I used to mostly get a footling veggie delight with or without cheese, and most of the veggies. Sometimes a 6-inch veggie patty. Nowadays it's usually: Turkey on white or wheat, toasted Pepperjack cheese or not, depending on my mood, Lettuce Tomato Onions Olives Jalapeños A small amt oil and vinegar Black pepper I always…

I'd heard great things about Quest bars, and tried this one. One bite in and it was trashed. And I NEVER throw food away. Just nasty!

Regarding what's natural and unnatural--it's pretty unnatural to have as much food and the types of food we have available to us 24/7 (think 2 dozen Krispy Kreme donuts). In order to deal with that fact and and the natural tendency we were born with to eat what we can when we can, I think using an "unnatural " tool such as…

I'm sorry, one more, and then I'm done. I find this all fascinating, really. The change of one letter made people go from feeling guilty about their "sins", to thinking that SW had found the "science" behind weight loss. Brilliant, and it worked to draw new members.…

And yet, a little googling got me to this: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1510451/Slimming-clubs-weigh-into-trademark-war-over-who-has-the-right-to-sin.html So they did used to spell it "sins", but someone had the idea to change it to "syns", and "synergy" gave them a convenient alternative sciencey meaning. Still…

Ok, I was wrong about that. But it sure sounds the same! Anyway, the rest of what I posted is correct
-
Yes!! It really is all about the calories!! Now, if you have something with a lot of sodium, you might see an increase in water weight, but it's temporary. The concept of "syns" gives me the creeps. I'm guessing that's supposed to be like a "sin" if you eat those foods? Based on whose judgment? I feel like I would be…

This is pretty much what I do. I also cycle my calories such that 5 days are lower, so that I have more calories on Fridays and Tuesdays. So on Friday and Tuesday I have more room to enjoy our favorite (calorific) meals--homemade pizza, pasta with pesto, breakfast for dinner, etc. But yes, on my lower calorie days, I just…

At one point I thought I wouldn't need to, but I now think I will have to for quite some time at least. There's something about not knowing my exact calorie count, or really close to it, that makes me go off into LaLa Land, thinking I have tons of calories left. I've lost weight several times (by logging), and gained…

LMAO!! (And don't people read the nutritional info, especially if they're "low-carb"??)
-
Sorry, I misunderstood, but thanks for clarifying! How many days will this fasting last?
-
If this is true for men, surely those numbers would be lower in women, correct? I do thank you for the info. That is what I'd read about fat, is that it should be low so it's not stored. I'm so used to not worrying much about my fat intake that it's difficult to get it very low. I do like the idea of two days at…
-
Yep, having pizza and Girl Scout cookies tonight, accompanied with beer. I just thought I had read that lower fat was important for a refeed, but if I don't need to worry about it that much, then I won't. GottaBurnEmAll--I'm sorry about your troubles with the cold! I'm sure it's worse up where you are! I don't enjoy…
-
Lol, I haven't been running much because it's been too damn cold!! You must live...somewhere else! NC, USA here!
-
Okay, thanks Nony_Mouse! I usually run for exercise, up to half-marathon distance, but here lately I've been mostly walking. I've felt pretty good so far at my deficit since restarting weight loss, and it sounds like the refeeds would be more important when I'm running more. Which might explain why it became much harder to…

Thanks for the info! I haven't quite figured out my maintenance calories, but I'm losing a little over a lb/week at an average of 1550 net cals/day, so I'm assuming maintenance at about 2000-2100 net. I'd also like to keep my protein higher, but I need to play around with the foods/numbers more (haven't tried the shake…

There is so much information in this thread, I wish I could read through all of the info here. Is there a "magic" percentage of maintenance calories that seems to work to replenish glycogen? PP stated maybe half of BMR, but if my calculations are correct, that only puts me at 165g carbs, which I hit pretty often even at a…
-
What percentage of your total calories is that? I'm doing awesome to hit 250 g carbs. I'm 5'6", 148 lbs, and would be having 2000-2200 calories on a refeed day.

I gave up diet sodas cold-turkey 22 years ago, and have only had about 3 sips since then--all accidentally when I reached for my water and got hubby's diet sprite! Somehow the cold-turkey thing worked for me, but maybe because that was about when I discovered coffee. Cutting back just never worked for me. I haven't read…

I watched the video, but now I can't remember… They said a one-day refeed is not enough, but two is. But then Lyle pondered if two days during the week would be OK, even if they were not consecutive days. For instance, deficit for 2-3 days, refeed, deficit 2-3 days, refeed. Can anyone tell me if it was determined if that…

I agree, I have especially had to think about how much exercise I think I can manage once I'm at maintenance. I can be all gung-ho and work out 5 times a week while I'm losing weight. But I know that over time, life is going to get in the way with busy schedules, kids, work, etc. So I'm trying to keep the exercise in…

I guess another alternative is to suggest to your partner a new birthday tradition that does not revolve around food? Maybe get up and have your usual breakfast, then plan a fun day like hiking, biking, or visiting museums or other places you've been wanting to go to? Take a new class? Shop for clothes? If you have a…

Pre-log and stick to it.

OP, are you more concerned with going over calories, or with the actual food itself? From looking it up, a "full English" breakfast is bacon, eggs, sausage, toast, coffee? You can have all of those foods, maybe keeping to about 500-600 calories, have a light snack at lunchtime, then have your takeout in the evening, just…
-
I fully enjoyed my birthday! Ate over my calorie goal for one day, and got back to my deficit the next day. It might set you back a day or two, but if you don't figure this out, you'll never "enjoy" another celebration. You can also plan to eat lighter the day before or after (bank calories).
-
Oh my gosh, I thought of another one. Someone who was frustrated with their weight gain told me that they can just look at food and gain weight. Um, no, you're eating it, and you're eating too much of it! Just like I did over the past six months!
-
Weight Watchers plan that allows a free-for-all on a lot of different foods that have no points(?!). I've never done WW, but read about this on the mfp forums. Sounds pretty wackadoo to me!!
-
And of course…"But you have to eat breakfast!! You need to kickstart your metabolism or you'll crash during the day!" Yeah, no, I haven't had breakfast in several years. Doing just fine, thank you!

My mom was giving my 3-year old niece sweet mini-muffins as an afternoon snack. I asked her if she thought that was a good snack for her, and she replied, "Oh it's OK, they're gluten-free!" Smh!! And no, my niece has absolutely no problem with gluten. Afternoon sugar rush in a small child...maybe there's a problem.

"If you eat a potato, that whole thing turns into SUGAR in your body! No more potatoes for me!!" with horrified look on face...
