  • Just a guess, but referencing a different plan that I use, they have speed work for a 1600 meter interval slightly faster than my target 5K pace. (i.e. my 5K pace target is 7:23, and reference speed work for that ~1M is 7:10).
  • Lower than normal month with my 1st planned 26.2 this Sunday...then taking a week off and rest of the month beginning a slow reverse taper/build-up, etc. for balance of May. Will target a guess of 84 miles which is 50% of my 168 monthly goal avg for the year to hit 2018 miles in total. (Ytd - 758 or thru April 189.5/mth)
  • Final April running update Week 1: 35.4 Week 2: 50.5 Week 3: 44.3 Week 4: 31.8 Total to Date:162 Just a few miles short of monthly goal 168 avg, for the year however have 751 ytd. Big race next Sunday. What’s another 26.2? Looking forward to it !
  • @zerlinna87 - I purchased fenix 5hr but I paid 50%+ less than new by buying used. I found the look and style I wanted and then searched eBay, Craigslist, Offerup, etc. I know buying tech online can be scary for some but it is feasible to get a good deal.
  • Perhaps you read a different McMillan article about his training plans. The article had peaking/tapering suggestions specific to ANYONE’s training plan. 2 biggest suggestions as follows: 1. Secret: Don’t change your weekly running routine Our bodies and minds like routine. If you run four days per week, then run four days…
  • Peak...don’t taper! ;) Agree with @MobyCarp that less is more but I also like the advise in this article on the subtle differences https://www.mcmillanrunning.com/dont-taper-peak/ Also, if you feel like running go out and run 3.7 for Matt. London Marathon tragedy where Matt collapsed at mile marker 22.5. You will feel…
  • um that would be a no :D For now, I'm going with the photo I posted on my trail race https://www.strava.com/activities/1522640369 taking the slogan from the most interesting man in the world commercials...."I don't always run Trail Races, but when I do it's Earth Day". So Earth Day 2019 is a possible option, but only after…
  • FYI- Chicago recently updated qualifying times for 2018. I'm 52 and would need a less than 3:40 to get in assuming they keep the same marks for 2019). For a guy that can run Boston, you can now run Chicago in 2019. Age Group Men’s Women’s 16-29 3:10 3:40 30-39 3:15 3:45 40-49 3:25 3:55 50-59 3:40 4:15 60-69 4:00 4:55 70-79…
  • Thanks @katharmonic Congrats on your race and PR!!
  • Ha! I will have you know I was vaccinated today with a nice and easy run of 11 miles on paved roads around lakes, golf course, suburban homes, parks, etc.
  • April running update Week 1: 35.4 Week 2: 50.5 Week 3: 44.3 Total to Date:130.2 Did my first ever trail race this weekend for 15 Miles. Wow. Very fun, but clearly different from traditional road races. I went into the event not knowing the course or really what to expect. I initially thought I might be able to try and run…
  • April running update Week 1: 35.4 Week 2: 50.5 Total to Date: 85.9 This past week I completed my last 20 mile run during my marathon training cycle and quickly approaching running my first race in 3 weeks. Congrats to ALL that ran races this past weekend - some incredible results, PR’s and stories of your race. Well done!
  • @7lenny7 bib is 634 on 50 Miles.
  • April running update Week 1: 35.4 Took a few days off from April 1-4 to let left foot with PF rest a bit and also use as a midweek taper for HM this sat. Re the race. Was the Chitown HM running the lakeshore of Lake Michigan. Sunny day, however was a cold 22 with up to 10mph winds making it feel like 14 or so. Arrived…
  • April will likely be a lower month than my monthly target of 168 Miles...main goal is to stay fit and be able to run Marathon on 5/6. That said, have a HM this upcoming Sat, a 15 mile test pacing trail race a coupe weeks after that and then tapering near the end of the month all while trying to balance training with…
  • March Final Running Update Week 1: 12 Week 2: 53.7 Week 3: 40.9 Week 4: 45.0 Week 5: 47.6 total: 199.2 I should have planned better and ran an extra .8 earlier this week to get 200 even steven. Not going to try today as I Did 22 and my left foot with plantar issues is barking at me. Oh well. Was a good month overall...5…
  • Congrats again on the fantastic race! I like your Boston goal - however, do keep in mind that the race is so very competitive that you likely need to target a 3:26 or faster to realistically get in as the cut off was over 3 minutes for Apr 2018. That said, if you can get to 3:30, what is an extra four minutes  That…
  • March Running Update Week 1: 12 Week 2: 53.7 Week 3: 40.9 Week 4: 45.0 total: 151.6 Similar week as last week - travel, travel delays (again) and dealing with left foot plantar issue. 6 weeks till big day. Someone posted a video on my strava account which is a great video on commitment. I like a couple of lines and one…
  • I am no expert in any of this, but I agree it doesn't seem like you could do anything to your cadence as it is already at a consistent rate regardless of your speed. If I do simple math, your race pace total per mile is ~1435 steps (7x205) vs an easy pace ~1773 (9x197) so your normal running stride is ~3 feet on an easy…
  • I hear that is a great marathon. I tried the lottery for Chicago and did not get in and was debating if I did - would I make it my first or second depending on winter training. My vote is - Yes. If you get in it is destiny. If no, then determine if there is an alternative race that might work. For me I wanted a well…
  • March Running Update Week 1: 12 Week 2: 53.7 Week 3: 40.9 total: 106.6 Lighter week due to work, travel, travel delays, and extra rest. Seems I have a case of Plantar Fasci-fu-itus (spelling error on purpose) in my left foot since last weekends runs. Minimized workouts to easy runs and using athletic tape, different lace…
  • agree with this. OR If a change of clothing not feasible, the only other thought I have is make your day about running 20 miles as part of your marathon training. i.e. Run your HM - say that takes you 1:50, (13.1) take a restroom break/water/fuel....and then quickly get out again for another 50 minutes or so (i.e. 5 Miles)…
  • thanks - agree a very personal decision and there are so many different options. Appreciate the mini-reviews from all and will have to work my way to some stores to determine what will work the best.
  • Awesome. Thanks for the details and link.
  • Thanks for your recommendation as well as @PastorVincent comments and it will be something to consider. Will be sure to give it a look.
  • @garygse I know a ways back you were looking at hydration packs? Curious did you buy something and if you did your pick and current review of the product. Thanks.
  • March Running Update Week 1: 12 Week 2: 53.7 total: 65.7 Aspiring to hit a minimum of 168 as I continue my quest to run a marathon Thanks @7lenny7 for the link on the Strava data tool (can’t remember name now), but when on the computer it is interesting to see and review the progression of my runs overtime and see the…
  • March Running Update Week 1: 12 Aspiring to hit a minimum of 168 as I continue my quest to run a marathon Planned cutback week perfectly aligned to my 4 day ski trip in CO. These 12 Miles (over 2 days) were some of the toughest I have run to date with an altitude of nearly 9,000 feet after skiing a full day each time. My…
