  • @FeelinFooFoo , Hooray for you!!!!! 50 days is really impressive!! It’s been fun to watch your journey through your honest accounts of your ups and downs. Have a wonderful weekend and treat yourself to something special to celebrate.
  • @Beka3695, thank you for that post! It explains a lot. My little graphs, which I wrote about before, all show this effect--heretofore unexplained periods where my weight stays exactly the same, I mean to the tenth of a pound, for 4 days in a row or so, then jumps up by a couple of pounds, then suddenly drops 3.5 pounds or…
  • Ruby, how do you access Zumba? I’d love to be able to do Zumba at home.
  • Oh yeah, Ruby. That would be a very dangerous boundary to let slip. I can’t imagine much worse than inviting a down-on-her-luck problem drinker into your intimate space! But of course your heart goes out to her. I’m sure your kindness and willingness to listen meant a lot to her. Journaling has been a huge part of my…
  • @RubyRed427 I like Beck’s Blue. It’s a lot like the Heineken. And if anyone is a Guinness stout fan (I am), Bravus Brewing Co. makes an AF version that tastes very close to my palate. Foo Foo asked for a review of the Ritual Zero tequila. Not bad at all but really peppery. Reminiscent of a jalapeño margarita. I’ve been…
  • Tazzb75, I like the idea of posting each month. I’ll post “amount lost this month” at the beginning of the month. I’m just posting how much lost instead of my weight. That’s my comfort zone.
  • I made the “Healthy Hot Chocolate “ from Well Plated today. It’s definitely the best I’ve ever made and maybe the best I’ve ever tasted. I used one square of Lindt 70%. I’m going to try her Mexican variation with cinnamon and cayenne pepper. This will be a regular AF treat for me. It’s only 160 calories but tastes much…
  • Ruby, yes, my graph is on paper. I have to work with Excel quite a bit at work, and it's my worst enemy, so I prefer paper when I can do that! Nice to meet everyone. I'm 64 and live in central Texas. I have one married daughter and 2 amazingly precious granddaughters, ages 4 and almost 7. I have two adult sons. One was my…
  • P.S. When I said "by 5's," I didn't actually mean that. I meant by HALF lbs. (.5). So there's, say, 170, 170.5, 171, etc.
  • @JenT304, thanks for inviting us (on another forum) to drop in even if 30 lbs. by March is not our goal (My metabolism says 30 lbs. by summer is just doable). But the motivation here is great, and Ruby is wonderful at keeping a forum lively. Since July 6, when I quit drinking alcohol, I've lost 31 lbs. So 6 lbs./month…
  • @FeelinFooFoo , I think you are smart to treat sobriety as almost a full time job at first. One of the best analogies I read compared early sobriety to pregnancy, a time when a woman has no hesitation to put almost all her energies into that very important time and experience. My eating and drinking temptations came on…
  • @RubyRed427, good for you for starting the other challenge. I’ve lost a steady 6 lbs./month since I quit drinking July 6 (Hey! 5 months tomorrow I just realized). I know my metabolism won’t do 30 by March although I do have probably 40 more to lose to be where I’d like to be. So I won’t join that challenge but will lurk…
  • @stephanne13, I remember when you broke your ankle. 300 days!!??!! Awesome!!! What an inspiration you are. Yeah, when I post from my phone that “Done” button tries to trick me. Gotta remember it’s “post reply.”
