According to a study done for reducing leg cramps in patients requiring hemodialysis, vitamin E significantly reduces the amount of leg cramps caused by treatments (68% reduction). Leg cramps during HD are caused by draining too much water from the muscles during treatment, so it seems that high doses of vitamin E can help…

The reason so many says it's bad to eat at night is because it doesn't give the body enough time to process the food before the time they tend to weigh (usually first thing in the morning) so the weight shows a false increase due to all that waste. In the long term it doesn't affect weight any more than eating at other…

Have you tried eating a quick-acting sugar when you feel dizzy to see if it's from hypoglycemia? Cause it could also be hypotension (which also can cause dizzyness/lightheadedness). It's important to find out which it is, since treatment is different for each of them (some simple carbs if hypoglycemia, some sodium and…

I get orthostatic hypotension often, and usually treat it by sitting down and sipping on a small bottle of Powerade Zero, just enough for the dizzy feeling to stop. It's the only sports drink I've seen so far that has a fairly low amount of sodium in it (100mg per 8 oz) so it won't wreck any sodium intake limits.
-
Generally a good thing as long as they're infrequent and don't go over your goals by too much. It's easier to avoid binges when you treat yourself on occasion instead of denying yourself altogether.

If it's only once in a while then it's fine. I sometimes do the same with a chinese restaurant we occasionally go to (usually twice a month) and count that as two meals while sticking to the meal plan for the rest of the time.

I wouldn't call those huge at all. When my edema was really bad, my calves' circumference was around 28". Luckily now they're down to 14".

At least you don't have insane hours (5p-1a here). What I tend to do is make an extra large lunch and divide it in half, saving and reheating the other half for dinner when I get home.

Blood pressure tends to be high when you have too much water in the bloodstream, which can happen due to electrolyte imbalances from diet/medical conditions.
-
The only meal I really plan out in advance is breakfast, and that's currently eggs/toast/fruit/juice. For lunch and dinner, I keep 1 pound portions of several meats in the fridge and work out a meal around them (beef/chicken/whitefish/tuna/pork). That way I can be more flexible with my meal plans.

The only thing is that this will reduce some carbonation when you stir in the mix, so it won't help those who like soda for the carbonation bite it gives. It might work better with liquid water enhancers instead of the powder (liquids don't give any nucleation points for CO2 to attach to, so it won't lose as much…

It depends on if you have any underlying medical conditions that makes it more difficult for the body to get rid of water, but for a healthy person it won't affect overall weightloss that much. But for people with diseases like kidney disease or CHF, too much sodium causes edema, which can cause a lot of weight gain due to…

Has your doctor done any tests on your kidneys? Depending on how well your kidneys function, you can gain a lot of water weight in a very short period of time. Do you have any signs of edema (swelling of any body parts, usually the extemities)? I'm very susceptible to edema and can gain a few kilos in water weight in just…

Any super salty food like potato chips and pretzels.

Mix together 2 tbsp olive oil, 2 tbsp red wine vinegar and 1 tbsp ms dash seasoning of your choice. Marinate chicken breast in the mix for an hour, then grill until the chicken isn't pink (about 10 minutes). Let it rest for 5 minutes before cutting into chunks. Makes for a good low sodium protein source.

Why not offer to help cook? Also ask if she'll teach you some of her recipes. That way you'll know what's going into the dishes and she'll be passing on the family recipes to the next generation.

I have anemia that's treated using iron/B12/folic acid/epogen. When I really had it bad, I'd lose breath very easily, I'd always be cold and often felt dizzy. But there are other conditions that can have similar symptoms (like dehydration, low blood pressure or Chf) so it's best to see what the doctor says at the…

What you said about having high blood pressure due to not eating enough salt is a bit odd to me, since from personal experience not having enough sodium tends to do the opposite (give low blood pressure). Are you drinking a lot of water/fluids? Too much water in the blood can cause high blood pressure as well.
-
Yes it's possible, depending on eating habits and any underlying medical conditions (I usually gain quite a bit over the weekend due to water weight). But like the others said, most of it will be water weight, assuming from any salt that was in that cake.
-
I'd say most of any "weight gain" is from waste that hasn't been fully processed yet, since most people do their weigh-in first thing in the morning. So no, it doesn't contribute to fat gain any more than it would eating before 9pm. Otherwise I'd be gaining a lot of weight, considering I work into the graveyard shift.

Dizziness and blurry vision are two symptoms of low blood pressure, but without getting it checked out by a doctor you can't be entirely sure. If you're not on a sodium-restrictive diet, next time these symptoms occur lick about 1/8tsp salt and see if that helps. Most of the time low blood pressure is caused by not having…

Food processing, anything that has been modified so it has more than one ingredient in it (like the previous example of rolled oats, the oats would still be natural as long as it's just the oats in the packaging, but add sugar or salt it becomes processed).

Given it's beef from a restaurant, it's probably loaded with fat and sodium. If you can fit those into your macros, then it can be healthy, but you'd be guessing at how much fat/sodium/protein/etc is in the beef.

Based on prior experience, it's most likely an electrolyte imbalance or dehydration (based on the mentioning of muscles twitching, which happens during the early stages of dehydration/imbalance). It's probably only a small imbalance, since you haven't mentioned that the muscles are cramping (muscles start cramping when…

I didn't really notice until I went back to work today after a long medical leave. When even your smaller pair of pants are a bit too big...

It might be a good idea to invest in a set of resistance bands. They give resistance to the muscles being worked, but lowers the risk of injury since gravity doesn't have much of an effect on them. It's why a lot of hospitals use them in rehab programs, so you can use them to rebuild strength in that knee once your doctor…

I lost 100 pounds over the last year and a half, but a lot of that was water weight. Still it was pulled off over time using strong diuretics and not surgery, so I guess it counts? I have to admit I feel a whole lot better after all that weight was removed, which drives me to get my weight lower and feel even better. The…

Maybe. My current ratio is 45/30/25 so it's not too low, but probably could take some from carbs (I always have a deficit in carbs anyways) and add it to fats. The protein percentage has to stay 30% though due to doctor's orders.

I weigh daily but probably will switch to 3 times a week. My weight just swings too wildly during the week to trust daily weighings.
-
I have treatments three times a week to remove excess water, which often also causes my sodium levels to drop and thus cause low blood pressure. When that happens I usually just mix in 1/8 tsp sea salt into 4 oz water. That gives about 400mg sodium per serving with none of the sugar.
