I agree. I like the idea of a HUD (and preferably one I can use when running as well as cycling) but that is too expensive.

Anything is progress! Actually I think aiming for 2017 might be conservative given we're not at the end of January yet and I'm already up over 300 miles so far.
-
Not enough to be worth counting (I'm ex-military).
-
Just slow down a bit and run further. Not complicated!
-
I also think you just need saddle time. If you're light (and it looks like you are) then you might not have a lot of power but should have a very decent power to weight ratio, so should be reasonably quick.
-
I like that idea - I'm going to change mine to 2017 miles as well.

The Vivoactive HR is excellent (maybe the best general fitness/activity tracking watch at the moment) however I'm not sure anything is great for lifting. The Microsoft Band has an interesting workout app that can be programmed for lifting though.

After years of being overweight my knees aren't what they were so I tend to take it easy running downhill to avoid injury. There is a temptation to overstride I think.

From Scotland but currently located on the London/Essex border.

I've ordered a couple of books on training with power however so far I have found having the power data available for pacing on the climbs and even on flat sections. On the 2nd ride I did with it I set PR's on 19 of the 23 Strava segments I went through.

I'm using a Magicshine Eagle M2 which was about £90 or so I think. Supposed to be something like 2400 lumens and it is very, very bright. Certainly bright enough for mountain biking and also plenty bright enough for road biking at night on dark roads. I occassionally night ride at the Redbridge circuit and it's plenty even…

One of the guys in my club did over 18,000 miles last year! I'll be happy with 2000 this year myself.

You could stay pretty fit (although agree that it depends on the definition of fit) exercising 2 times a week, but it'd be very dependent on just what that exercise was. For example if you did a 10K run mid-week and a 100K cycle ride at the weekend that'd keep you pretty decent.

Picked up a turbo trainer today - one of the Tacx Flow smart trainers that Halfords are knocking out for £189.99 at the moment. Did the short FTP test on Zwift using it - definitely need to put a fan into the room I'm using!
-
I'm about 20 years too old for those shoes and those pedals!
-
Enjoying having the power meter fitted - I've got the Garmin displaying power which is quite useful for managing effort on climbs. I've not had a chance to do a proper FTP test but I have done a couple of 1 hour rides, pushing quite hard, and that's giving averages in around the 220-230W range (weighted average 235-240W)…

I'm thinking about doing a beginner's tri later in the year. Weakest event by far for me is swimming, so will be working on that.
-
I also have a Vivoactive HR - I'm niblue on Garmin Connect and Strava
-
I run at night with a headtorch and a chest mounted light (from Decathlon) - works really well.
-
Can't remember which app I used when I did C25K - it's a great programme though, so best of luck with it.

I think I'd like to do 2000 miles in 2017. I did just over 1000 miles in 2016, despite only really getting back into cycling in the later summer, so hopefully it should be achievable. I've joined a road club so hopefully that will help with motivation etc.

Just read a review of those - look great but £3500 in the UK. Don't think I'm going to get that past SWMBO too easily!
-
The problem is that it really depends on conditions. 16-18mph outside in anything other than relatively flat terrain is pretty good going for any decent distance (say 40 mile+). In hilly/window conditions it's very, very good going where as on a turbo-trainer or on flat/windless conditions it's not necessarily all that…

My old Forerunner 305 had a QR mounts for the wrist and bike bars so would have been quick to switch from one to the other.
-
Decided to give a power meter a try so a 4iiii Precision arrived today and is now fitted to my Roubaix. Hopefully give it a go tomorrow.
-
Clips on MTB and road for me - much prefer riding off-road while clipped in, feels much more secure than using flats.
-
Headed up into the Pentland Hills above Edinburgh for a very wet and wild run last night - lots of puddles, horizontal sleet etc. Weather is if anything worse today so might wimp out and use the treadmill tonight!

The club I ride with sends our GPX files of the weekends planned routes and yesterday for the first time I actually bothered to load those onto my 810 (which I'd already followed the DC Rainmaker instructions for loading decent maps on). On the way bike our ride leader needed to head off early as he had a deadline so…

My first ever bits of club kit arrived today. Looking forward to using them on the club run on Sunday:
