I'm eating the way I intend to eat for the rest of my life so not limiting myself to the same few foods. If that works for you, great - but how long will you do that for? OP, I don't get into the Friends Request thing / want to share my diary, but I'm also 53 and eating around 1300 cals a day, so this is a rough idea: My…

1tbsp oil, a couple of large onions, a red pepper, 200g cherry tomatoes (quartered) plus a 400g tin of chopped tomatoes plus 3 tbsp tomato puree, 750g lean steak mince, 2 tins of red kidney beans (drained), 15g garlic, 1 tsp chilli pepper, 1 tsp paprika, 1 tsp smoked paprika, 1 tsp cumin, 1 tsp marjoram, 1tsp cinnamon and…

I agree that plenty of people on here will freak out when they read that someone is only eating 1200 cals a day. Sometimes it's justified (those of us who are shorter and weren't / are not obese, for starters) but sometimes people think they should eat 1200 cals even if they're much taller and/or have a lot of weight to…

The 'something wrong' is that you shouldn't be aiming for under the recommended 1200 cals a day. I'm also short and older and when I started on here my maintenance figure calculated at a little under 1450. It didn't matter what rate of weight loss I entered, MFP still gave me 1200 cals a day. As such, my deficit was 250…

As many people on here will attest, it's very hard for your body to get the requisite nutrients and macros when you're only eating 1200 calories a day. Unfortunately, you may only find out what damage it causes when it's too late.

ADD. MFP is designed such that you're supposed to eat your exercise calories. The 1200 is what you'd eat if you'd not moved all day. Whilst you may not have burned 823 cals (although I have no reason to doubt it), you definitely didn't burn zero. If you don't eat your exercise cals, you're effectively eating less than 400…

I'm 5'1 and a bit and 53yo. I was losing on 1200 - took me just over two years to drop 33lb, which averages around 1.3lb a month. I now weigh 103lb and MFP thinks I maintain on 1340. I continued losing weight after I switched to maintenance so, after a bit of trial and error, I upped my cals by 100 a day. I'm still losing…

I've continued losing weight since I switched to maintenance in March. At one point, early in the summer, I set MFP to gain weight and ate at that number for a few weeks to see what happened. That pretty much stabilised things, so I've continued eating 100 cals a day more than MFP suggests is my maintenance number, but…

I'm in a vaguely similar position, but I still track my intake and exercise each day. You may be under-estimating the calorie burn from your runs. You may also be over-estimating what you're eating. Perhaps track a day, every so often, to see if you're really eating / burning what you think. I hit my goal and moved to…

I try not to. I weigh myself every Monday, log my weight and then carry on with my life. There's another post in this bit of the forum about having a target range rather than a target weight, as you will fluctuate. Most suggestions I've seen have tended towards a 10lb range (being +5 or -5 from your goal). If, over a…

Same here. 3mph is my normal speed, 3.5mph if I have a spring in my step and 4mph if I'm late or it's raining but probably only 2.5mph if I'm walking with friends. These are worked out based on walking a known distance. For my regular walks, I just use the same number of minutes each time, rather than timing myself to the…

I'm short and, at the point that I started losing weight, my maintenance was around 1450. With a recommended minimum of 1200, my deficit was never more than 250 cals to start with and, as I slowly lost weight, that deficit got smaller. It did take time, 2 years 2 months to lose 15kg (just over 33lb), which works out at a…

Can you cook in bulk at weekends or days when you are able to cook - and freeze portions to eat later? When I'm at work, I take salad most days - a big bowlful plus some protein.

