  • There's of course the meal prep route of having whole meals or meal components ready ahead of time that you just throw together. And other quick meal ideas at home. But if I were busy with 4 kids, I could definitely see myself wanting to occasionally have quick meals prepared for me by someone else. If that feeling struck,…
  • I've known people who've had great success with Weight Watchers, and I do think it encourages a nutritious diet (with how they structure point values). I personally consider it too paternalistic though in how it inflates or deflates point values based on nutrition. I think they're resting on the premise (faulty, imo) that…
  • For quick and easy, I love those individual fage containers that include a fruit topping. I'll usually add 100 calories worth of walnuts or sliced almonds.
  • I often see it said here that satiety is an individual thing, but that combo is certainly my holy trinity too! :) Protein alone can really fill me up, but the complete combo is usually more dazzling for my taste buds and gives me a long and steady supply of energy that I really like.
  • Two of my absolute favorite foods in life! I've not yet eaten them together though.
  • I love soups and salads with a mix of fiber and protein, but I prefer those for leisurely meals outside of work. On work days, my filling go-to's for lunch are greek yogurt with nuts (sometimes with fruit or granola) or cottage cheese. Those take away my hunger and leave me full for a long time w/o feeling stuffed. Besides…
  • I'd have to be much more active than is my norm to be able to maintain on 2000+ calories. About 1700 is my maintenance for a weight ranging from 107-120 pounds. (Where I fall in that range depends on how active I am.) To provide some more details... I'll be around 120 pounds if I'm lightly active in my daily life but not…
  • Congrats, OP! I'm glad you've found something that's working for you. Factoring in your extra meals, you're probably maintaining on about 2000 a day (when it's averaged out for the week). To get 1500, did you just multiply your desired weight by 10? That'll give you a figure that's too low. Fortunately you're not really…
  • To maintain my usual weight, usually 1300-2200 a day, averaging over the long-term in the 1700's. (I gain at that average though if I become very sedentary. I likely need to stick to a 1500 calorie average during my extreme sloth phases.) To lose, averaging out in the 1300's for the week gives me a loss of about 3 pounds a…
  • So far today... A bowl of homemade veggie soup Pasta with a kale/chard blend and white beans I'll have a mandarin later and might have another bowl of soup.
  • No, but I'm only a sporadic logger anyway.
  • So well said!
  • Food’s impact on satiety is something my mom didn’t pay attention to until late in life. She spent decades stuggling to adhere to her healthy weight’s calorie level. To her, being a healthy weight meant being disciplined with calories. It’s like she took for granted that a “balanced diet” with all food groups at most meals…
  • Not to be too much of a softy, but it really makes me sad that some people feel guilty for the food that they eat. I’m guessing that this is something that people who’ve struggled with their weight can feel if they’ve been shamed for their weight problem (from either within or without) that it’s their fault they’re fat for…
  • I agree 100% that the best exercise is the one that you’ll do. If you’re coming from being inactive, any activity will be an improvement and will bring fitness benefits. About 15 years ago, my brother lost over 100 pounds through counting calories and walking at least one hour a day, every day, often walking 1.5-2 hours.…
  • When I’m engrossed in a project, especially when I’m on a deadline, it’s my norm to forget to eat. I get in the flow of the work and don’t register feelings of hunger until they’re really strong, which is usually 8+ hours later. Even then when I finally “remember” to eat, if I’m not yet done or want to finish a specific…
  • Is the additional snacking harming your weight loss? What MFP is giving you is just a generic estimate based on some personalized info. It’s possible that you don’t need to limit yourself to 1700 a day to lose at your selected pace. And even if it’s slowing you down a bit, is the snacking worth the slower pace? Sometimes…
  • What kind of foods and flavors do you like?
  • I’m often under and occasionally quite a bit over. For weight loss, my plan is to average for the week at the figure MFP gave me. But still, that figure is just an estimate so I’m not that strict with matching it so long as I’m getting the results I want.
  • I was diagnosed with IBS a few years back and ever since then can't eat much raw veg w/o it giving me painful bloating. Even cooked veg was off the table for me for a long time, but I've slowly worked back up to being able to handle large amounts of that again. What might help you is taking Beano when you eat veg. It…
  • I dislike that stuffed feeling too. As you said, it happens sometimes and will probably continue to happen occasionally. We're not always accurate judges of how much we can handle eating in one sitting. The times when my eyes have been bigger than my stomach, I've found that your original suggestion (a walk and some…
  • You mention slyly bringing up stuff hidden in your bag...Which is why I very much agree with the poster Topops who mentioned working on accountability. Nothing is ever really hidden. It's like that novel "The Picture of Dorian Gray." His face may have stayed handsome, but his picture rotted to match his actions. It doesn't…
  • Hmm, does anyone know if fiber impacts the calorie count? There's that carb counting technique where people subtract fiber grams from total carbs to get net carbs. Does that mean those fiber/carb grams can be subtracted from the calorie count since fiber isn't absorbed? (Or does the calorie count already take that…
  • First off, congrats on your loss! Regarding the above, did you compensate for the loss of the protein shake at lunch by adding its protein grams on top of your lunch meal? If not, it's most likely the loss of that additional protein at lunch time. It could be the weight loss itself triggering more hunger hormones, but I'd…
  • I want to exercise in the morning but, like some others here, that's when I do best with tackling cognitive work. I also feel weak in the mornings. A few years ago, I did manage to form the habit of exercising right after waking up. I was so weak though that my workouts were poor quality. I quit that after a few months.…
  • @Annie - Those both look so good! Thanks for posting. I'll definitely make those soon.
  • I'd go with the protein they're offering that I like best, the fresh produce that looks best, and if they have excellent baked goods I'd split one with my companion most days.
  • Interesting info @corinasue1143 , thank you.
  • For some, it could do with wanting to avoid water weight, which can make a noticeable difference when you're small. The water weight can make it appear like bread is making them "fat" and that going w/o it keeps them lean.
