  • I wish the US media would report the number of people hospitalized, not just cases and deaths. The number of cases depends heavily on testing (which the CDC is no longer recommending except for the high-risk and/or seriously ill), and the death toll in the US probably sounds "low" to many here who insist this is so much…
  • Yeah...my daughter went to her orthodontist appt today (I was surprised they still wanted her to come in--I watched like a hawk to be sure gloved hands going into her mouth hadn't touched anything else first). They checked her temp before we went in, and it was 96.5 F. The lady behind the counter asked me if that was a…
  • I’ve switched to scrolling with my left thumb. Then I might just accidentally hit “insightful”, which no one seems to mind 😃
  • I’m a little vexed at the usage of the word “hoarding”. Why don’t people understand the idea of preparing, and increased demand? Here’s a little math example: My town has a population of roughly 166,000. If we assume that equals roughly 55,000 households, and each household normally buys toilet paper every 30 days, then on…
  • But, but, but...my 3 kids are home from school, and since they already had spring break, they’re now doing virtual zoom classes/homeschool while I’m trying to work. It’s very difficult to help them and work. Soon my husband will be working from home as well, so maybe a bit easier to switch off.
  • Just to clarify (and not to burst your bubble), I wanted to point out that the PP is referring to Norovirus, not COVID-19, when they say AB is neither resistant nor more susceptible than other blood type. The study on COVID-19 and blood type grouped A, B, and AB together as slightly higher susceptibility than O. Not a…
  • We have a few small spray bottles of a "natural" hand sanitizer that we bought quite a while back. When those empty, we've been pouring our 70% isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol in them, and that can just be sprayed directly on hands. It's of course a fire hazard, so keep away from flames!! We only use when really necessary.
  • I'm feeling a lot of discontent the past couple of days. We are a family of 5, pretty much homebound now, with kids doing virtual classes, me working from home, and husband pretty much working from home unless absolutely needed in his research lab. He's from Italy, and of course watching what's going on there is…
  • I saw this headline this morning and was initially concerned, since my husband and kids are all type A (I'm type O). But in reading over the study results, the evidence doesn't look all that convincing. Definitely would need more research before I'd worry much over it. Of course, kids are seemingly unaffected anyway, but…
  • I’m just happy we have a greenway trail through our neighborhood that goes for miles in both directions. I surely hope they don’t “close” it, due to lack of maintenance or something like that. The races I’ve been training and gearing up for have all been cancelled, so I have to somehow keep myself motivated to continue…
  • snowflake954–Thank you for your updates from Italy. My husband is Italian (living in USA) and has family there near Lago di Garda, among other places. I have a question for you—I feel like the US is closing everything down pretty early on (which I agree with!), with 60 or so deaths in the whole country at this point. Do…
  • Not sure. I belong to a very small gym only because it’s next door to my daughter’s ballet studio. I take her to ballet 4 times per week, and figured some days I might as well work out there instead of driving back and forth. In any case, I have weights at home, my own body weight, a home treadmill, and the great outdoors…

  • North Carolina. They only mentioned this one location, but I bet more will follow.
  • We have a nearby Chick-fil-a doing drive-thru only. I’m wondering when restaurants will begin closing. We have 26 confirmed cases in our state, with 11 of those in our county.
  • A few things as this situation develops so quickly— With the apparent “reinfections” happening in China and Japan, I’m curious if they are any less sick than before, or possibly more sick? The articles I’ve read haven’t said. Also, there’s a new article on CNN indicating that people are indeed likely spreading COVID-19…
  • Can you change the servings to 9, so then it’s 9 servings of 100 g? Or, if you click on the 100 g, it will often give you other options like 1 g, or ounces, etc. You can choose 1 g, then make it 900 servings.

  • All the running races in our area are being cancelled or postponed. Is your half-marathon still on?
  • Yes, it’s been kind of a relief when they finally just cancel something, so then the decision is just out of your hands. We are still waiting for that to happen with our kids’ school, and our daughter’s ballet studio. So far both are still on.
  • I was at the GI doctor today, and he wants to do an ultrasound. He said they should be able to see everything well because I'm "thin". I'm not sure he would have said that 27 lbs ago? (Btw, my BMI is 22.3, so I guess in the middle?)
  • It seems like he's saying it's because they've had a case or two that were from "community spread", and when that happens, it's because 1% of the population has it (or is carrying it). I don't know, it still sounds really high to me. I would think he's being advised by someone that should know, but...
  • This sounds awfully high... I looked it up, but I wonder where they're getting that theoretical number from? If true, that's scary...
  • I saw that too, and I edited my above post to include another headline. It says Labcorp can do several thousand tests a day. I dunno... https://www.wral.com/nc-widens-coronavirus-testing-criteria/19009212/
  • https://www.wbtv.com/2020/03/12/north-carolina-works-around-federal-government-find-other-methods-testing-coronavirus/ also from the link below: "North Carolina officials have complained of shortages for more than a week, and Gov. Roy Cooper said Thursday that the state never received materials promised by the Centers for…
  • But those people who are not symptomatic would not be seeking testing, would they? I'm talking about large numbers of people sick that we don't know about because there's a shortage of tests (as mentioned above). I'm sure there are infected people who haven't shown symptoms yet, but that's a different point. ETA: Maybe I…
  • I also wanted to say that to anyone who still believes this is no worse than the flu, please watch some of the videos coming out of Italy. My husband is from Italy and has family there, so we've been watching what's happening there pretty closely. It sounds pretty scary for the areas hit the hardest. Authorities are pretty…
  • I'm just thinking that if there were so many "unknown" cases because of lack of testing, wouldn't we be seeing people winding up very sick in the hospitals? I don't think we are, or I am incorrect? 20% of large numbers of sick people would be obvious, I would think. In my state of NC, at first there was a test shortage due…
  • My aunt chose to cancel a trip from CA to Baton Rouge, because she didn't want to risk bringing the virus there. The family she was going to visit is elderly and in bad health. Also, her area in CA has a significant number of cases. My sister is supposed to be flying from Chicago to San Antonio tomorrow, also to visit…
  • I would love to know this as well, but I'm not sure anyone can answer that right now. The US specifically is such a large nation, it could continue to hop around for awhile? Is that happening in China?