As soon as I read the word 'bet' and the amount at stake I thought it was one of those gym things. OP, losing at 9lb a month is probably not going to be sustainable unless you seriously under-eat. Under-eating, over several months, can do damage to your muscles (including your heart), hair and nails and is really really…

I agree it's a tool. But when someone is picky, it's far better to eat familiar foods that you like, either in smaller portions or cooked in a different way / bulked out with lower cal veg, than to try changing your entire diet and eliminate a lot of foods in one go. That's likely to result in failure quite quickly. Some…

Congratulations on losing 10lbs - but depending on what period that has been in, be aware that you lose a lot of water weight initially. I assume you mean April 2021 which means that you're hoping to lose 35.5lb in 4 months. Almost 9lb a month. My guess is that you selected to lose 2lb a week. No wonder you used the word…

Not a competition, but I get 1340 a day (before exercise); it was 1200 whilst losing. However, I'm just over 5' tall and now only weigh 105lbs, so the low number is to be expected. Height etc matter, hence my last few questions to the OP.

Keep things simple as much as you can, at least to start with. You're more likely to stick to it if you enjoy the food and don't make it too difficult. After all, this is how you'll be eating for the rest of your life if you want to maintain your weight loss. Perhaps, once a week, make it a challenge to try a new recipe.…

What sort of tips are you after? Assuming that's the number that MFP gave you for a sensible weight loss rate, just eat that many calories per day. Don't eat less. In theory, you can eat what you like but some people find that carbs make them feel fuller for longer, others find this with protein or fat. It's trial and…

Seems we might be allowed small get-togethers, per today's announcement. @acpgee, if you order a gammon joint for delivery on 23rd as well, that should be fine. I'm sure your friends will appreciate it, regardless, and at least it removes any issue with how well-done to cook something.
-
@acpgee Do you have any available freezer space now? I've been to Lidl this evening and bought a Three Bird Roast, a Three Game Roast and an Easy Carve Stuffed Goose - but they're all frozen. You probably won't want goose twice, but one of the others might be a good option. I think the game one says it serves 4 and the…

Never heard of it but, for my height, the Reference Body Weight range looks like it's middle of Normal BMI to top end of Normal BMI. With regards to protein, once I became aware there was a suggested recommendation, I aimed at 0.8g per 1lb of target body weight as a minimum, which I must have got from posts on these…

Are there any local running groups you could join up with? Are there other roads you could run, to give your route variety?

Are your scales digital (battery operated) or old-school? If digital, when did you last change the batteries? Do you move them around the bathroom or are they always in the same spot, untouched? When you set up your MFP profile, what did you select for your daily activity level? Is your 15 mile walk a new exercise or have…

I'd also suggest a stew or soup. Chicken, potato and veg would work in both. Lamb or beef stew with diced potatoes. Can you not add chopped veg to your chicken & rice? Depending on how wide the neck of your flask is, chicken, pasta and veg in a tomato-based sauce.
-
I was also raised on meat and two veg. However, a T2 diabetes diagnosis meant I had to rethink my meals a little to reduce my carb count. It's an added bonus that the replacement veg that I now use to fill my plate have fewer cals than the potatoes / pasta / rice. I make potato wedges. A small potato looks far more on the…

I went from 150 to 105, but I'm shorter than you. It took about two years as my deficit was quite small. One thing to consider is what you plan to do long term. Once you've lost weight, then what? Are you going to be OK eating OMAD for the rest of your life? Are you going to be OK eating the same thing every day? If not,…

Allergy or intolerance? There's a big difference. Over the last 30 years (I'm now in my 50s), I've developed intolerance to multiple things, but it won't kill me if I eat them. Cutting them out for a period of at least 3 months, then gradually reintroducing them, helped determine whether I still reacted, how quickly and…

Buy a ready-roasted chicken. Use the meat for salad, evening meals or whatever. Then, use the carcass to make a chicken soup and add whatever veg you like - I add a selection from onion, carrots, celery, mushrooms, broccoli, cauliflower, courgette, tomatoes and potatoes plus a lot of water and a stock cube. Once it's…

How and where do you get "peppered with recommended foods"? Any adverts are just going to be for whatever the manufacturer / blogger has paid to have advertised. All of these foods, on their own, might well be good for your well being, IF they are part of a nutritionally balanced diet. But the manufacturer really doesn't…
