This is an excellent argument against food restrictions. The way you get to feel full within your calorie allotment is by finding the foods that satiate you enough within that calorie allotment. For me, this is LCHF. For years I ate a vegetarian diet that was very low in fat because common wisdom was that dietary fat makes…

There are a number of reasons but a big one is that many people don't realize you have to adjust your calorie goal as your weight changes. If I continued to eat the 1800cal I lost weight on when I started, I would no longer be maintaining at my current weight; I'd be gaining. Also, without a fitness tracker, many people…

Nope. Stop spreading that trash. Our family doctor recommended Dr. Fung's "wisdom" to my pre-diabetic husband and now he's even more firmly against reducing his calorie intake for weight loss than ever, utterly convinced that he just needs to eat healthy (whatever that means anyway). For weight loss, it doesn't matter what…

I swore when I started out that, although I gave up sugar almost immediately, I would never give up cream in my coffee. At the time, coffee was more a vehicle for me to drink cream than it was about the actual coffee. However, within six months or so, it became apparent to me that I'd rather eat 100cal than drink 100cal…

I'm 5'4" 130+/-2lbs although mostly on the + side since the holiday season hehe. I'd love to get down to under 125lbs some day but that's just a number. I'm currently recomping with the goal of lowering my BF% from ~23% down to ~20%, scale weight be damned! I've been recomping for a while now and have managed to drop a bit…

Purely anecdotal, but I can't stand my Mirena. I have used non-normonal IUD's throughout my entire adult life as hormonal birth controls make me batshit crazy--why I switched from the pill to an IUD in the first place. It seems non-hormonal IUD's have fallen out of favour since I got my last one though so I had a very…

I can only BFF people who say terrible things about Betty White if they have superior taste in music.

I drink a protein shake before I crossfit in the mornings. It works out to ~14g carbs and ~42g protein so not terribly carb heavy. *shrug* It seems to be what I need first thing. I've never tried a more carb heavy pre-workout snack as I tend to eat most of my carbs later in the day for whatever reason. I have tried working…

There are gyms like this where I am located. There may be where you are too but it's really hard to say without knowing where that is. Do you think it might be more worth while to google local gyms or look in your local yellow pages than it is to ask people on a globally accessed website from which have withheld your…

Aches and pains are one thing and can be pushed through however actual injuries are another. I tore my hamstring at the beginning of September and saw a physiotherapist right away. She had me take a complete break from crossfit for just over 7 weeks. She assigned me a whole bunch of band and bodyweight exercises and…

A couple things to bear in mind: Weight loss isn't linear. There will be days where you "gain" weight when it seems like you shouldn't have because you did really well to stay within your calorie allotment or where you didn't "lose" any weight even though you didn't eat all the calories you had available. A pound of fat =…

It is perfectly understandable that you want to be slimmer and look better right now but it took you some time to gain the weight, right? It is going to take you a comparable, if not greater amount of time to lose the weight. A smaller deficit helps you maintain what muscle you have during weight loss and makes it easier…

I closed my food diary because I got tired of people making comments about how little veg I eat. I just don't find veg very appetizing or filling. After many, many sad years of a vegetarian diet, I discovered MFP, started logging the foods that I can actually lose weight while eating and realized that I'm a LCHF…

Most Americans don't know how far a kilometre is and most non-Americans don't know how far a mile is. Does this mean measuring distance is useless? Of course not. Similarly, if most people think you weigh less than you do and you don't like your BMI, does this mean that the scale and BMI are useless? Of course not.

Why does the fit looking person with the normal BMI keep posting photos of herself as evidence that BMI is not a good metric? Your photos are evidence that BMI is a good metric. (They are posted across two BMI debate threads and I don’t understand the point she is trying to make in either)

Weigh yourself at the same time every day. I like first thing in morning but you're looking for consistency more than any particular time of day, Allow yourself a weight range rather than a specific weight. Something like 3-5lbs up and down is normal, even from one day to the next. Get a weight trending app to help you see…

If it's not in my house, I can't eat it. Although I have a terrible weakness for baked goods, I have not yet wanted a cookie so badly that I've made a special trip to the store to get one (or two or a dozen NOM NOM NOM). As long as I don't keep them in the house, I'm safe--the hardest part is walking on by when getting…

I could be wrong but I'm not sure it is ever a good idea to eat under BMR. BMR is the absolute minimum calories your body requires to just exist, i.e. keep your organs functioning, feed your brain, give your body enough energy to perform its processes like digestion and cell repair etc. etc. You want your body to be able…

I'm another who drinks coffee because murderous rampages are frowned upon.

I pre-log as well and plan for the snacks I can have between dinner and bedtime. The last thing I eat is usually a piece of cheese shortly before going to bed.

Not a meal replacement but I like the peanut butter dark chocolate Nature Valley Protein Bars for a good snack. 11g protein/190cal and they are very tasty. There’s also an almond variety (I think) that I don’t personally care for (which is why I’m not certain what the flavour is) with the same nutritional value.

I suppose such individuals might be comparable to drivers under 25 with spotless driving records. They are not a proven risk themselves but, statistically speaking, belong to a high risk group.

Dairyland is also my favourite.

The cool thing about statistics is that, unless otherwise stated, if 10-14% of the population present with vitamin C deficiency, it is safe to say that 10-14% of people on a carnivore diet will present with a vitamin C deficiency as they are part of the general population sample. A carnivore diet does not remove you from…

My intent was not to prove that a carnivore diet is a specific risk, rather that scurvy is a risk at all. Just because OP doesn't know anyone with scurvy doesn't mean scurvy does not occur. If you look at my second post, I clearly state that I cannot say whether OP is at elevated risk.
-
There does not seem to be any dietary consideration in the study I linked so I presume it is for people consuming a "normal" balanced diet, including many of the fortified foods that helped to reduce the prevalence of scurvy (none of which are meat BTW). My point is that, despite OP being anecdotally unaware of any scurvy…
