How did it go for you? How are you feeling afte the 72 hours?

Thanks everyone for the comments! @Adi4Fitness If it's in Brampton I might have been - what or where is VP?

@Liadin123 would you believe, I didn't take before- and after- measurements nor did I check the scale. I weigh in once a week on Sunday morning, and the only measurement I've done is my waist, ever 2 months. This past Sunday, after 3 1/2 days of fasting (and 3 1/2 days of my normal routine) I was down 4 pounds. We'll see…

Depending on what's in the sandwiches (eg. meat and cheese?), I would either open it up and just eat the inside of the sandwich, or just eat nothing at all.

@Cadori if you enjoy broth, then that's a great option. Make up a big batch of homemade bone broth, salt it up as you like it, and it's an excellent source of not just sodium but all sorts of important minerals and micronutrients. @RalfLott I found some salt pills on Amazon - CMC Research Div. Sodium Chloride Tablets. 1…

I enjoy her writing, and I thought this article was another solid hit for her.

That sounds great @River_Goddess, congrats!

I like to use hard sausage meats, like peperoni sticks and that sort of thing. You can get ones that don't require refrigeration. Just be sure and check the labels first, as some of them do contain more carbs than you'd expect.

I think that's referred to as a 'fat fast', where you are allowed some calories as long as they come from only fat. The theory being that fat is the one macronutrient that has almost negligible effect on insulin. (Carbs of course raise insulin a lot, protein will raise it a little.) So while a fat fast does involve taking…

I just had a look on Amazon.ca and saw the price - $60 + $30 shipping!! Nope, not a chance. For like $10 I'd give it a try, but not for that kind of crazy money.

I've never seen it before, but it looks interesting. I'd be tempted to try it out myself if I came across it.

I found a new way to stretch my limits this week - I'm doing an extended fast. Currently on the 4th day, and I'm planning to see how long I will manage. So at the moment I'm not 'low carb' so much as 'no food at all'. When I do break the fast, I will of course be back on the LCHF plan. I also managed to walk every day last…

That's fantastic, @canadjineh!

It must be the week for fasting! I'm on my first extended fast, only 46 hours in but feeling good and no signs of hunger. I spent the day with my mum and we normally have lunch when I visit, so I had to tell her I was fasting to explain the lack of a meal. She was all concerned and worried, but I've done my homework, so…

I don't buy scratching but I buy bone-in skin-on pork shoulder and I do eat the skin along with the meat. Not sure if that's the same thing? I've heard it referred to as scratching, crackling, rind...

Congrats on your success so far @bluets2011! A very quick look at your diary tells me you really need to up your sodium. That might be the cause of your thirst, as @LizinLowell has suggested. 2300mg is barely enough sodium for folks eating carbs. On a low carb or keto diet, you need to be at least 3000mg, maybe even…

0.36g per pound does seem remarkably low to me too. The protein formula I know is 0.8g to 1.2g (or was it 1.8?) per pound of lean body weight. The higher level was for people who do a lot of strength training. My lean body weight (total weight minus body fat weight) is around 140 lbs, so on this formula my goal would be…

I'm bi-polar, diagnosed in the 90's (back when they called it manic-depressive) but for me it was mostly major depressive episodes followed by periods of relative normal. My last depressive episode ended in 2013. I've been eating low-carb / keto since last August. I find my mood has been mostly stable, with more 'ups' than…

Yesterday I was shopping and saw a pretty pair of leggings. This wasn't in a 'plus size' shop, they were just 'Large', like normal-person-size-large, but they were cute and cheap so I bought them. Figured someday they might fit. Tried them on this morning, to get a feel for how horribly small they were. I figured they'd be…

I try and keep to ~ 20g net carbs most of the time. I'm not super strict though, if I have 25 or 30g one day I don't sweat it. I do allow high-carb 'treat' days, which I try and limit to no more than once per month. Eg. going out for sushi with a friend, that could be a 125g carb meal in one sitting, but I'm right back on…

Lol indeed! The two things I got from re-reading this morning was that artificial sweeteners can trigger hunger responses, and the 'water enhancers' are full of chemicals which go against the 'detoxifying spirit' of a fast. Speaking just for myself alone, the 'detoxifying spirit of a fast' sounds like at least 50% woo to…

I read The Complete Guide to Fasting over the weekend, it was very interesting. I've been doing a 16:8 or 14:10 IF for quite a while now, it's sort of my default. But now I'm excited to try an extended fast, 48 or 72 hours. The only hang-up for me is they say not to use zero-cal water-flavouring (Mio, etc) and that might…

Nice! I make a batch of low-carb bbq sauce every week, it's become a 'staple' here.

This past week I've added walking back in to my excercise routine. I had to stop walking back in February due to plantar fasciitis, but I'm planning to participate in a walkathon in September and really needed to resume my 'training' for that. So I started walking on Monday, and in 7 days I've walked over 34km. I'm also…

Thank you @LizinLowell!

If you're looking for ketosis as part of a weight loss plan, exogenous ketones aren't much help there. Ketones are a byproduct of burning fat, they don't cause it. More ketones doesn't mean more fat burning, especially if those ketones are coming from outside the body.
-
@LizinLowell do you have any links or can you suggest books or something that discuss fasting and autophagy? I'm really interested in that particular aspect but I don't know where to begin. Thanks!
