I'm looking for better health and more energy. I've also realized I will need skin removal surgery as well as a boob job. So maybe the girls will stand up and say hi again. A mean feat after 60!

I don't have a scientific study to post here, but I have noted that each time I have a glass of red wine, it is followed by one to two days of significantly lower fbs. In fact, I had decided that to make sure I had a lower fbs when I see my doc for yearly physical in Dec., I will be taking a 3 mile hike the morning before…

Wow! You look great.

Same here, so I tried adding 1 to 2 ounces of protein with it and it solved the problem. Of course, if you do BPC when fasting, that won't work.

Thanks @kpk54! @Annaremade, this book is really helpful so far. I'm not even halfway done so a long way to go. Best is that it is written so hubby can understand it (he is reading it, too). I agree RE corporate greed, but also that our gov't created the policies that have led to the poor health of Americans and also people…

Wisconsinite here, too. Parents farmed when I was small so milk came fresh from the barn as a whole food. DH worked at a cheese company when we were much younger and would bring home heavy cream from work sometimes. He also brought home lovely "test" plugs from various cheeses. Yum! Today I have 1 to 2 TBL of cream in my…

That sounds great! Now celebrate with a yummy ribeye or a slice of pork belly! Edit: How long have you been on LCHF and do you recall how high your numbers were when you started?

I have MS and other autoimmune issues. The problem with assessing diet and MS is MS is most commonly a "relapsing/remitting" disease so you have the onset of new symptoms (or increase of old ones) and then after a day, week or months even, the symptoms remit or decrease or even disappear. So to say a particular diet…

Also, how long vitamins stay in your system depends on the vitamin. So you might not have an accurate "baseline" since some of your oral vitamins will still be in storage in your body.

@Sunny_Bunny_ for the encouragement. I have degrees in medical technology and biochemistry but have been amazed many times on this site about all the things I don't know or have forgotten. My specialty was in toxicology, primarily street drugs, drug monitoring, etc., pill and powder analysis, etc. I think therapeutic…

I've been keto 2 to 3 months. My days vary and I do IF 5:2. So my diary would be very strange looking. Like JessicaL, I also use "fake food" to get MFP to post my day. Just do what works for you is the best advice.

Thanks so much for your responses @Sunny_Bunny_ and @kpk54. I'm extremely carb sensitive. I used to be able to eat 1/3 to 1/2 cup of a starchy carb (rice, peas, potato) per day and still lose some weight but now I wouldn't dream of eating any starchy carb or sugar if I wanted to lose weight. That was part of my weight gain…

Thanks for posting this. My friend's husband has AD and his new neurologist put him on a ketogenic diet, though he said it was a bit late for him. However, his alertness has improved and he "reads" (knows the words but doubt he actually understands). He went from sleeping 15 hours a day down to 10 to 12. I passed this on…

Thanks for starting this thread! Here's mine: Kitten: MFP replacement for 4 letter words! >:)

The more you move around, the more fluctuations you will see. Think of a stress treadmill test. They get you running on a ramp to get your pulse AND you bp up. It is just the normal way our heart works. Some people get high bp readings just by going to the doctor's office (white coat syndrome). And store bp machines often…

Wisconsin. Decreased carbs around 6 months, low carb (under 50) about 3-1/2 months, keto about 2-1/2 months.

Thanks! Now I can go back to puzzling over other LCHF acronym puzzles. :)

The trees are just starting to be painted by mother nature, I can trust I won't have to turn on the air conditioner again this year, my dog actually WANTS to be outside (furry giant Great Pyrenees) and I love going for walks now. But our coolest night has only been in the mid 50s (in east central Wisconsin) so can't wait…

I want to say I am astounded, but I really can't. The U.S. has obviously the most processed foods but all are very high carb meals. Does anyone else get groggy eating meals like this? If kids are getting the double whammy of high carb, high sugar at breakfast and lunch, how can they either sit still (sugar high) or stay…

RE the 70s and snacking, I grew up in the 60s and my family as well as all my friends families at 3 meals a day. There were no snacks except possibly Saturday night. Usually this was a cereal bowl of popcorn and perhaps a shared bottle (16 oz back then) of regular soda. So about 4 oz of soda. If you complained of feeling…

AAhahahahaha!!! I'm making one of those for our next fire pit get together with friends. Just want to see the look on their faces when I mix it up in front of them!

I keep working on getting 2 walks in a day. I've taken two 3 mile-ish hikes this week but have missed on other days. Continues to be a work in progress.

The last time someone commented on my food choices (which were NOT keto at the time but as an overweight person was simply being judged), I said "You can keep your eyes on your own plate and quite worrying about mine, thanks". It shut them up.

My blood chemistries dropped as follows so far: Chol: 225 to 163 Trig: 108 to 87 HDL: 52 to 39 (should be back up when retested, I think). LDL: 151 to 107 Glucose: 147 to 110 (and still dropping) A1c: 6.5 to 5.5 My H's lipids dropped significantly though I don't have a written copy of results. His triglycerides were so…

No, but for those who have insulin resistance, it helps decrease it.

@collegefbfan, your numbers look good and nothing a T2D would be seeing untreated. The best prevention (and I think treatment) is to keep your carb intake low. If you plan to do post prandial (after meal) blood glucose tests, start counting your time when you take your first bite (no matter how long it takes you to eat…
