  • Personally, while logging helps keep me in check generally, it doesn't always stop me from overindulging on my favourite foods. I found that for those it helps if I don't try to tell myself I'm "only going to have one", but rather, "eat one and if you're still hungry you can have another". If I start eating something…
  • +1 for keeping your phone in an inside pocket. Mine consistently dies when I forget and put it in my jacket pocket. When I have it in a sweater pocket under my jacket, it works perfectly. Yay Canadian winters!
  • I just came up with some of these for myself yesterday! After the first 20 pounds I bought myself some new clothes. When I lose another 10, it'll be a new (ahem) personal toy I've been hesitating on buying because it's a bit pricey. And if the next 10 pounds lost times up the way I think it will, I'll be registering for…
  • As far as footwear goes, I think it depends on what kind of trails you'll be doing. If you're starting out with easier trails, so long as it's an even path, I think you'll be fine with whatever walking/running shoes you've been wearing so far. You'll need hiking boots if the terrain is rocky/uneven. Before spending the…
  • This past weekend I helped a friend move on Saturday and then went x-country skiing on Sunday. After lifting and carrying heavy boxes and furniture all day I was really tempted to cancel my skiing plans. But I sucked it up, popped some advil, and put my skis on. I was a little worried that I was gonna crap out halfway…
  • Not sure if this would be available to you, but if you have access to a tea store like David's Tea or Teavana, there are quite a few teas that have a stronger/richer taste like coffee. Something with a Puerh tea base? Otherwise, yeah, decaf coffee.
  • Sending a friend request! I'm also looking for more accountability buddies!
  • I think I've read all his books! I read a lot of graphic novels and found him by reading Locke & Key. I didn't find out who his father is until I started reading his novels. Now that I know, the influence is pretty clear. Haha! Heartshaped Box and NOS4A2 are both great.
  • These are some of my favourites that I've read lately: Head Full of Ghosts - Paul Tremblay (really good ghost/possession story) The Fireman - Joe Hill (sort of post apocalyptic/horror) The Area X Trilogy - Jeff Vandermeer (sci-fi/horror) The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks - Rebecca Skloot (this is nonfiction, a…
  • If you're feeling self conscious about going in there solo, I would also recommend checking out some Youtube videos first. Try some moves at home (maybe use water bottles as dumbbells, whatever else you can find to improvise) so you can feel confident that you know what you're doing. There's a channel called Bodyfit by Amy…
  • I don't know if this advice is practical for where you live/plan to go running, but I was also self-conscious when I started so I ran at night. You have to stay alert to traffic and be safe about it. But it helped me to get started knowing that people couldn't get a good look at me.
  • Try BodyfitbyAmy. I like her weight workouts.
