Two more nights of bacchanalia for me, before I get back on the wagon.

Yes - the twelfth day (Shakespeare's Twelfth Night) is the Eve of the Epiphany - January 5th. In England, it is the traditional date for taking down Christmas decorations. Is that the same elsewhere?

The UK has: spring onions, though the shops sometimes sell them as "salad onions", but I've only ever heard people call them spring onions, aubergines, cantaloupes, rocket, courgettes, herbs with an h to rhyme with verb, coriander (not cilantro), biscuits (not cookies, in general, though there's a subset of biscuits,…

Bleh. You will tear my lovely pig bacon out of my cold dead hands. Likewise my juicy beef burger.

Similar to scallions.

Rabbits eat their own poo, as do rats and mice. Rodents are not a great model for the human alimentary tract.

I sympathise. My most rapid weight gain occurred after I was hit by a car while cycling. It knocks the stuffing right out of you and makes it hard to give a damn about anything, and painful to exercise. For me, I needed to make myself a structured plan with goals to regain fitness. I did C25K (I hadn't been a runner…

I started with C25K, rehabbing after a bike accident, while I was feeling nervy about cycling, and trying to regain fitness. I've never treadmilled. My first race was a sprint triathlon - London. So my first timed 5k was at the end of a 750m swim and a 21km bike. The run was actually 5.2km, and I did it in 31:37, and…

I'm having salad, but instead of lettuce leaves, I'm having slices of turkey, instead of raw carrots, I'm having pigs in blankets, and instead of tomatoes I'm having stuffing balls... I will weigh myself in the New Year. If the scales will take it.

Strong freshly ground Tanzanian peaberry coffee in the morning. Black China tea (Keemun, Yunnan, Russian Caravan etc), with occasional excursions into Earl Grey, Ooolong, green or Pu Erh or flavoured teas (rose, vanilla, jasmine etc) all day. Maybe a decaf ground Columbian coffee if I'm craving a stronger taste. Chamomile…

Enjoy the melon!. The worst is, when something is overly pricey, and then you manage to let it go off. That has happened for me with soft fruit, which is expensive, and has a short life. It's my partner's favourite fruit (raspberries especially), but his lifestyle can be quite erratic, and I'll get some, and then he won't…

My partner's mum (Scottish, in her 60s) has a story of walking home from the shops with her mother, who suddenly said "Oh no, I've forgotten the baby!" To which she replied, "I know!" Her little sister had been left in a pram outside the shops, and their mum had absent-mindedly failed to pick her up. Obviously she didn't…

I was one of those! I was talking from my perspective of having amenorrhea and faintiness at a higher BMI than that (20-21) I wasn't trying to imply that would be the case for all or most women at a BMI of 19, simply that such a low weight is not a reasonable primary goal for the majority of overweight women.
-
Which is fine, and if you were to gain weight, and then try to lose it, you'd know that you had been healthy at 130, and that it was an appropriate weight to aim for. If someone has a BMI over 30, aiming for a BMI of 19 seems overly stressful, and, in all likelihood, inappropriate and liable to fail, unless she has a good…

In the UK, it rarely gets too hot or too cold to run, but still, spring and autumn are prime. In winter the daylight hours are short, so living in an unlit rural area, it can be more challenging to find the time. I find it hard to set off in the rain, but not too bad if the rain starts once I'm already underway.
-
I am dreading the fight-to-the-death battle with forks over the pigs in blankets. I think I might have the edge in general viciousness and dirty tactics over my partner's father, but he will be highly motivated, so it will be close. If I don't return after Christmas, you will know it went badly for me.

I'd be very close to hospitalisation at 130lb. There are some lean bean types who it suits, but I think they are very much in the minority. Or teenagers who haven't yet got a fully adult body, even if they are adult height.

The thing I'm looking forward to most is the cheeseboard. God, I'd do time for a nice selection of cheese.

Also 5' 8.5", currently 161, goal 147 or thereabouts.

Diet break starts today. and I feel mentally ready for a break after nearly four months of being very disciplined. No logging. No massive blow-outs - I don't really do that much anyway. I'll be away with relatives, so I'll be eating more than I do to lose. Traditional roast turkey and trimmings on Christmas day, see the…

I'd start at 15 or 1600 and see how you feel. If you find it hard to cope on that, you can bump it up, and still probably lose. If, after a few weeks, you feel you could cope on a bit less, you can go down. If you are accurate with your logging, you ought to lose at a decent rate on that. I think that 1200 is a recipe for…

Also, 130lb is aggressively low for a 5'9" woman, unless she is super-fine-boned. BMI 19.2.

You might find this thread relevant. Not many tall women feel satisfied on 1200 calories: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10490265/anyone-5ft-8-tall/p1

It's just convenient alliteration as an aide-memoire.

Can I ask your advice - do you think that former fitness plays into it at all? I've been in a slump, and certainly fit into the overweight middle-aged female beginner category, but I used to be a lot more muscly than I am. Not through weight-training, but other stuff. If I add resistance training to my moderate diet in the…

All of the above, but maybe you could make sure that there are some treats that you enjoy, but that are not disastrous to your intake, as well as all the seasonal lardy stuff. So you can join in, not stop others eating what they want, not feel that you are denying yourself, but also not feel you are derailing your weight…

Since this is a zombie thread, I'm interested in how it panned out for the OP. Did she talk to reception and make it a regular thing to walk the stairs in this hotel?
-
If it makes you feel crap, don't eat it. But it probably is more in your mind than anything, plus what Kimny says - there just isn't enough in an apple to satisfy you for long. It's like having an appetiser - your body is in eager anticipation of what's coming next! Especially since you're new to this.
-
I'd assume that she's interested to know how much women of a similar size need to eat in order to lose weight at a sensible rate. The answer, for many of us, is considerably more than the 1200 than a smaller woman might need. Build, activity and starting weight will cause that to vary quite a lot, of course.

It wouldn't help much because his lean mass will be much higher. I'm 5' 8.5" and started off overweight (BMI nearly 28), and am now BMI 24, with a couple more BMI units to lose. I aim for 1500-1600 calories. I've been pretty sedentary recently, and my only exercise is walking, which if I'm to believe MFP, accounts for…