  • Hooray @RubyRed427!! 3 months is huge! It is kind of crazy how the time seems to quickly add up (Although for some reason @FeelinFooFoo's days seem to go faster than mine :D ) That is something to really celebrate. I had the honor of being asked by Kate Bee to film a short video about what her class has done for me. She…
  • @RubyRed427, I agree! Since July 6 my daily journal has been a valuable resource. As you say, reading back through can give you insight and motivation. I’ve seen that 100% of the days after my strongest temptations I write about how happy I am I didn’t yield. Given that my sober journey and journal have occurred during a…
  • @FeelinFooFoo, I think AA in general tends to discourage AF substitutes. But for me, they've been a lifesaver. Not because I pretend they are alcoholic drinks, but mainly because I don't have a sweet tooth at all, so all those sweet substitute "mocktails" just don't appeal to me. I get sick of nothing but sparkly water,…
  • @FeelinFooFoo , Hooray for you!!!! Wow, your sober days are really adding up fast. I'm sure faster for us onlookers than for you! The tattoo is a great idea. I have a bracelet I bought with the date of my 100th day in Roman numerals. It's sort of my little secret symbol, and I see it every day. Today is actually day 150. I…
  • Foo Foo, being alcohol free has really reduced my anxiety a lot . . . UNTIL just recently I get hit with anxiety as I try to go to sleep. It's a bummer. But I totally attribute it to this crazy pandemic. All kinds of folks are experiencing this. I can't help but think it would be even worse with booze.
  • Yes! We did it!!! (and if you didn't, no worries . . . today is a completely new day). I'm looking forward to getting back to the work routine tomorrow, but then it's only 3 short weeks to the Christmas/winter vacation. For those of us in the U.S., I guess we're lucky to have this "practice holiday" before that one. I…
  • @JenT304, I agree! And thank you for originally moving us over to Sober Squad. @FeelinFooFoo, Great for you!!!!! Now that I'm at 145 days, I can say for sure that I was definitely in my 20s last time I went this long AF . . . and I'm 64. That's crazy. It's really fun to be moving into brave new world territory. My scale…
  • One of my favorite perks of being alcohol free is the extra energy like you said @RubyRed427. I had to drive to Austin (30 miles away) to get a crown this morning— the dental kind. I broke a tooth about a month ago but waited till I was off work. That would’ve been about my limit before. I probably would have come home and…
  • Autocorrect wanted “stargazing “. Might be another good idea.
  • @FeelinFooFoo , I’ve found a few AF beers that I think are delicious. I have yet to find an AF wine worth drinking. If you find one, please share the info. It’ll be a first AF holiday season for me and a lot of us. Strategizing is no doubt a good idea!
  • @annliz23, as far as I'm concerned, counting days is just a tool. If you like it, use it. If not, don't. So you get to choose how you count your days, and I can totally see how not starting the count over because of one small blip would be more motivating than starting over. Anyway, it's your count. You get to make the…
  • @joelann10 and all you guys, thank you for your condolences. The house seems a little empty today without Hendrix, but it was the right thing to do. "What a difference a day makes!" SO true. One of the many good things about keeping a journal is reading back through it to get insight from myself. There are many entries,…
  • @annliz23 , Hang in there! Sleep troubles were horrible when I stopped drinking. My journal entries confirm that! The good news is that after a couple of weeks my sleep became better than it ever was when drinking. It gets better. I still have bouts of insomnia but they are relatively rare. Good job with the peppermint.
  • 12:30 and we just returned from having to put our beloved best cat ever, Hendrix, to sleep. We’re so sad, especially my husband, who adored that cat to an almost absurd degree. It was a blessing that when we determined at 9 pm that we needed to get him to a vet immediately, I was sober and able to drive us to the all night…
  • @RubyRed427, that is hilarious. Hope you smiled and went right back to sleep! @joelann10, our cat Hendrix, age 15, is not eating either. We're taking him to the vet tomorrow. It is so worrying . . . especially to my husband, whom I call "Nanaw" when it comes to cats. I'll be saying a prayer for Dio when I say my prayers…
  • 30 days! WooHoo FooFoo! That’s so much fun to say.
  • Sober win: I had so much energy today. I made corn and poblano lasagna, which is my husband’s favorite. I realized that last time I made it I had to sit down because my back hurt (It’s a little labor intensive and takes a while). Today I felt like it was no big deal. Watched Food TV while I worked (standing), cleaned the…
