  • My wife and I were invited to a get together Sunday evening and she thought making something like the "Spiralized Zucchini Pesto Salad" she recently got at Houlihan's might be a good option. Here is a link to their menu so you can see what is in it. http://www.houlihans.com/eats-and-drinks/menu/dinner/san-antonio-(live-oak)
  • if you prefer to buy them, Primal Kitchen has several. I have ordered some through Thrive Market online and was pleased.

I have also…
  • peanuts are my downfall. Finally had to just give them up
  • If you want something to prep, try these: https://www.ketoconnect.net/recipe/bacon-egg-cups/ or these: http://www.food.com/recipe/bacon-wrapped-cheddar-egg-bites-486479 I could easily eat these hot or cold. Personally, I generally just have hard boiled eggs when I eat breakfast. These are the kinds of things that are more…
  • The nutrition of the skin is a little better than the flesh, but not as different as I had thought. Flesh - http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/vegetables-and-vegetable-products/2554/2 Skin - http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/vegetables-and-vegetable-products/2555/2 Did both per 100 g just to be consistent.
  • IMHO, we were made to eat real food. If I eat real food, I find satiation is better, I feel better, i get the nutrients I need (although a multivitamin is not a bad idea) and it is much simpler and cheaper. Eating a full fat protein source (i.e. eggs, beef, pork, etc.) cooked with full fat (i.e I love steak fried in ghee)…

  • The best part of oil pulling for those of us who are LCHF is we can just swallow the oil after swishing to up our fat intake.
  • If I am not mistaken, in order to get those nutrients, you have to eat the skin. Back when I ate potatoes, I always ate the skin. However, when I am in a restaurant and look around, I see many, if not most, only eat the inside of the potato and leave the skin on their plates.
  • I thought I was sure until @EggToni posted that pic.
  • The "where" is not necessarily important, however, getting proper nutrition from food as much as possible would make choices like bread, pasta, potatoes, etc. a less desirable option as they really have very little nutritional value. If you haven't yet, I would highly recommend you look through the information in the…
  • Down here we have a chain restaurant called Black Eyed Pea. When my wife and I were first dating, this was a place we went fairly regularly partly because they brought out a basket of rolls and/or corn bread depending on what you wanted and would keep re-filling it until your order was brought out to you. We used to get…
  • I have found you have to be careful with anything "BBQ" as the vast majority think you must add a ton of sugar to BBQ sauce. This sticks because my grill and my smoker are two of my prized possessions.
  • Thanks, @RalfLott for the Cleveland Clinic links. I think anyone in the medical industry who does not see functional medicine as the future is either so deeply entrenched financially in doling out (or should I say dealing) drugs or they lack the mental capacity to understand stopping the root cause is better than just…
  • I would second the other group for resources. If you don't like "fatty" foods, what about "creamy" foods. I ask because I have found that heavy whipping cream (HWC) is one way to add fat. For instance, my wife always used milk in scrambled eggs. HWC makes the eggs even fluffier. It is great in coffee if you drink coffee. I…

  • when it becomes a normal occurrence to hear the phrase "you have grease about to drip off your chin" at dinner every night.
  • Just as a follow up, I had moved to IF just because of no longer being hungry in the morning (which was totally bizarre given my former eating schedule of ALL DAY eating). After talking to my doc who is LCHF friendly but said I may be putting too much stress on my body with the early am work out and then not eating for…
  • The whole idea of having different food for breakfast is less than 100 years old. My understanding is it started with trying to promote bacon (great idea) and then moved to a way to push cereal (one of the worst ideas in the history of human nutrition) because of the fat in bacon and eggs. As for sardines, I have several…
  • I have been lifting weights for the better part of the last 30 years. Moving LC and then keto has not hindered me at all. I may have benefited because I moved to lifting in the morning in a fasted state back in 2000. That transition was a bit difficult, but I think it was more because I was not a morning person. In the…
  • when you are reluctant to use the grill for a steak because too much of the fat will drip down into the charcoals lost forever
  • @2t9nty - my A1c was lower than was yours upon diagnosis, but the recommendations, conversation, explained expectations and patient response were almost identical. I am not and will not be a victim or a bystander in this.
  • To me, the hardest part of maintenance is i really enjoy eating. I used to lament (before really understanding how dangerous these are) the fact that the prevalence of eating challenges didn't explode until I was too old to be competitive. I always took the words "all you can eat" as a challenge. I still find it an effort…

  • If you have 3 hours to spare, watch the great nutrition debate. It has everyone from Dr Atkins to Dean Ornish on the panel. The only two things they all agreed on was we should move more and processed carbs should be avoided. I find it crazy how many "vegetarians" actually just eat a bunch of crappy carbage and very few…
  • NY strip cooked in bacon grease with a side of chopped zucchini sautéed with bacon, fresh cayenne pepper from my garden and lime basil also from my garden, garlic powder and some Parmesan cheese.
  • First, I am of the opinion that no diet is perfect for everyone. The only blanket statements I will make in regard to diet are: 1 - added sugar (especially HFCS) is not healthy for anyone 2 - "vegetable oils" are not made from vegetables and the chemistry needed to make these is so horrific that anyone who thinks these…
  • Most Sunday I throw some good meat in the crockpot with some seasoning and water or broth and then divvy it into 5 lunches when it's done. One of my favorite "seasonings" to add to a roast is BACON.
  • Unless we are talking about ensuring ketosis (and even then, I think the numbers can vary), I think looking at percentages is a better way to look at a low carb definition. I say this because as an active 6'1" 185 lb man, for maintenance, I eat around 3500 calories a day. To compare me with my 5'4" in wife who eats about…
