eaten. Which is great, as I love the kind of portions they eat in cartoons....

Strange to see no mention of Pepsi Max (the UK one, not the US one - I believe they're a different formula). I live on the stuff! I have no concerns whatsoever about its impact on weight-loss etc., but I sometimes wonder whether it's bad for my fangs. Regardless, it's (IMHO) head and shoulders above any of the other diet…

Labradoodle. She's my best pal, and never says no to a run or a long walk, so she's also my training buddy too :)
-
PS. I have a sedentary desk job, so I need to up my game to make this work. I think I'd struggle to achieve significant weigh loss through diet alone, as I'm not particularly overweight (but enough to want to change) :)

OK, I'll take yesterday as a typical day. Up at 0530 and run 7K (~568KCal according to MyFitBit). Walk from station to work: 1K (~100KCal? Not individually logged). Lunchtime, walk 5.5K (431KCal according to MyFitBit). Walk from work back to station: another 1K/~100KCal. Later on, walked the dog to and from the shop:…
