  • Just posting a link to the new July thread for those who might not have it: community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10752237/women-ages-50-for-july-2019#latest
  • Pip - love your memorial. I will try post a photo of ours below. We've lost 7 cats in total, so it takes up a large wall space (but it means a lot to us). Beth - so sorry to hear about Zeke. How heartbreaking! I hope July is less stressful for you! Heather - I can totally understand what you mean about turning into your…
  • happy birthday SueBDew!!
  • Goals for June: -do 30 min core/knee set at least twice per week - 100% -do 30 min upper body set at least twice per week - 100% -walk outside at least once per week - 50% -move 10 minutes at a time, twice a day (stretching, yoga, cleaning, walking all count as movement) - 80% -meditate in 10 minute blocks once per day -…
  • Allie - hope you had a happy birthday! Pip - so sorry to hear about Winkle. hugs!
  • Allie - I hope you find a new job soon that is a whole lot stressful! Heather - love the idea to make a combination of lentils, rice and quinoa together! I make big batches of foods and freeze them, and doing those grains all separate ends up in way too many little containers that I lose track of! I'm going to try this.…
  • thank you to everyone who responded to my question re: unsolicited advice on my timeline. I think it if happens again I'll just close my food diary so no one can see it. We took Ashley (16 yr old cat - our eldest) in to the vet for his recheck after dental surgery two weeks ago and he is healing great. I'm so happy. He…
  • hi ladies! today it's a beautiful day, even though it's a bit grey. the sun comes out in spots, and the wind is blowing the leaves around a lot (I love that sound). We found out that Vince's foot is not broken (8 days after x-rays were taken - how is that helpful?) but he's having quite a time with it and a lot of pain.…
  • thank you Barbie! hi Sharon - we adopted Trolley and his brother in February and named them Trolley and Cardigan (from Mr. Rogers!) - it was mainly because Cardigan looks like he is wearing a sweater. :) Trolley got the happy alternative name!
  • hi everyone - it's been a busy week. Ashley (my 16-yr old cat) made it through his dental surgery and now has 4 less teeth. He was pretty painful for the first 5 days but had a morphine derivative to help him through. And then *I* got to go to the dentist today for the first time in 5 years (and that was for an emergency…
  • My happy place is with my cats.. anywhere in my house (or on the porch or "catio" in the back). My other happy place is my car. I have always loved road trips and my car is almost like a second home. I haven't been able to road trip in 3 years due to health issues, and now am having issues driving because of eye…
  • hi ladies! Pip - sorry to hear about Bullwinkle's cancer. We lost one of our boys, Charcoal, in December to cancer. It seems to be the diagnosis of most of the cats we've lost, to be honest. This is Charcoal's twin brother, Ashley. in the photo with me, taken yesterday. He is in for emergency surgery today because he had a…
  • Hello ladies! For the month of May my goals were: -10 minutes of exercise per day (not including physio) -daily physio hip strengthening exercises -intentional meditation 10 minute block I had to quit hip physio for now, but over the past month or so I have created two sets of exercises, one for upper body and one for…
  • just popping in to say the surgery went well and recovery is smooth and I'm proud that I'm not obsessing about the results and will deal with them when they come. have a great week everyone! Shannon in rural Ontario, Canada
  • Machka it looks neat - what is controversial about it?? Shannon in rural Ontario Canada
  • hi Michelle - it's a hysteroscopy with D&C. they keep telling me it's pretty routine, but I haven't had surgery with general anasthetic since I was in my early 20s. And I'm quite anxious in regards to all medical stuff! However, maybe it'll be better than many of the procedures I've had in the last year since I'll be…
  • I'm Shannon and I'm 49 (will be 50 in a month). I live in a rural area in Ontario, Canada on 7 acres with my partner and our cats. We currently have 4 cats - we just adopted a pair of siblings who had been in a shelter for almost all of their 7 years of life! I love to read, write & research. I love animals, especially…
  • Thanks for posting this, Barbie! My goals for April were:* 10 minutes of exercise per day * learn & perfect one more freezer meal recipe (to make in bulk and freeze in individual portions) hopefully something vegetarian I exercised 83% of the days (25/30) and most of those were 20 minutes or more. I created 2 new freezer…
  • hi ladies - I hardly ever post, but I read everything. you all are so inspiring! I've had a lot of stress this month and my food intake shows it... but I am still exercising pretty much everyday, so that's a bonus! I have gained 3 lbs since last weigh in, however. Oh well. Although it's disappointing, I know it's just part…
  • Hi ladies - I just wanted to share that while exercising today I had two NSVs... I can now (with a lot of help from my hands/arms to lift my leg) can put my ankle on my opposite leg ("sitting cross legged"). I can also now lift both feet off the floor while seated. YAY! Shannon in rural Ontario, Canada
  • My goals were March were the same as Feb and Jan: to move 10 minutes per day, every day. I only missed days I was very ill or recovering from a surgical procedure, so did it 80% of the time. I had two surgical procedures, one of which took me almost a week to recover. I also, more often than not, did 20 or more minutes a…
  • Here are the boys the first day they got here, hiding in the litter box: and here they are about a week later, happy and wanting pets: They only come out and want pets at night, mostly (which is why it was difficult to get a picture of them - the ones at night just don't turn out and the flash scares them). During the day…
  • Michele - it's so funny when the cats react to other cats outside. But they feel someone is invading their territory, so I don't blame them! Barbara - I'm sure there are all types of laser procedures. I'm sorry Joe's was uncomfortable. The main discomfort was the lens they put against the eyeball during the procedure but I…
  • MariMcKeon - I do seated workouts I find on YouTube. I have hip/knee and balance problems, and can't get up and down from the floor (and horribly afraid of falling)... these seated workouts have changed my life! :) just search "seated exercise" or "seated workouts". There are all kinds. Some are very simple and others are…
  • I did great on my goal for February - 10 minutes of exercise a day. I achieved that 22/28 days, and surpassed it most days by doing 20 minutes or more. For March, I'm continuing the 10 minutes of exercise a day, and basically that's going to be my goal until probably June.
  • (reposting this here, because I posted it yesterday in the February thread.. I can't believe it's mid-March already!) hi ladies - life has been so busy! We adopted the two cats (siblings) from the shelter. they had been there SEVEN years. They've never seen out a window so when they see the birds outside they get scared.…
  • hi ladies - life has been so busy! We adopted the two cats (siblings) from the shelter. they had been there SEVEN years. They've never seen out a window so when they see the birds outside they get scared. They are adjusting ok to life in a home, but it's slow. They both let me pet them, but usually only at night. they…
  • Sharon - it's sometimes so hard to socialize cats. We have had a few feral cats who were tough to socialize.. some of them come out of it and some don't. I'm very worried these boys will find it hard to acclimate. They've lived their entire life in a shelter, and I don't even think they have a window in the room they've…
  • That's great! I love to hear good outcomes!
  • Hello ladies! We are adopting two cats! It's kinda a sad story as they've been in a shelter for years (never lived in a home). They are litter mates and look almost identical. I'm getting a room ready for them to live in for a little while before we introduce them to our two cats. They are supposed to be quite skittish.…
