  • The minimum calories for a guy per day is 1500. If you try to get by on an intake that is lower than that, you are much more likely to fail as it is far too restrictive. You will probably end up seesawing with binge eating after every failure. You should try to correct your eating disorder and get your food intake to…
  • Yes it is! But your very own cheer squad can help keep you on track!
  • If the only sugar in your diet is coming from fruit, veg, seeds and nuts, then the sugars in those don't cause massive spikes in your blood sugar levels as the fibre in them slows down the absorption. Totally different if the sugars are in packaged/processed goods as most of these lack enough fibre to slow the absorption.
  • G'day Andy. You might need to start out with an electronic fan club until you can find local workout buddies. There's heaps of wonderful folk on here..... even if they are not going to be able to go for runs or cross country bike rides with you.
  • Make friends with a bunch of folk who you might seem to get along with and build up your own personal support network! You get to support each other when one of you is going through a wobbly patch, and it is great to have other folk there to celebrate every little win!

  • 50 is the new 30, isn't it? B) There's so much here and a heap of Shrinking Violets (and some Reducing Teds, and Minimising Marys, too!).... I'm still finding my legs in the community area too as my journey up until yesterday was a solo one.
  • Add me into your cheer squad if you like. Always ready with a good YAY (and a quick NAY if necessary!)
  • Yep, you'll need someone to hold that mirror for you @abily93
  • This place is a wealth of information! Keep sharing your journey and you're sure to develop your own cheer squad to keep you on the right track!

  • So glad to have you in my list of new pals @Smiledrinkwater ! Is there some plan with the fridge (and pantry) clean out? A clear out sounds like a good plan, except if the subsequent shopping trips gradually replenish the nasties collection.
  • Thanks @JeromeBarry1 , but I actually gave the shrinkage a head start when I broke both legs quite severely in a motorbike crash when I was 22. In the multitudes of operations that followed, I seem to leave hospital an inch shorter than each time I've gone in! But, that might be expected when there's amputations and total…
  • I think that getting the right bunch of fitness/weight loss "gear" is a challenge in itself! It's like buying a 12 month gym membership and only going for the first week. It can be darn difficult to get the right fit for you if you don't know what your options are! I read a multitude of forums for a few months, and…
  • Hiya @sbrownallison, I helped the height adjustment along a little by getting mangled in a motorbike crash when I was 22 and breaking both legs rather severely. I've since had my right foot amputated, and my left knee totally replaced. Each operation on my legs seems to have taken another inch away! (Hopefully, any further…
  • On a couple of acres near Stawell, Victoria, in the land down under
  • Looks like you are going to be too busy filling in your 2-3 times a week blurb to get any workouts happening! :# If you want another bod in your list of supporters, I'm in!
  • I'll pass on that omnipotent fella, but if I can figure out how to send you a friend request, I'll be doing that @sookiehaden!
  • If a grandpa figure in Stawell is of any use in your journey, count me in. I'm 10kgs in on my journey since September and 25kgs to go to get within my supposed BMI range. I'm also transitioning to a wholefoods vegan diet, just to add another level of difficulty to my journey.
  • Also looking to increase my "healthy competition" buddy count from 0. I know the feeling with poor eating habits and dietary choices and am transitioning to a full wholefoods vegan diet and lifestyle. I'm also dealing with a significant amount of stress, and have taken to recording lots of measurements and logging…
  • If someone at the other end of the age scale with 25kgs still to go is of any use to you, count me in. I'm transitioning to full wholefood vegan and currently on about 1800 cal/day (as I couldn't cut it on 1500 thus far). Trying hard to get the exercise up at the same time.
  • If a 182cm (6'0") grandfather figure, dropping 1/3rd of my weight from 117kg (258lbs) to 82kg (180lbs), whilst also transitioning to fully wholefood vegan is any use in your fan club, count me in! I'm decidedly uncool, substantially unfunny, like to hear other people share their reading experiences, don't mind looking at…
