Why is it a problem to be offered things in the first place? I'm not following how this is a problem.
-
That's exactly the sort of "other things" I was referring to.

Eating as a GF vegetarian isn't easy. Not easy at all. Cross contamination in other people's homes even on supposedly safe vegetable sides has gotten me one time too many. I don't really trust anything.
-
I'm sorry, but I simply must point out that butchering your own pasture fed beef and wild game as a diet is inconsistent with statements you made earlier in this very thread regarding your diet. You talked about a diet of cheap supermarket beef then. Look, I personally don't care how you eat, but it seems that trying to…

Which, I will reiterate, was a somewhat asked for comment due to it being announced that he doesn't eat plants. It's the same as vegans announcing they don't eat meat. There's no need to any announcements about personal dietary choices unless life-threatening food allergies are involved.

^This. When I'm offered meat, I simply say "no thank you", I don't add that I'm a vegetarian, because that's the remark that invites a discussion. Announcing that one doesn't eat plants is opening oneself up for comments. Just quietly going about eating meat and tactfully saying "no thank you" doesn't.

Back in grandma's day, a lot of other things were used for that too. :::shudder::: Definitely wouldn't eat that stuff for sure!

I think of celery as adding flavor to broths in soups and stews or for adding volume and crunch to higher calorie foods, or, as you said, a vehicle for something else like peanut butter, cream cheese, dip, or hummus. I don't understand wanting to juice it. This is the second celery juice post. Is that Goop guy getting more…

I can't imagine those two tastes together, let alone juicing them. I was a raw vegan for a while (not the Freelee type) and enjoyed all manner of smoothies of the type that combined veggies and fruit. I was a fan of keeping all that fiber, you know? I can't imagine ever once thinking to have added celery to one of the…

While I think the European stance on GMO's is silly, I think the US keeping these additives in food is possibly a question that might come down to following the money. That's what my gut is telling me. They don't need to be there, you know? I'm sure there are safe alternatives. ETA: I'm saying this off the cuff, with no…

Hmmm... I think the disconnect here is that in general usage, "plant based" is usually whole plant foods like grains, beans, vegetables, legumes, fruit. It may or may not include meat, eggs, and/or dairy. It encompasses a couple of different eating styles. It seems to me that you're defining "plant based" as "anything that…
-
Plant-based is not ambiguous, unless you misinterpret it. It is *not* food made from plants. It is whole plant foods. It's also no more moralistic than carnivore is. It's simply descriptive of foods that comprise a way of eating.

I tried it for six weeks in hope of getting some relief for my migraines. It was a dismal failure in every way possible. For me. Others have different experience with it, and that's great. Ultimately, I think any person who sticks with weight loss/maintenance over the long haul ends up creating their own customized eating…

One of my favorite easy to prep meals is roasted butternut squash topped with cottage cheese with some sriracha on top. Pure comfort food.

You have had a much larger loss than a lot of us. That's a huge game changer in this whole discussion. I struggle with this also, because my loose skin (after a 90-95 pound loss) isn't all the crepe-papery kind either, but I've noticed something over the years of seeing these threads, and that's that after a certain age,…

I would probably go with a USDA data base entry and figure I was close enough to it. https://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/foods/show/06174?fgcd=&manu=&format=&count=&max=25&offset=&sort=default&order=asc&qlookup=Soup%2C+stock%2C+fish%2C+home-prepared&ds=&qt=&qp=&qa=&qn=&q=&ing=

There's lots of soluble fiber in beans, oats, peas, potatoes, brussels sprouts, avocado, citrus fruits, apples, and strawberries...

Yes, and happily so to the bolded. I think they're all caloric bargains for how filling they are. Also, cottage cheese.

I don't drink coffee, but if you like flavor in your hot drinks, I'll will add to the voices recommending Jordan's skinny syrups. You can find them in places like Burlington and TJ Maxx or just order them from Amazon.

I always overloaded mine with pecans, and subbed maple syrup (the darker stuff) for corn syrup. Tasty stuff.

You really get me. Consider yourself hugged for this.

I agree that you look better/firmer, but I also see muscular growth in your calves/quads. I'm not surprised by this considering your impressive training and athletic accomplishments. Congratulations!
-
95 pounds is barely within normal range and just shy of being clinically underweight. I don't think that's a healthy goal. Why not stay above 100 pounds for a while and see what weight training does for you? It really does make you smaller at a higher weight over time.
-
Slow your roll. Because yes, weight loss is slow, especially vanity pounds. I'm 5'1", so I feel you. You don't need to lose 10 pounds, at most maybe 3. It makes a huge difference when you're as short as we are. The real thing you need to do is strength train. I know you don't want to hear this, but it makes a big…

For the purpose of the discussion, I think that compromise is great. In practice? Eh, I have issues pricing staple foods out of reach for certain income levels. It's a real conundrum. Then again, bringing this back to the topic of the thread, I don't see people with lower incomes ever willingly choosing to be carnivores…

Please realize that you will still need to account for calories, no matter what plan you're doing. I know someone who did it and she didn't lose anything because she was still eating too much food.

I do tend to wonder how many people doing keto were vegetable fiends like some of us before undertaking it. And this isn't a jab at them, it's just thinking out loud. I know I eat a ridiculous amount of vegetables and fruits in a day. Most of the veggies I eat aren't even necessarily ones that aren't allowed on keto. My…

The only instance where I think timing matters is if you take thyroid medication. You shouldn't take a multivitamin containing iron, calcium, or magnesium with thyroid medication. I take my multi at night to avoid this.

It's one thing to do that, it's another to be ignorant to the impact of what you're doing. I eat dairy, but I'm aware of the environmental impact that choice has. Because of that, I've cut my consumption of it. Same for eggs. I'm not saying that everyone has to make these same choices. What I can't see is how anyone can…

Deforestation happens to farm cattle and to plant crops meant to feed them. In fact, most of the deforestation of the Brazilian Amazon is due to cattle farming. https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2015/05/brazil-cattle-industry-begins-help-fight-deforestation
