This was perfect...plus numbers and equations make me happy

It just depends on the person. To the well informed, "clean" is a meaningless term. But it seems for many (especially those who bounce from diet to diet looking for results), "clean" means healthy. My assumption is that people see Panera, and think, "This is much better for me than Chik-fil-a, McDonald's, or KFC so I am…

As someone with a marketing background, this is actually great planning on their part. Is it basically meaningless nonsense? Of course it is. However, they found the buzzword of the day that will stick with a large audience. Almost have to applaud them for beating others to the punch

That Fox News article is ridiculous; it in no way refutes CICO. It simply gives reasons why adjustments would need to be made in certain circumstances; it also uses the most vague terms possible while trying to stretch the list out to 10 so that it wasn't a random number.

I can promise you that the bolded part is much more opinion than fact. I have quite a few obese members in my family, and they are neither physically restricted or suffering from a mental health issue with food. They simply do not monitor what they eat or how much. They eat out of boredom and hunger. They enjoy eating…

In this scenario, it seems like you are trying to take CICO and apply psychologically which would not really make any sense. CICO is not a theory; it is simple science. Psychologically, people do not stop eating for a variety of reasons from comfort to shame to habit. I am not sure how that in any way impacts CICO other…

I am glad that that all worked for you, but I think you are generalizing the effects of a Ketogenic diet when everyone is different. I continue to eat sugar and about 50% carbs while keeping fat to about 25%. I have steady energy all day while also staying mentally clear; I can assure you that my brain functions perfectly…

Even so, I have to agree with @MeganAM89 You would have to be eating tremendous amounts of food during your binges to put on 5 lbs of body fat. I am seconding the notion of a lot of water retention.

This is so beautiful :'(
-
Agreed. Coffee is just water passed through ground coffee beans; it has no impact on your weight loss.

I agree that the OP was very polite and dignified; however, many of the people in here have no desire to argue. Many of the people here wish to help. I think people have been very respectful of the situation of the OP in regards to the health concerns, but I believe they are trying to understand why the diet has to be so…

I have also heard and read those bears should be avoided at all costs for..."digestive health" reasons

I think the point trying to be made is that labeling foods "unhealthy" and "garbage" is very subjective. Processed foods are not inherently unhealthy and neither are fast foods for that matter. "Clean" and "unhealthy" are purely based on perspective

This also made me break out in to loud laughter in my office! Haha

Just...no

I don't think that it is the advice giving that is the problem; it is the blanket statement about fats being the problem when some people lose weight on very high fat diets. Also, meal spacing and timing have nothing to do with weight loss or "increasing metabolism".

Wondering where this number came from... Q. What is currently considered a safe amount of daily caffeine? A. For healthy adults FDA has cited 400 milligrams a day—that's about four or five cups of coffee—as an amount not generally associated with dangerous, negative effects. FDA has not set a level for children, but the…

I am thinking along those same lines. The blanket statement made was "Caffeine is garbage". And then, it changes to "moderate caffeine is fine" which I think most would agree massive amounts of anything is not a good idea.
-
I don't see how you are coming to the conclusion that "Caffeine is garbage". There have been numerous studies indicating that in moderation, it has several health benefits. http://jn.nutrition.org/content/144/6/890.abstract https://jonbarron.org/article/caffeine-health-benefits-and-health-risks…

I will have to find the citations, but I am pretty sure there are some benefits to caffeine to the point that a certain amount per day is actually recommended.

You are going to be facing a substantially difficult task that is also time consuming. Bulking typically needs a caloric surplus so you are going to put on fat as well as muscle. You could try to keep the surplus lower to avoid too much fat gain, but it is inevitable. You need a deficit to lose weight, but you can preserve…

I only have bands as well, and they are much better than doing nothing at all. I do P90X every morning as well a workout schedule with them at night. Just keep resistance high just like you would with free weights; they can definitely make a difference

There hasn't been a new thread for at least 5 minutes. A new one was bound to come up about it

No thanks. I think I prefer my teeth and esophagus; I will find a better tasting placebo
-
That is the very definition of the scientific process. Theories are tested based on hypotheses. If the tests don't support the theory, we go back and come up with new theories. That does not make the information we currently have available any less reliable. Throwing out the facts we have just because we may get a better…

I second this opinion. Don't take my cheese, yogurt, or milk. I can go through 40 oz of Greek yogurt and a gallon of milk per week just by myself. I won't even go in to the cheese..

I think I saw something similar at one point, but from my understanding, it was mainly based on spicy things being appetite suppressants as well as making one hotter and sweating. I cannot imagine this making any difference whatsoever.

I am just curious what proof you have that by humans consuming a liter means that the cow no longer has sufficient quantity to be malnourished. I have never seen any study that shows a milk produces the exact amount needed per calf thus any taken from that quantity deprives the calf. Unrelated to the post in general, but…

Thankfully, she typically listens to me about things when it comes to nutrition and exercise. I keep trying to bring her to this site to learn more, and I am constantly sending her articles and information. The only thing I can think as to why she thinks it works for appetite suppression is because the taste makes you so…

Agreed. You need some sort of energy source whether it is fat or carbs. If you have no energy or strength to weight train, but do stay in a deficit, you will certainly lose weight, but you will be losing much more muscle than you want and still probably not hit your 8% BF goal anyway
