I enter in all of the ingredients as a recipe, then weigh it all in grams, and enter that # as the number of servings. So if it all weighed 800 g, for example, I'd put in the entry 800 servings. Then later when I take a poriton, I weigh it in grams and enter the weight as the number of servings I took. I started doing this…

I wear only my hopes and dreams.

I find it easiest to keep track of my calories when I cook meals like that too. I usually eat a bigger portion of protein though (around 5-6 oz) and then about 100-200 calories worth of veg + fat. Marinades and spices keep this method fresh and yum, OP. Most varieties of fish are low in calories, so make a low cal meal…

Ha, I love that!

I'm prone to fainting, and I get those awful symptoms if I try to workout in the morning. Every now and then, I get some delusional hope and think maybe it won't happen this time. It does. So mornings just aren't an option for me. I don't mind that reality too much because I really like exercising right after my work or hw…

@lizery - Ah, I think most likely I had a UTI. It's satisfying having this explained. @CafeRacer808 - At the time I wasn't. Now I take an iron pill. My blood test also had elevated white blood cells, so the UTI explanation makes a lot of sense.

Hmm, it wasn't accurate for me and I wasn't on any medications. It's very possible I don't qualify as a healthy person though. :D

I've always gone by the color of my pee. Figured that was best. Then last year, I had blood work done and my doctor said it indicated I was dehydrated. I was confused because my urine was the same color it had always been, the light shades indicating hydration. A 2 on the scale. And yet I was dehydrated. :/ If I can't…

In the math of weight loss, sugar and fat etc don't matter. All that matters is the calories. I say "in the math" because those other things can matter indirectly. Sugar might increase your appetite, for example, making it harder for you to eat within your calorie limit. On the other hand, it might not. Every individual…

No, I've not done that. I think I haven't done that because for most of my life, I've eaten intuitively and that's resulted in me being a healthy weight. So that's let me know that the foods themselves weren't "bad" for a healthy weight, and that even the numbe of calories that I ate of them was usually fine. (My problem…

:D This cracked me up because my parents were anti-frozen too. I feel almost rebellious buying frozen veggies, especially if they have a sauce. :D I prefer fresh, but I like some frozen veggies quite a bit.

That sounds really good! Two of my favorite foods.

I'm not sure yet, but it'll probably end up being my take on pasta bolognese. Calories will be around 450 for that dish. I might have some homemade veg soup too.

For most of my life, I ate about 10 servings a day. I grew up eating large portions of veg and continued that as an adult. A few years ago, I had to cut the amount of produce I eat due to IBS. Maybe someday my body will get back to being able to eat that much, but for now it's just not doable for me. I long to eat that…

I find appetite--the feeling of being hungry--really interesting. I'd like to learn more about it. I don't think appetite is necessarily coordinated with weight maintenance. If it were, you'd expect us to always feel more hungry when losing weight (or in danger of losing weight) and less hungry while gaining. I personally…

Yeah, as others have explained, WL comes down to a calorie deficit. Think of your starting point as your baseline. Whatever you're doing now in terms of CI (how much you eat) and CO (how much you burn thorugh activity) results in you weighing 120 pounds. Each pound = 3500 calories. So if your goal is to lose 15 pounds, you…

You absolutely don't need the gym to lose weight. All that matters is a calorie deficit -- taking in fewer calories than you burn. CI < CO. (And yes, that calorie figure MFP gave you has your deficit built into it. You don't need to eat below it.) Some people speed up the rate of loss by working both ends of that formula.…
-
Yes. When I was active, I lost weight very quickly at that calorie level. How much you'll lose at a certain calorie level depends on how much of a deficit that is for you. Do you have a rough idea of how many calories you're consuming to create your weight at your current activity level? See, for me, I was probably eating…

I go this route too, and it's so helpful!

I'm 4'11. A few years ago, I was 109 lbs. I was curious to drop a few pounds. I cut my daily calories to the 1400s and also added in a Beachbody workout routine. I didn't eat my exercise calories back. In about 6/7 weeks, I lost about 8 pounds. That was an aggressive rate, since I was already thin at my starting point. The…

Back when I was a teenager, my friends and I would bring in anything - pizza, Chinese, whatever. It was a small theater and the staff were friends of ours, so they allowed anything. I broke the movie watching/snacking habit during a college film class. Now it feels more natural for me not to eat while at the movies. Most…

I love avocados. 12 years ago, I went through a phase that lasted about a year where I ate one every single day. There aren't many foods I would even want to do that with, but avocados are so delicious to me. I like the idea of using soy sauce. I don't think I've done that yet. I think that would make a tasty way to enjoy…

It varies. I have maybe a dozen go to's. I tend to be into one more than the others for a few weeks at a time. Probably the only constant is my drink, either coffee or tea. Today I had beef & black beans prepared with taco seasoning, placed in a wrap with a little sour cream and some fresh cilantro.

I'm working up to a goal of burning 100-200 calories every single day through deliberate exercise. My numbers are so pitiful. :D I'm recovering from anemia. It's taken my hemoglobin and iron levels a long time to raise. They're still not "normal" but they're good enough that I'm capable of light activity. My long term goal…

A suppressed appetite could be due to a variety of things. If it is in fact due to the food you're eating, you need to overhaul what you're eating. A burger isn't unhealthy btw, even a 900 cal one. A day with that along with fruit/veg, your preferred starches (if any), and some leaner proteins (to comp for the saturated…

I can only imagine how tedious it must be repeatedly encountering that level of ignorance! They're clearly wrong that they don't need to keep their CI at whichever point results in weight loss with their CO. That's a given. And for people who are consuming a very large number of calories, they'll have to reduce that. No…

Hi Feefee - You could just go straight to following what MFP prescribes for you. So that would mean getting as accurate a reading as you can on how many calories you burn during HIIT, entering them into your diary on those days, and eating 1360 + calories burned. Since it's hard to get a totally accurate reading on how…

Well you've been around these here parts far longer than I have, and I trust your take on what you witness. But to me, those comments indicate a lack of grasping CICO, so education needed on the concept. But I wouldn't want to teach those people that exercise/CO doesn't have a big impact on weight or that it's just for…
-
Oh no, sorry, I probably wasn't clear. I don't mean create a bigger deficit, just create one at all. For ex, if MFP says to lose 0.5lb/week a woman needs to eat 1500 calories a day, then what they're saying is she's currently averaging 1750. So that woman could keep eating 1750 and just add in 250 calories worth of…
