Climbing, climbing, climbing, Keep them doggies climbing... This is an image that is reminiscent of my funnest day this summer. You can kind of see where that slender piece of black top starts in center background. That place is at 12,800 feet. Now this ain't Mt Everest but there still ain't a satisfying amount of oxygen…

@MiamiSeoul Oh yeah! I forgot to make any mention of bottom conditioning. I might be reestablishing my gym membership if it gets any colder. Funny thing about last winter though was that I used to ride my bike to spin class. So it ain't like I can't ride when it is cold. Thing of it is though, spin will always get me much…

Heart rate exercise -- In my mind this is kind of important. I don't consider myself to be exercising unless I get elevated heart rate. The amount that my HR elevates scales to my exercise calories. My favorite heart rate monitor is Sportline's 660. I don't know if they are still in production. When you initialize you put…

Here I sit looking out the window wondering if this rain is going to turn into too much rain. Yesterday I just went around the block a few times. Luckily that block has some climb to it so if I go around it 15 times or so I get 1,000 feet of climb. Nov 3 12 miles - climb 1,000 feet My Nov stats 30.1mi 4h 3m 3,270ft 30…

@Shutterbuggg I eat most of my exercise calories which is why I am kind of finicky about calculating them. Well, most, maybe I should say 2/3.

1)yes 2)yes 3)yes For exercise this morning I didn't feel like driving out to my usual climbing track. So instead I did an around the block thing near my house. The block is on a slope so it gives me a hill of approx 62 feet. But if I climb that 14.5 times I get roughly 900 feet of climbing. Then I rode my bike to my…

1) yes 2) yes 3) yes Exercise was light duty today. Uncooperative weather for tomorrow. Garmin gave me more credit than it should have. Maybe that compensates for shortchanging yesterday.

Today (Nov 1) I climbed 2,000 feet. I think my Garmin short changes me on calories though. Garmin says approx 700. I usually give myself 10 cal per minute for regular climbing. That would be more like 1,000 cals. But if I am in HR zone 4 or 5 I allocate 13. But no way can I climb in those zones for the duration of a 2,000…

I was going to put my NSV for last month. But last month is old news as of today. But In October I climbed 30,000 feet. I got the Strava challenge badge for that. Today I climbed 2,000 feet. I think my Garmin short changes me on calories though. Garmin says approx 700. I usually give myself 10 cal per minute for regular…

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? [yes] Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? [yes] Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? [yes]

Got my merit badge for climbing 9000 meters.

Heh, heh, heh, Got 1,997feet of climb this morning. PR'd a segment. I keep thinking I am going to run out of room to PR. I mean it is easy to PR when you first establish record keeping but you can't just keep going faster and faster. So I gets to my starting point at the crack of dawn as usual. I like to be the first one…

I think if I had a 7 pound fluctuation over like a day I would be suspicious of the scale. I have a digital scale that gives me that. When I go to my analog spring scale I get better consistency. The other possibility... I used to have a lot of intestinal volume. I think that was because I had really weak "core" or…

That is Colorado between Durango and Silverton. I think US 550. They have a race every Memorial weekend. Memorial Saturday they close the road to automotive traffic. I love that. I will pony up the $100 to ride that car free year after year. Sometimes I even get snowed on.

Hi, Sometimes I do massive exercise. I get to eat a lot when I do that. Trouble with me is to not eat when I don't exercise. So I have to get in the habit of meticulous journaling otherwise on my down days I eat way too much. Currently my weight is at a comfortable equilibrium. But generally as weather cools my activity…

I got another 2000 foot climb in today. That puts me up to 26,100 so I have roughly 4000 to go. I got Sunday and monday to pull that off. -- but -- on Oct 4 I climbed 2000 but that was before I got my Garmin. So I don't know. I think I am going to climb 2000 on each of Sunday and monday to have it on Garmin. Strava doesn't…

Road bike tires... My city has things called goatheads. They grow on things called puncture vines. My solution was a thorn resistant tube and a tire liner like a Mr Tuffy. I can't say I never got a flat after that but I been known to go as long as a year. That configuration is not good for racing though. Makes your wheel…

I got to figure something out camera wise. I see wildlife, wildcats like cougars and bobcats that I only got seconds to respond to. They don't hang around for photographs. My camera ain't a cell phone. I push the on button and I got to wait for the nose to stick out. By the time all of that happens wildcat is gone. You…

Just got back from my morning climb. Not too bad of traffic this morning. Forest Service truck, one other truck and a motorcycle. I was first up the hill though so I got to see the wildlife. I saw about a dozen or so big ole fat wild turkeys. Man o man! If I was a hunter I would have something good on the table tonight. So…

Quintessential IronHorse pic. They close the road for this ride/race. Ain't no cars. Can't find my other pics. I think I lost them on the internet somewhere.
-
46 roundtrip then? I been known to do that kind of distance on MTB. I did the last IronHorse on a MTB. Roadies were kind of freaking out on it though. I got some ridicule from them as they went by me on the passes. Nothing but high fives at the finish line though. I became that crazy old guy that did it on a mountain bike.…

You do that road in the last pic on a road bike?

Climbing, climbing, climbing, keep them doggies climbing... I climbed 1600 ft on Sunday and I climbed 1600 ft again today ... Oh, and I PR'd a climb segment today. That segment called "the Placitas Wall." It is a little stretch of 8% grade that starts at 7000 ft. I ain't gonna tell you my speed on it. Suffice it to say a…

Quintessential climbing road ...

@narak_lol Yow! You got the 9000m climbing challenge pretty much hands down. It is kind of iffy for me this late in the game. I might be able to pull it off.
-
Man o man! That is now on my bucket list! How hard is it to get a clear day like that?
-
So ole grandpa PR'd a climb segment today. For the segment in question I was blazing along at 4.5 mph. Yow! I gotta admit that prior to that I was moving a bit slower. For a while a big ole fat black squirrel was pacing me. He would run up ahead, stop, turn and look at me. He wasn't the least bit worried that I would catch…

A little bit late in October for me to be chiming in. I just got me a new Garmin GPS watch earlier this month so I got that new toy enthusiasm going on. I always wanted to have a GPS so I could measure or substantiate my climbing. I don't do distance like I used to because I have an increasing trepidation about being out…
