I've lost all my weight in my 50's. As far as I'm concerned age isn't a factor. I agree with Ann that it's likely that something like your NEAT has decreased or your method of accounting for food intake isn't serving you as well as it used to.

After years of trying all sorts of different things, I've found this is the best diet out there! https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10636388/free-customized-personal-weight-loss-eating-plan-not-spam-or-mlm/p1

I ate nearly 600 calories in fruit and vegetables yesterday. I have a feeling that made a big difference and was worth logging.

I can't edit my posts right now, but that should say inherent in way of eating/beliefs about weight loss.

This is a really great point. One of the problems with obscuring the mechanics of weight loss leads to difficulties in maintaining weight loss. If you understand the underlying principles of how all this really works instead of having your head filled with buzz words, slogans, and other gobbledygook, if what you've been…

How are you assessing this 1100 calorie intake? Are you weighing your food? Verifying your data base entries?

Funny thing about that "metabolic adaptation". I've been at this for four years. I'm working on vanity weight now. I'm a 56 year old woman who is only 5'1" tall. I'm also very active. I am losing that vanity weight on an average of 1950 calories a day. I'm looking for this "metabolic damage" and just can't seem to find it.…

I've lost all my weight and kept it off using just calorie restriction, so I'm good. Thanks.

TIL that everyone else thinks lasagna has to have meat. My grandmother never made it that way, so neither do I. She always just made a pot of meatballs and some braciole on the side.
-
I eat a ridiculous amount of vegetables; a large chunk of my daily calories comes from veg intake. I lose weight as expected and I always verify which data base entries I select against what the USDA data base says.

It still amazes me how people eating zero calories periodically on a regular basis think they're somehow not reducing their overall caloric intake. Fung would make PT Barnum proud with how many people he's hoodwinked with this sales pitch.

I saw a gastro and we did a FODMAP protocol and I found my food triggers. This past year I started having symptoms again and it took me a while to zero in on a food that had previously been okay which suddenly stopped being okay, and now I have some relief. I can't imagine doing a raw protocol with nuts, because that…

Wow, those are some great results your sister had!

What KetoVampire said about Friendship. That's the brand I eat, though I do tend to luck out and mostly get drier packages.
-
The brand I buy is pretty dry so that's never even been an issue for me. It's one of the reasons I like it.

I see your reason for this, and since you don't have high blood pressure and are only doing the diet as an experiment, this makes sense for you. However... If someone were to do DASH for high blood pressure, I think it's important to remember that the main function of the recommended servings of whole grains in the diet is…

Something interesting to note. I eat the same way now (pretty much healthy-foods vegetarian) that I ate before losing weight. Except now I have better focus, more energy, and my moods are stable. I still struggle with anxiety, but that's been a life-long issue. It's certainly managed better than it used to be. You know…

Oh, not only that, but there's the long-winded narrative about the "journey" behind the creation of the recipe. I am very thankful for blogs that include a "jump to recipe" button at the top of the page.

It's hard to know without knowing your stats and the intensity/speed of your steps and some other variables. The only solution is to eat back at least a portion of your adjustment, track results vs. what you would have expected, and go from there. I made the mistake of thinking my Fitbit was giving me too many calories for…

There's a structured list of exercises in this article using gym machines. For optimal fitness, continue with your cardio and add strength training to your gym routine. Most machines have instructions on how to use them ON the machine. Most gyms have staff who should be able to give you at least a rudimentary introductory…

Fat doesn't satiate me either. When I did keto, I was eating at maintenance (close to it), so I wouldn't quite say I was ravenous. But I certainly wasn't satisfied.

Kevin was cracking me up with his "breakfast potatoes". I was hoping you'd both find Katherine's spreadsheets, especially after the previous discussions about serving sizes in this thread. They seem like they'll be an easy way to get a handle on things.

WRT to DASH/Med, I think DASH, the Mediterranean Diet, and the MIND diet are all fairly similar eating patterns. I'm not formally following any one of these, since I already pretty much eat this way. My current experiment is focused on increasing fiber and variety. Here's a DASH friendly recipe I just made that was quite…

It honestly saddens me when people come on here hopped up on the misinformation he shills because I remember what it's like to want to hear something that sounds like a magical solution to make everything easy. Fung sets up a false narrative in order to rope believers into an us vs. them mentality that sets them apart and…

Weight lifting doesn't really burn that many calories if you're looking at it to impact weight loss in that regard. Your weight loss efforts should really be focused on creating a calorie deficit through accurate tracking of your food intake. In terms of what strength training is supposed to do? Heavier, progressive…

Same. My contribution to the ongoing bacon grease conversation is that my mother always kept it in a coffee can in the refrigerator. She also kept the butter refrigerated. By preference. Because she liked eating it as cold slabs on top of everything. My grandmother kept butter out.

I find mine to be pretty much spot on. But it's important to remember that fitness trackers are based on averages, and some people fall outside of norms. The only way to know if it's accurate for you is to track results vs. what you'd have expected from the data the tracker gave you, and then adjust from there. It's pretty…

For me, it's butternut squash and black beans. All day long. Same vibe, I think.
-
Not really. I just wing making taco flavored lentils, then spoon them over corn chips and melt cheese on them.
-
We do lentil nachos sometimes. I find it hard to limit myself with them, so they're a rare thing.
