I really don’t pay much attention. I very rarely add sugar to anything I am drinking or cooking. I am no a big dessert or sweets fanatic, fortunately. My only real weakness there is dark chocolate; good dark chocolate. And, with that, as long as I am reasonably mindful, it only takes a small amount to satisfy me.

Unfortunately, there are still several things I have yet to learn and do consistently. 1) My off button malfunctions with astonishing regularity. 2) Calories in a snack do not necessarily have to equal calories in a meal. 3) Tablespoon of peanut butter means level, not heaping. 4) Giving the dog a bite of what I'm eating…

I didn't really pick one of these, but rather eliminated the others. Making a plan is fine, but, as Mike Tyson put it, "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face". Number 3 kind of stuck out for me, but I thought it more an afterthought; in other words, I failed, but I'll do better next time. Discipline rings…

I talked about this a little bit yesterday. For me, the answer is to focus on one aspect of the life style, do it well, and do it religiously. For me that usually starts with (improved) tracking. Once that is entrained, I can move on to portion sizes, better food choices, more movement, etc.

I was in the same boat after a bad October -early November. Then I went back to my old mantra -“Eat the elephant one bite at a time”. First came tracking. A few days later measuring. After that snacking became more formalized. This has me in a pretty good place; still wary but overall satisfied with my performance and…

MIL and SIL visiting mid-December. SIL will stay two weeks, MIL up to six months, assuming her health holds out and she doesn't need to go back to Italy. Girls will be off school for a couple weeks also. I expect to be out walking quite a bit. :) Shopping? I have a daughter, son in law and two grandsons in NY, and another…

After almost a year of calling myself a cow every time I stepped on the scale, I started to do something about it in May. I rescued a Great Pyrenees in May, and, if you know anything about the breed, you better exercise them! So I started walking, 2-3 miles a day, and I think I've missed walking less than ten times since…

Very disappointed no one has made an “I felt the earth move” joke.

Department of weird circumstances. I got to shake hands with him and with Roger Clemens on the same day on the sidelines before a Texans-Bills game.

I’ll take Thursday unless someone else jumps in.

If you get stuck I can step in again.

As far as staying on plan, eating right, etc. I am on my own. I do the shopping and cooking, so this helps me create my own destiny as far as food choices, meals, etc. If anything, DW and kids are sometimes a hinderance; I make things to keep them happy that are really not good for me. But that is thankfully rare. Zagar &…

My plan was to follow #1 above. I wasn't altogether great in the days leading up, but didn't have a major blow out either. We went out to a restaurant buffet yesterday; it just didn't make sense to go through all that cooking for just the four of us. Overall, I stayed on plan yesterday. I had a sampling of a few different…
