Why keep those things to a "minimum"? They are important, since fat aids in the absorption of certain micronutrients in vegetables. I agree not to go crazy with them because they're calorie dense, but people should also meet a minimal daily intake of them for optimal hormonal health. IIRC, that's at least .35-.45 g per…

No problem at all. I've been at this a while, so my habits are pretty dialed in.

I wouldn't call them a super food since I don't think there are any such things, but I think they're super delicious. I find starch in a mixed meal (with protein, non-starchy veg or fruit and some fat) to be a very filling thing, and it's essential for me in terms of dietary compliance. For that reason alone, potatoes…

There are all sorts of energy/protein bars out there that fit those descriptions. Even if you're gf due to having celiac disease like I am, there are quite a few choices.

I have fibro and two forms of arthritis and started where you're at now. The key was starting very slow, and progressing very incrementally. This was, of course, after talking my doctor, and she recommended exercise for battling both the pain and fatigue. She was right! Just keep it slow so as to not over-tax yourself. I…

There used to be another poster who frequented these boards who had a similar response to keto. I doubt it was from sugar "withdrawal", though. Saying that, depression increasing on keto has been known to happen. Not everyone responds well to keto.

Do whichever work out you actually like and will stick to.

I think, in my personal experience with depression and anxiety, anything relating to self care helps with treating depression. This includes a healthy diet, exercise, good hygiene, good sleep hygiene, keeping an organized home, pursuing interests to keep yourself engaged, etc.

Sugar free pancake syrup and sugar free jellies are so few calories that I've never bothered trying the Walden Farms versions. I wasn't particularly interested in any other products.

I'm menopausal and don't deal with menstrual weight issues, but the scale does fluctuate wildly for me depending on sodium, carbohydrate intake, amount of sleep, and things like DOMS. It is dispiriting to see the scale fluctuate, and I went through a very long period of it messing with my head. I started a spread sheet…

I agree with this, and I have a crazy high step count. But I genuinely *like* walking. Going back to when I was a kid, a brisk walk was a way for me to deal with stress and anxiety. I start every day with a power walk, it's my main form of exercise. I also do a lot more less brisk walking throughout the day to burn off…

Fat has the lowest thermic effect, meaning that it's the "most digested". Carbs are next, then protein. To properly understand what you're talking about, it helps to look at it the right way. The calories not "absorbed" are already accounted for in the Atwater caloric values. The calories that are used in the process of…

Oh, those too. They're EBIL! It's that creamy texture.

The opposite of keto isn't "processed carbs". It's a balanced diet. Keto's a certain macro balance. There are other macro balances. You can eat processed foods on keto and have a less than stellar diet with its macro mix just as you can on any other. Equating purity of food quality with a macro mix is a silly argument that…

I did keto for six weeks, have a condition similar to RA (psoriatic arthritis), also researched keto flu and took steps to prevent it, and I had the same experience. Additionally, I wasn't doing keto to lose weight, I was hoping to have some relief from migraines, which even with a very good medication protocol, are…

I had been maintaining going in to the holidays and I'm ready to be back to trying to lose again. Weight is where it was before the holidays, but I didn't do overmuch (eating-wise) except on Christmas day and another day or two here or there.

I do have a trigger food that's in the category you list: roasted chickpeas. I completely lack self control with them. They don't have to have lots of fat with them, so it wasn't about that either. In fact, my favorite brand was very low fat. It's the salt and crunch factor. I have to be careful when I have chickpeas in…

Oy. From one extreme to the other. And I say this as a vegetarian who eats a lot of plant-based meals. There is as much nonsense in this video as anything from Jason Fung.

I focus on calories, protein (it's satiating for me) and fat (it can tend to be too low for me), and nutrition. I try to get as much variety in my diet as possible, even though I tend to have some favorites that I eat almost daily (frozen raspberries in my oatmeal, I just can't quit you). I focus on variety because I know…

Everything I've seen on fiber stresses beans, whole grains, AND fruits and veggies. It can be tricky to hit a high fiber goal if you have a low calorie allowance, I'll give you that.

Do you have an activity tracker synced with MFP? Do you have yourself set as active in your settings? That looks like a negative calorie adjustment which is what happens when you are less active than what your selected activity setting expects you to be.

I'm an ovo/lacto vegetarian, but do eat vegan meals. I have some dietary restrictions which limit my options, but by far my favorite vegan foods are on the affordable side. Beans, lentils, gluten-free oats, rice, potatoes, fresh or frozen vegetables, fruit. I've been cooking for a few years now for a family with two…

Lemur covered everything well, but just an aside... eyes can change color with aging. This trait is genetic, and happens in about 10-15% of Caucasians. I was born with brown eyes, and they lightened to hazel at puberty. It happened to my daughter too. Hers were deep brown, and now they're more golden brown. It's definitely…

Important note I want you to remember. You have been stressing your body. Your hormones are out of whack. There will be a long adjustment period. DO NOT PANIC. Do something to distract yourself while you collect at least six weeks (or more) of data. Your hormones need to normalize before you get a real picture of what that…

It's usually best to use the entry for raw foods and measure stuff before you cook it since the weight after cooking can vary depending on how much water has escaped during cooking.

When I drink it I log it just because I feel silly seeing just the tiny amount of milk sitting there in my diary, but that's a weird "me" thing. There are other minimal calorie things I don't log like sugar free gum, and it hasn't made much of a difference, if any.

Yes. This. This is why I came into this thread, just to say this. I'm not overly fond of parsnips either and won't go out of my way to eat them, but I can tolerate them. The funny thing here is that my husband is not fond of most vegetables and really only prefers salad to get his micronutrients. You know what he likes in…

I like big amounts of vegetables I cannot lie All you other veggie eaters cannot deny That when plate sits there with broccoli, tomatoes, Zucchini, squash, brussels, kale, and potatoes. You get excited, you want to pull up to the table And eat as much as you're able.
